Uh-oh.

This is a worrying trend indeed.
Why?
Free DLC you can't get if you buy a used copy.
This is a step towards no used copies at all, which is a further step towards massively expensive games that companies know we will buy regardless.
Why would you buy a game used? For the shitty $5 off and all the extra fingerprints/sticky cover?

If the game makers can guarantee there will be no second hand sales then surely game prices will go down?

I buy most of my games used. I'm a cheapskate.

That could well be the case. However, let's not forget, we may soon be entering the era of digital distribution. One company selling the games - one company's rules.

I'm a huge fan of project $10.
If it's a game I really want, I get free stuff!
If it's a game I don't want enough for day one DLC, then I don't care!

It's win-shrug!

I'm just waiting for companies to offer day one DLC that cannot be purchased unless you get it new. No releasing it later for those who didn't get it new. You either get it new and get the DLC, or no DLC for you at all.
I'm sure it'll happen...outside of collector's editions.

It isn't a good anti piracy measure on the PC (which I know this game isn't going to be on the PC, which is BS), since you can pirate DLC's with no problem. I'm sure someone will figure it out for the 360 as well though.

Yeah I have to agree about the PC thing, just imagine if they put the same DRM on consoles like they do on some PC games. You know like for example that X-title game can only be played on limited number of consoles, and if you lose the cd-key you cant play the game at all. Besides free DLC for buying a game new is an incentive and a reward for gamers who buy at retail and doesnt really hurt used game buyers. If you want all the cool extra shit that doesnt affect the core of the game an extra five or ten bucks for a game you love is not a big deal, which is funny since that is normally the cost difference for a new and a used game at gamestop.

You guys shouldnt complain too loudly since us PC gamers dont have a used store for us outside of ebay. Honestly it is sometimes easier to just pirate a game than to try finding it used somewhere, ESPECIALLY with more and more games being passed through Steam, which I love btw lol. As someone who plays a lot of pirated games, I actually like things like project ten dollar in concept. It rewards those who buy the game new and if I really like it I can buy the DLC for my pirated game and give them some cash directly into their pocket as opposed to some bloke on ebay or something. And I already reserved my copy of Alan Wake so this is like happy bonus/reward for me that i didnt expect or ask for so point to Microsoft :)

"...will give a code to unlock free content..."

How is it free if you pay for it? Damn game specials. They're tricksy is what they is.

Stll haven't forgiven this game for cancelling the PC version meaning that as a console... celibate I won't get to play it. Should be good though.

No it's not. There is still going to be a market for used games. Retailers are just going to have to start charging a reasonable price for them. Not five dollars cheaper like Gamestop does. Seriously I went into a Gamestop at the mall to see how much they were selling used copies of Dragon Age for the 360 for. $54.99 There was a whole stack of like six of them on the shelf. "Really Gamestop?" GameCrazy however was selling them for $45 and there was only like two left.

It's supply and demand. The price of the used games with the premium content will go down eventually. It has to if used game retailers want to continue to make money off of trade ins. You the consumer are just going to have to be smarter and shop at retailers that charge reasonable prices.

Wow, pretentious much? Ever think that maybe if your skills were worth more than minimum wage you wouldn't be making it? Get a real job and stop with the entitlement mentality.

nope, it's not worrying at all

where i am, if you wait like 1-2months the game is usually half price
This here; so far this year I've picked up Darksiders, Risen, Dante's Inferno, Bioshock and others for $40...all $20 cheaper than a couple months ago. I snagged Saboteur for $20 new (and that came out in December) as well as Prototype a few months back.

This system only penalizes people who buy it in the first few weeks or who buy used. I'll start worrying when they start limiting DLC to people who buy the game in the first few weeks...

...uh oh....!

Surely it would just be better to legislate that a set amount from each re-sale of a used game goes to the publishers?

Right, because a minimum wage job isn't a real job. God forbid there's ever a shortage of jobs or, heaven forbid, even a recession, which means young types like myself have to work in restaraunts for a living, rather than offices with shag carpeting.

You stop with the elitism, and I'll stop with the entitlement. How's that?
As a young person who was on near minimum wage before I quit, (although in britain so clearly a marked improvement) I found that I had easily enough money to set aside for games, and point towards the seventy odd titles I have on steam.
I just wait for a sale to buy a game.
Just buy the platinum editions of games at a reduced price, sure you have to wait a little longer, but most jobs offer overtime if you really wanted to earn a bit more.
I think you're making a big fuss over relatively little.

And don't even start with the whole "shitty jobs" attitude. I was shelf stacking. I would have killed to work in a resturant.
