On the risk of getting disapointed yet again I can not say that this early tinch of hopeful hype would not work on me.

I have never ever heard of Okami before I visitid friends in Argentinia and seeing it's trailers I had an odd feeling of "What the hell....?" at first, I admit it. Well let's face it, unless you are EXPERIENCING IT the cell shading is rather disorienting at first and a bit extreme. Plus the fact that to that day I haven't found a single game that managed feral-hero-gameplay in any way whatsoever even near to "acceptable" I was going in with no expectations.

And was rewarded with one of the most unique and wonderful expereiences I had in years. If you know the game you also know what I mean. If not: Don't go look up a walkthrough or review but get a copy for your PS2 of find a friend who has it and try it yourself.

It will be indeed hard for Capcom to get the fanbase to pull along because the major WOW-FACTOR (as in: WHOA, this is AWESOME!) is probalby going to be missing with this upcomming entry, unless they really really really put in something innovative and new that works.

Well, chances are, as it's Capcom, not to the worst. They do have a good line up of successful games and experience altho I wonder if the entire HEART of the game will also be beating the same way as the ones of the players.

I sure wish for the upcoming Okamiden to be a worthy sequel if only it will not end up dragging the overall quality down. Be it either a faithful sequel (IE: not much will change but they offer more of the same and with hopefully a new and interisting story and surroundings) or maybe even be another far cry out and a daring step into untreaded waters with new entries in the gameplay and characters, I sure hope that it will at very least be of the former and ideally of the later but eitherway it will work out solid.

Fellow fans and players: Let us all pray to the gods of Video Games for the best to happen.

Clover is gone (thanks Capcom!) so if it's ever done, it would be by Capcom themselves. I have as much hope of this being great as Deus Ex 3.

What's with the negativity? Is a little optimism really that hard?
After they ballsed up Deus Ex Invisible Wars, it's a little hard to come by optimism, don't ya think?
Invisible War was a decent game, it just seems a lot worse in comparison. And I believe DE3 is by a entirely new team, so there's no "they" about it.

Your uncultured.
You can't spell :p

A 2 player okami where second player uses the brush and first player moves around would be nice.

It could be anything. It could be a friggen DS vers-...

My god.

OKAMI WITH AN ACTUAL STYLUS!
I can't believe I didn't notice how well the two compliment each other. The only question is how the graphics would look.
probably not great. there's a reason clover had no interest in porting it to another system.
Ahem, just make it a 2d Metroid style game.
that would be a completely different game then.
No. Not really. Okami was a Zelda clone. Zelda is a dungeon crawler. Just like Metroid is a dungeon crawler. It's the same damn game just 2d. Aquiring new powers and artifacts to open up new ways of accessing different area's of the map?

Yeah. Same damn thing.
they'd be completely different in the same way that LttP and OoT were completely different games. if you fundamentally change the perspective, interface, and graphics, you're not porting it, you're making an entirely new game. even then i'm not sure the DS is capable of producing the same quality of animation.

I'm curious to know if they trademarked it using any specific kanji, since that would pretty much answer the question of what the "den" part actually means.

My guess is the logic of "gaiden" or "densetsu" is true, meaning that it's 伝 they're using. By itself it can mean legend or tradition, or biography/life story. There's a few other meanings but those are the most approprate, and some of them are read differently anyway.

Edit: Just clicked the link in the news story which confirmed that's the kanji they used 「大神伝」 is the full Japanese title for the game. I think we can discount it being a gaiden (since the "gai" part is missing) which makes me 99% certain that we can take it as "Okami Legend".

Not at all. See the Policenauts newsroom story.

I loved Okami. But I doubt it would be made for the PS2, so the likely hood of me getting the sequel is low. (I really wanted to find out what happened after the ending though)

At the risk of also diverting a thread with another post about a game 100 miles away from the original topic. I also enjoyed Invisible War and thought it stood up quite favourably even when compared with the original. No doubt there will be further cries of dumbing down once more concrete details of DX3 are revealed and Invisible War will suddenly be seen for the shining example of intellectually advanced gaming it was all along.

*ahem* But I digress.

My goodness it would be awesome news if another Okami game was made.

I played Okami several years late (this year, to be exact), and it was the Wii version (which was awesome, because I couldn't imagine doing the drawings with an analog stick).

I spent over 40 hours playing that game and I got it for about $30, which was an insanely good deal. Thinking back on it, I've yet to completely finish the game (as in, find all the hidden goodies and stuff, just like most other games).

I have nothing but love for that game, I don't know why but it just rings something inside me. I absolutely enjoyed it almost as much as I did playing a Mario game or Ocarina of Time for the first time when I was a kid. It was just so engaging and enjoyable for me.

Capcom did tease that they had a sequel that would "blow your mind" in the works a few weeks ago. If it was an Okami game, it certainly would blow my mind.

The pessimistic in me says the trademark is just going to be used as part of the Wii release in Japan (speaking of which, why on earth is the Wii version not in Japan yet? Seriously, everything in that game is based on Japanese culture.) The optimistic in me says it's going to be an awesome Okami game. Don't care if its a sequel, prequel, or spin-off.

Also, including Amateratsu "Ammy" Okami as a playable character in the Tasunoko vs Capcom game would also be nice. (Yes I know Yami is in the game as a final boss)

Most of Clover Studios ended up becoming Platnium Games, who have made Madworld and are currently making Bayonetta. Platnium Games also happened to be owned by Sega, who are at the moment releasing many of those "hardcore" games on the Wii that have come out lately (HOTD: Overkill, Madworld and The Conduit are all Sega's doing).
I wouldn't be surprised that if something was confirmed to be in the works that it'd be on the wii and would use the motion plus to fix the supposedly broken controls of the wii port of the first Okami.
