Seriously...most of us here who picked up the little gem on the 360 known as "Earth Defense Force 2017" probably love it. I know that I did, at least. Killing giant bugs, robots, and UFOs with infinite ammo weaponry. From rocket lauchers that shot dozens of rockets, homing missles that sent out entire swarms of seeker missles, to stationary turrets, to your good ol' assault rifle,to shotguns, to flamethrowers, to tanks, to mech suits, to helicopters, to hover bikes, to sniper rifles with a higher damage stat than a fucking rocket launcher. All the while mashing LT to roll out of the way of the insanity.

Now behold! Another EDF is on the way. At this point, it seems all but confirmed!

Fellow EDF fans, rejoice!

So, has anyone else here heard of/played/loved/hated EDF2017?

So, you never played the previous game on PS2?
Which was almost exactly the same, but minus that mech suit you mentioned?
Yeah, it was good fun. Maybe time for me to get back into the series...
Edit: Found it

I have never played earth defence force because it seemed like a game that would improve with better graphics (a sentiment I rarely experience) so I am waiting for a new iteration. This would be fantastic because I love killing massive monsters but thought the original just look a bit too old for me.

Here I come expecting a thread on Red Faction and I get some crazy stuff about a game I've never heard of.

Though this sounds insanely awesome. I hope it comes out for PS3/PC

I'll have to find my copy of it, if I still have it in my room...
I can't find it ;~; I must have moved it to the other house ;~;
However, I can tell you that it had a different name, but was exactly the same (Minus mech suits).
Damn, it was interesting to outrun the Turtle missiles...
Edit: Put it into my original post. A wonder what a little google/wikipedia search can do.

Im inticed, and now have the strong urge to shout "EDF!" repeatedly while running with perfect posture shooting giant ants with a rocketlauncher...

To be honest i'm a big snob when it comes to games like this. I find it hard to just play games only about fun now, i don't know why. It's predecessor looks decent so i'l keep an eye on the new one to see if i like it.

I've been having the opposite problem lately. I just find it hard to care about story anymore...I couldn't even get into Red Dead or ME2. Shit, the only story driven game I've liked recently was Mafia 2.

Blasphemer! Traitor!

I think the last purely fun game for me was Transformers: War For Cybertron. I enjoyed it for a while but then i got bored of it and traded it in. I always keep the games with a great story in my collection though. I think it's because of BioWare, Valve and Rockstar that i've begun to reject games without a good story in it now, damn them!

Valve has a good story?

I wouldn't know. Half Life has more unresolved plot lines than any game I know. And the dev cycle is so long, that the story is hardly worth the wait. Their gameplay, and general writing, is top notch, though.

Rockstar were masters of satire. Red Dead was missing that satire...And that ate away at me more and more, until I realized it wasn't coming. Sure, it was R* San Diego, and not R* North, but all the same...Very solid from a gameplay standpoint, even if it never evolved beyond take cover, shoot. None of the weapons really felt different, even upgraded version. No real control issues, but nothing special in combat to really stand out from the crowd, either.

Bioware. I don't know. I really liked the gameplay, I just wish there was more depth to the RPG elements. When I upgraded my powers, they didn't FEEL different at all. Dragon Age more than made up for that, being deep enough to satisfy in that regard. :)

Dear god, did I love my 65 hours with my Warden.

Now to take that entirely out of context!

OT: I have seen clips of EDF, and just the sheer scale of it makes me feel childishly giddy. Giant spaceships flying throughout, as well as giant enemies. Looks like a ker-sploding paradise.

YES! I loved earth defence force 2017. It's as close as you'll ever get to being in a 50s sci fi movie. Giant bugs, robots with mega death beams attached, whole cities getting levelled, I loved it. And the weapons had huge variety. Even the usually pretty standard assault rifles were varied, with an ascending order of increasigly powerful standard ones, alongside slow firing but spaceship-levelling rifles, and ones exclusively for spray and pray madness.
I can't wait to see how the new one turns out. Hopefully it gets a UK release with a decent amount of stock. It would also be epic if it had online co op as well, as much as it's gaming's new cliched buzz-word.

@Onyx Oblivion: There was satire, but sadly, not much, and you often had to go looking for it. It was mostly in the newspapers and the movie theaters, two completely optional things which you don't get rewards for doing, so most people didn't bother. Still, I liked the game as a whole, even if it does seem that Rockstar are forgetting the tongue-in-cheek approach which made the earlier GTAs (and red dead revolver) so popular.

EDF! EDF! EDF!

I should go back and try and do the last one on Inferno. By god that's insane...

Previous Games. There are two PS2 games, released internationally as Global Defence Force and Global Defence Force: Tactics. The Xbox one was actually EDF3.
