It looks like it'll be fun. But I'm still a bit wary on the redesign of Dante, and for that little bit when his hair turned white, didn't he look more like Vergil than anyone else? Or is that just me?

I think DMC 4 proved even after MGS 2 also proved that people don't like a change in main character so people still won't like this no matter what they do.
With good reason though. They're "Rebooting" the series. Translation - They're taking away the story and all the character development so far, rewriting the story. Basically a "reboot" is just a nice way of saying "Doing a new story but without the imagination to create something completely new, so we're reusing old stuff and also hoping to attract it's current fans as as side effect". As you might have guessed I'm not a reboot fan.

There are several things which define a DMC game for me. One is smooth gameplay which sadly seems to be lacking in that trailer. It could just be that DMC 4's combat was so smooth that it's hard to compare, but the fighting looks very clunky. Hell the walk he does look's clunky. The graphics are worse which is never a good thing especially considering how good the graphics were in previous DMC games.

And well...I don't mind change as long as it's good. I was skeptical of Nero at first but he grew on me. The difference is that, despite skeptisicm, I could tell there would be at least some elements of DMC 4 I would like despite it's changes. I'm not seeing that here.

So please don't just clump us all in one group and tag us with "Haters gonna hate", not everyone will dislike this just because "it's different", some of us actually think the game looks pretty poor as is and even poorer for unoriginal IP.

I like the redesign

The visual style of the game looks good and the gameplay looks to be visceral and smooth. If it is indeed a work in progress and is going to be continually refined this could be great.
You're lucky your avatar is Pinkie Pie >:D

However, I do have to agree with you on the gameplay. I just hope they don't change Dante's personality too much. I liked him as the snarky smart-ass
At least your keeping an open mind. Most people are just instantly against this game because of a change in hair color (Which is perfectly explained by the games lore.) and an outfit change. If they don't change the character itself too much I fail to see why anyone is getting so upset about it.

P.S. Pinkie pie is my flame shield :}

So his deivl trigger turns him into the real Dante. Seems a bit pussyfooting...
Even though I'm not driven mad by the changes the style just doesn't make me think of DMC.

I'm actually liking Dante's redesign. I think with DMC4 Nero and then of course Vergil. The white hair and red eyes was kind of going a little far. Especially with how close Nero looks to god damn Dante. The redesign can bring back this iconic character, if it truly the real Dante. Which I do believe it is. They needed this redesign.
The reason why I didn't playe DMC4 was becuase of Nero.

I'd play it. Ninja Theory made me into a fan last year with Enslaved. I'm replaying that game right now, actually.

I don't know... It semms slow and sticky. For a game called DMC it seems pretty big issue. I preferd old desgin (not only dante's design). Anyhow we will see... For now i don't like where it is going, but time will tell.

never played a DMC game before, seen it and heard of it though

the trailer looks pretty decent and rather honest in it's presentation of gameplay as nothing seems overhyped at all, i'd give it a 3.7/5 if it was to scale

I think I will wait for the game to come down in price. The trailer looked OK, and I noticed that he changes into the Dante we are used to when his "Devil trigger" is activated. However, the way he walks strongly reminds me of the way Ashley Riot walks in Vagrant story but that is probably just me. The game looks like fun, but not worth the £40-£50 price tag it will inevitably start off with.

Honestly I don't understand all of the hate for this game, particularly after reading the comments for this on youtube. People complaining about the choice of music in the trailer being techno? really!? 1. The music wasn't even techno, it was barely even synth sounding. 2. ITS THE FUCKING TRAILER!!

Granted I think the character design kinda sucks, but hating on the entire game because of small details like that and the goddamn music? Thats just depressing.

Next we'll have Tomb Raider fans complaining because the new Laura has too much clothing on or some idiocy like that.

Anyway, as for the trailer, I think the game looks fantastic despite having bad character design.

Also I realize that most of my rage in here is more related to the youtube comments, I just don't feel like feeding the youtube trolls.

The only thing I really care about is gameplay. This trailer seems to show that it's going to be good; therefore, I am looking forward to this game.

Also I don't really mind if they redesign Dante as long as the difference is part of the story, they keep his over-the-top attitude, and there isn't a shred of Nero in him.

I really like how it looks and Dante's design. I will need to see more before I preorder it, but it looks fun.

