I cannot understand this website to save my life.

- "MW3 / modern FPS are brown and grey".

- "Fallout 3 is such a beautiful game!"
I understand it perfectly. Some people like brown/grey games, others don't.

Looks like warfare. In a modern city. The title of the game seems appropriate enough to me from what I can see here.

Pistols at dawn! I shan't stand for this affront to my favourite trolling franchise. And by franchise I mean Modern Warfare 2, since Modern Warfare I never really bothered playing online much, and Black Ops looks and plays like arse by comparison to be honest, so that just leaves me with MW2.

And before we get some high and mighty "I play Battlefield so I is superior" guys in here, remember its exactly the fucking same.

Can we just please, PLEASE have something new in a shooter? Something other than space marines and russians? Something thats different from Unreal Tournament AND Modern Warfare? Not gonna lie, the whole FPS genre is losing its appeal, to me at least. I might look for the way out soon.

EDIT: I mean COME THE FUCK ON guys. This just got me thinking. Have you motherfuckers ever walked through New York? Because for fucks sake, it has so much more color than that. The lights and the sights are amazing, so WHY THE FUCK DO WE HAVE TO PLAY ALL OUR GAMES THROUGH A FILTER OF GREY AND BROWN??????? Rainbow Six Vegas got it right, semi-realistic setting with terrorists and the whole band of modern FPS must-haves scattered around, but the casinos were bright with different lights and colors and sounds!

Who the fuck sees this and thinks "Good graphics"? I look at one of those images for 2 seconds and almost die of boredom. It pisses me the fuck off, when the fuck did "its grey" become a major selling point, no, a mandatory feature for first person shooters? Even Hard Reset is mostly grey, for christs sake!
Typical street in New York = http://onevacationpackage.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/new-york-steet-150x150.jpg

You wanna know why R6V had such bright colors and shit? It's in Vegas! New York really is a pretty grey city. Not their fault they can't really change that. There's Central Park, Rockefeller Plaza, and Times Square for some color. Not much else. And how many times can there be fighting there? They have to use some random streets too, and guess what color they mostly are? GREY! Everyone quit bitching about something so inane. I'm sorry city planners don't usually deck out their city in gaudy colors all over the place.

I'm tired of everyone complaining about how grey and brown games are today.
NEWSFLASH! FPS's have been grey and brown for pretty much a decade now and you're just now (I mean a couple of years ago) complaining!? Look at this screenshot from Medal of Honor: Frontline. Seriously, look at it
Pretty grey and brown ain't it? Nobody was complaining about the grey-itude then were they? NO! If you want color stare at a CRT monitor really really close!!!!

Surprise, surprise.

Well, I suppose you can't call them out on being deceptive. This is, after all, what the entire game is going to look like. Shoot a guy, one-two. Duck in cover, three-four. Heal, blow something up, then do it all again. I'm personally a much bigger fan of Treyarch's attempts at CoD games. At the very least, they try to mix up the scenery and the storyline every now and then. World at War was a nice sight-seeing tour in the Japanese campaign, and Black Ops' twist at the end actually blew me away. But Infinity Ward seems so convinced that using World War 3 as a plot device for a game is both shocking and original. But come on, we've seen it all before. They're only fooling themselves.

The city planners have nothing to do with the issue of gray. If New York truly is as dreary a city as IW depicts it (which it isn't), then they should have set the game somewhere else. Monotony isn't fun; to say monotony is realistic is just a cop-out argument. These are video games we're talking about. Developers are limited only by their creative abilities. And I KNOW at least one person on the MW3 team has a creative palette that extends beyond "Let's have the player run down a gray street and shoot things."

Hm, so should a psuedo-realistic shooter have Rainbow fucking Dash flying everywhere with Nyan Cat and that blob from De Blob or whatever, painting the entire place in all the colors of the rainbow? That doesn't seem very realistic, and NYC is a pretty gray place...
Finally, someone with actual intelligence in this site.

"Hey guys, hating on CoD is totally IN this season! Let's do it!"

Will I be buying MW3 or Battlefield 3? Nope. Neither game brings enough to the table for me to be interested, and to be frank, I'm tired of modern military shooters. A surprise return to WWII would be welcome at this point...or hell, how about some brutal gritty WWI game? THat'd be pretty dope...

See, I stated my opinion WITHOUT devolving into "d00d MW3 is gAy all they dew is grey grafix". It can be done, people!

I cannot wait for Halo CEA/4, so that I can play an fps that makes use of the entire spectrum of the HSV color graph.

Either a game is brown, grey, or is de-saturated or has way to much bloom.

EDIT:

To be clear, i'm sure MW3 will be a fun game, I just like having lots of pretty colors.

.... I stand by my previously mentioned term of animosity towards this game franchise.
Oddly enough, I kind of liked Black Ops.
..... you and I will never agree on anything, will we? XD

The only people who will buy MW2.5 will be eight-year-old fanboys who wont care anyway, so why should the devs bother?

Well... that looks... like every other military shooter out there. Looks like I'll be skipping the 'fall shooter season of 2011' then. From what I've played of the Battlefield 3 beta it's unremarkable and COD has been going downhill since World at War.

Ah well, at least there are plenty of inspired titles to waste money on this year ^_^

I do like Black Ops. Split-screen with mates and bots only though, not online. Modern Warfare 2 just feels and plays smoother. And has commando. And the riot shield. Because there's nothing more hilarious than taking Riot Shield, RPG-7, Claymore, Scavenger & Danger Close and just running around shooting rockets at everyone.

I honestly didn't think that Call of Duty could possibly be more dull than it already is. [/oppinion]
Another generic FPS I won't be playing. Unless Activision decides to add a murder mystery involving robot dinosaurs being ridden by the Founding Fathers of the United States of America. I would pay good money to play such a game.

You know something has gone terribly wrong when the graphics (The technical side NOT aesthetics) have gotten better, while the game itself has begun to look worse.

Yes...gray...bad... Completely right of course, putting gray in visuals of gameplay set in an urban center...totally uncalled for. Why can't they show the portions of New York City with the Florescent pink concrete rather than the two blocks of gray concrete that they use for most Films, TV shows, and visual media we associate with the city.

Lets see the vibrant neon shades of concrete we all know and love in NYC!

I agree. When its coming to CoD the Escapist has been appealing more and more to their quite large demographic of CoD haters.

It's starting to show up in regular reporting articles and not just opinion pieces and that's a bad sign. Hope they don't give in to the temptation to cater to those type of people and straighten things out.
