...Am I the only one that would freak out from having a glowing green light walking down my hall in the dark? I mean, it's adorable and I'd want one, but holy crap, the first few nights...or waking up for a piss and it's sitting right next to your face O.O.

didn't this happen years ago? and I really hope that these thin don't get sold on the market it's cool that they're trying to cure HIV and all but I don't think that they should manipulate genetics this much

Just making them glow in the dark is one thing (I think it's pretty cool).

But using them for AIDS research, just doesn't sit right with me. Cats aren't human, so it's very unlikely that any results from such experiments would have any valid use when applied to people.

Science can't test on humans because its immoral by the public, and its only for the HIV equalvilent on cats, not for humans.
Basically, we could, very well, test on humans, but its not morally correct.

I was under the impression that bored scientists have been doing this to some species or another every other week since, like, 1987. I remember I read about it in my biology text book back when I was in High School.

People keep saying "Glow in the Dark" when that isn't the case from what I read. They glow in the presense of certain light frequencies.

So they aren't so much glow in the dark, as black light reactive.

Either way, I would love one :D

I cant imagine how much it would actually cost to make a cat glow in the dark like that and sale it retail.

Still, this sounds like progress to me. THough once cat ladies around the world hear theres bound to be protests and shouts of how inhumane this is.

Good thing its only under certain types of light- I know normal glow-in-the-dark cats would be a nice idea, but I think the show Better Off Ted had a good point to make on that:
"...the fire-squirrel[their term for their bio-luminescent squirrel] went insane because it's light kept it from ever going to sleep."

Yeah, Perhaps I am in the minority, but I dont think this is cool.

The question I have to ask is what sort of unanticipated side effects will making the cat glow in the dark have on its biology? Accelerated tumor growth? Innate premature respiratory failure? Malformed heart that cuts life expectency down to 1/5th of what it would be?

And for what? To recreate Paws from Cthulhu saves the World?

Just really doesnt seem right to me.

Actually that can happen. I was not aware that if you have a fish tank of painted glass neon tetras and change their tank light out for a black light they will go insane from the glow and break their own backs.

If one was for sale i'd buy it.

ive seen this done to mice before but never to cats.. the results are pretty damn awesome
now do it to a snow leopard, and make the world's most obvious predator

i want a glowing kitty named 'nukey'

imagine the pranks you could pull..
