New 2D Sonic Game Announced *UPDATE*

Hurrah for cashing in on nostalgia.

A sonic 2D game is long overdue. 3D worked for Mario and zelda, but sonic is just one of those classics that looses it`s charm in 3D.

If any more characters are introduced my sonic plushie is going in the bin, forever.

It's still going to suck.

Going back to 2D won't magically improve their terrible level design. Granted it's much harder to screw up a 2D level than a full 3D one, but knowing Sonic team they will always find ways to screw it up.

It's not going to be nearly as good as the old games. Don't get your hopes up.

What if it's 3D graphics on a 2D plane?

I have yet to see a curent side scroller that didn't have 3-D graphics. So long as they don't have 3 planes as in LBP it should be alright.

You can be pretty sure that this game will be 2.5D and will not just use sprites.

too bad if they end up changing it at the last minute to be exactly the same as the other games. Then that would be hilarious, means one less game to try out.

Good, now people will stop complain that a 2-D sonic game would be great and just say sonic sucks as a whole when this game fails as well. Somehow I doubt that this game will measure up to its nostalgic rose tinted predecessors. No matter how good the game is, it will never be as good as the sonic game you played as a kid... ever. Not only that, but games based solely on speed with nothing else are outdated and fairly shallow. I predict bad things for its future... but maybe the old gamers will be happy with it and feel a long negligence niche filled. One can only hope. Here's hopping for a new Magaman 9.

Wouldn't mind if it's 2,5D as long as it's not 3D gameplay. Finally Sega team understand that they can't best the majority of fans with their own visions for a gamecharacter. It's like Sega Team kidnapped Sonic and Tails and have constantly raped them for 16 years and now they realize that raping them isn't that fun anymore, so they gave them back to the people.