Well, it looks like Devil May Cry now, and in a way I sort of like how they stuck with their design but had the devil trigger change him to the classic appearance. It gives me the feeling that they're listening to fans, but not totally caving in to them. And while the original new Dante design didn't completely jive with me, what I'm seeing in this video I can't say I dislike. I actually think he looks sort of like the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

Gameplay looks pretty good the world is...interesting to say the least if they can give me a viable reason for the world to be Inception the whole time (Hell explaining the game is a dream would aucutally be a viable answer for me) I'll give it a A even if new Dante isn't as cool. (Frikkin chain smokers *grumble grumble*)

Still don't view this so called 'dante' as Dante: He looks wrong, acts wrong and i just...don't see him in there. It's not just the black hair or smoking: His face is wrong, his eyes are the wrong color, outfit doesn't seem like him and personality wise he seems more 'aggressive psychotic' then 'cocky badass'. So, for the sake of discussion and until the game PROVES to me this is Dante, I'm gonna just refer to him as Kevin.

Ok, now we got all THAT out of the way we can move to the trailer. My response? It actually looks good gameplay wise. The enemies look interesting and varied, the morphing weapon is sure to definitely come into play here. However, at the same time, it has definitely retained the core of what devil may crys combat is all about. Kevin flows rather nicely, and can string combo's together rather well from what i can see. From the first trailer, i assumed his movement would be a bit 'clunky' in an effort to make it realistic, and thank god Ninja theory didn't do that. The 'devil trigger' seems to transform him into a form more reminiscent of the Devil May Cry 3 Dante, which is a nice reference...But, at the same time, I'm a bit iffy if it works in canon (After all, Devil Trigger is first unlocked in the Third game...and while i understand it's a core mechanic, it's going to need a bit more explaination as to how he's able to use anything close to it). Still, that said, i atleast now have some hopes for this game and am pleasantly surprised by the gameplay. Graphics, enemy design, combat and music seem to have been nailed pretty well...lets just make sure they get the plot, character development and transformation from Kevin to Dante correct. So, for the moment, consider me off the 'ruined forever' boat and on the 'Optimistic, but still cautious' boat.

(Captcha: Efforts Alloter? Ok then..)

Somebody fix that boy's hair, he looks like a crack hoe. I mean even in the trailer, Dante with black hair, lame, the second he gets white hair the trailer gets instantly awesome.

Of course not. I mean honestly you're taking them out of their comfort zone away from the Dante they grew up with and this may or may not be a likable character.

It's such a huge gamble that Capcom is taking. One can only hope it turns out alright, even if I do enjoy the game I will not refer to this character as Dante. I just can't
There will be people who do not like this no matter what they do. About 7 years apart and an almost unrecognisable personality between games is hardly something I'd call growing up with a character. I might accept it more if his personality didn't radically shift between games.

I never said haters gonna hate nor did I lump everyone who hates redesigns into one group. I simply said people will not like this no matter what they do. I never said all people wouldn't but some won't. As I already said some people hate redesign for the sole reason that it is a redesign. Yes there are some bad ones and can also do good ones. Now there is a certain grey area for opinion but I think we can all agree redesigns can go either way.

nero wasn't that bad, i liked DMC4, apart from lazy level design and a shitty plot. i didn't think it was bad because of the character change anyway.

and MGS2 is still good IMO.

however this looks, bad. i know its a work in progress but, it looks like it has a huge way to go. the redesign of dante is awful, makes him look like something out of twilight. the gameplay looks, meh. seems that they have just mashed nero and dante's combat style. the enemies look uninspiring, and the graphics look very sub-par, last-gen graphics. it looks similar to DMC3 graphics-wise.

i think capcom have destroyed a good gaming series, it saddens me
Yes and I liked Nero and Raiden. I don't care if others don't but it isn't good to redesign a characters personality or looks. Apart from the plot(which I don't care about in DMC type games) and the levels(my problem here was going through all levels twice) it was a decent game. Then there were people who solely disliked it based on Nero. There will always be hardcore purists like this. Yes they could have done a better redesign but they are trying to reach out to a different audience.

Now just a general comment on the combat. Now I don't know how WIP the gameplay is but in this case I don't think the trailer is a good thing to go on by how the game play will be. Also since this is the first title not being internally developed by Capcom I think it is fair to say that there will be radical changes whether these turn out to be good or not and we get the true Dante in the end is a different story.

Now on redesign. As Capcom said it is supposed to be an origin story somewhat similar to DMC 3 so I'd assume a younger Dante would have a different personality to an older one. Given that teenagers or the general teen demographic at the moment is consider angsty and Twilighty I can see where they are coming from with the redesign.

Actually my entire opinion on this changed come to find out that a few of my friends who read the DMC novel said that this is NOT A REBOOT, but even Capcom said that this is an ORIGINS story about how Dante learned to accept his demon heritage and how he became the white haired Demon Hunter. So in other words, the story is Cannon and takes place before DMC3 with Dante possibly going under the guise Tony Redgraves. So in short. I can't wait for this game now. Playing as an adolescent Dante sounds fun
