It's not the hair that gets me, it's the giant forehead. How many planets revolve around that thing?
You made me giggle like a little girl.

Boo. Bring out Dylan Moran.
Haha!
The world would never be saved if Dylan Moran was the doctor!
Bring on Bill Bailey!

Considering how many actors have played Doctor Who, and how different they all looked from each other, I'm astounded at this reaction.
I think everyone is more annoyed by the rash of, well, this is going to sound ignorant and bigoted but i prefer to be blunt so the rash of "fag" looking actors latly. Movie actors used to look like they could actually do half the shit they did, big tough men with muscles on top of their muscles who can get the shit kicked out of them and still get back up to cut the bad guys throat with a condom wrapper. You know, those really annoying serrated tin ones.
In short we want real men or at least people like Eccleston who look like they are chosen by their acting ability instead of how prettily the studio can market them. I was pissed off when I first saw Tennent as I thought they hired a no name pretty boy but he was insane enough to make it work but this kid is half a step up from starring in the next Twilight movie.
Anyway its all across the board, look at modern anime. Its all 12 year old boys who weigh less than a postage stamp.
We just want heroes who look believable and not this "metrosexual" bullshit.
Eh? The doctor has never been a commando. He's always been a lanky wuss.
Arguing about whether he looks tough means nothing to doctor who, it isn't his muscle that's imposing, it's his knowledge and being able to run away quickly that defines him, and this actor looks like he could run quickly (at least faster than hartnell could), and his looks are of course irrelevent to his knowledge.

Is there going to be another season of Tennant of just the four 'special' episodes? My family was pretty pissed when they saw this guy but I will reserve judgement.

Oh goody. A metrosexual emo-haired doctor. Then again, in my mind no doctor could compare to the ninth.
He is my mind was the best doctor ever, and if this guy uses the word "flabbergasted" in the show, they loose a viewer.

So... That guy.

He won't take over until 2010 it says, that means a whole solid year of arguing before we can even see the first episode.

You think we can keep the thread going for that long?

I trust that they chose him for a reason. From what i've seen of him in doctor who confidential he seems to be like a younger David Tennant and will be getting advice from him as well. This in my opinion is a good thing but as always there are people who will disagree with me.

Tennant will always be the Doctor I remember.

This guy, well, i'll reserve judgement until he actually is shown.

Okay.. He's a bit young, he's haircut is bad and I have no idea who he is. But! They haven't picked a bad Doctor yet and I doubt they'll start now. I'm sure he'll be great!

Brilliant. A Doctor with Emo hair...

...I'll give him the bod until he actually appears as the doctor.
Exactly what went through my head when I saw that picture.
Really? Mine was more along the lines of, "OH WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT AND WHY IS IT DOCTOR WHO?"

Although, it would be wrong to judge acting ability by hair alone, so I'd give him the benefit of a doubt until I hear more.

lol you got a point there, though from the way this is going the day before the first episode someone will have posted "friggin emo hair" and then 24 hours later there'll be a stream of "OMGZ HE WAS AMAZINGZ" 'cause Fate loves making people eat their words.

Yes, let's all burst out in indignant rage at the newest casting of the doctor because of his hair. Nice one. Give the guy a bloody chance before dismissing him out of hand. Sheesh. Also, yes he is younger than the others before him, but if you guys haven't noticed, the Doctor gets younger most times he regenerates. I fail to see why so many people have an issue with someone they've admitted they don't know anything about.

Bring out Dylan Moran.
Yes. YES.

He doesn't look exactly like I imagined the doctor, but nevertheless, Stephan Moffat is a brilliant writer, so I trust his judgement. I can't imagine that moffat would pick someone that was anything less than fantastic

Are you people really dismissing him because of his hair?
Not just the hair, it's the expression, the palid demeanour and the fact that he looks like an escaped extra from Twilight.

It gives the impression of marketing men exerting increased influence on castings decisions...

I knew nothing about Eccleston before he started on Doctor Who, and he was brilliant.

I know nothing about this guy, but going by past form the people casting for this show know what the hell they're doing. I'll reserve judgement until I see him perform.
This sums up my opinion in full.

Was dubious about the last two when cast, they both turned out brilliant, Tennant particularly so. Mat Smith, hadn't heard of him BUT I have faith in Moffat.

Same. I'm worried now... are we going to have someone like that retard Russ Brand as the Doctor? If he is, I'm going to have to go away and leave the series to die.

Well... I think wel all know that under Moffat the series will be darker.
So why shouldn't the docter be?
As long as he doesn't go emo I'll continue watching.

And Eccleston was better than Tennant.

I think the fact that nearly everyone on the planet hasn't heard of this guy says something good about his acting skills. They can't very well have cast him for his already established sprawling fan base, could they.
