Uh, that's just depressing. At least BF3 looks more colourful.

(I'm still a mug, though and will be getting both)

I realized something earlier today that applies to this.
I read a book recently,a very good book, about how subtly our brain works to block out certain information, to help up make sense of things.
When I read this I though, "Please, I'm more open minded than that, I don't hate change that much." However, I had an argument with a friend about Gears 3 a while ago, about how it's just another Brown/Grey, cover-based shooter.
I later borrowed the game, and I thought it was fun, "But it's still another of the same," I thought to my self.
I have realized though, that no matter the positive aspects of the game, I still judged it negatively, because it's colour palette is brown, a red-brown or some brown with yellow spots.
Despite the game being huge fun, I ignored the information that did not agree with my original judgement on the game. I have decided that, even though GoW3 has a bad colour palette, that's not why I should be critique it, I should critique it because the story is crap(IMO at least)
Well that was a longer rant than I meant it to be, so I have spoiled it so that you might skip past it unhindered if that is your desire.
TL;DR version: Stop arguing about crappy colour palettes, instead, argue about crappy gameplay, crappy stories, or other downsides to games, besides not knowing if that is the brown of an enemy or of the sky.

I think they should really put more effort into refreshing the map colours. Like in MW2, there was this one map I liked. It was Favela, and it was not because of the design. No, it was about the colours. The map had a lot more colours than several other maps in that game, and I kinda liked it. I also aced everyone with my MP5K :3

I cannot understand this website to save my life.

- "MW3 / modern FPS are brown and grey".

- "Fallout 3 is such a beautiful game!"
I understand it perfectly. Some people like brown/grey games, others don't.
There's also the fact that a post-apocalyptic game is supposed to be grey and dull, as everything has been ruined, while in a modern war-time shooter, things aren't that much ruined. I don't know if that makes any sense, but if it does, I'm sure you understand what I mean?

ok so this is what i'm seeing. three screen shots of ONE area of the game. these screen shots are on re a war torn NYC. I've been to NYC and it really is a GREY place especially if you go there on a cloudy ass day because yes i did that and it was almost depressingly grey.

what else, oh yeah war torn means a LOT OF DUST, so lets see a level with a dust war tarn new york is grey? and thats somehow not a good thing? because to me it sure seems shockingly REALISTIC to what i could expect if this actually happened.

and shut up any of you who say "well if New York is realistic and grey then they shouldn't have set it in New York to begin with!" because thats a retarded line of logic and i won't even go into just how retarded it is.

For me it's not even the colour scheme that annoys me. That is what war-torn New York would look like after all. What annoys me is the utter pointlessness of these images. It's like they could be captioned 'Guy Running', 'Two Guys Running', and 'Guy Running (again)'. Do they honestly expect people to be excited by these? That or they're just running out of stuff to put in press releases, in which case they should just stop doing them and trust that the fans won't get bored and move to Camp EA just because they haven't been spoon fed a few totally ineffectual screen-shots for a while.

An urban centre being grey, who would have thought.
In all seriousness it still will be better than BF3, and if you want an even more bland colour palette look at the latest I AM ALIVE trailer.
Nothing but brown.

God...come on Escapist, just because Extra Credits left doesn't mean you have to toss out ALL your journalistic integrity and impartiality.
I agree. When its coming to CoD the Escapist has been appealing more and more to their quite large demographic of CoD haters.

It's starting to show up in regular reporting articles and not just opinion pieces and that's a bad sign. Hope they don't give in to the temptation to cater to those type of people and straighten things out.
Yeah, given the Redemption trailer has been out for days now for what is almost certainly going to be the top-selling video game of the year and there isn't so much as an announcement article, just this "lol concrete buildings in New York and people wearing camo to fit in with concrete buildings are GREY derp derp derp" drivel, I'm beginning to suspect you're right. Pandering to the audience they know they have. It's shrewd, as much it lacks integrity.

How do they manage to make the game look less and less entertaining with every screenshot and video?
