Hey guys, I've just finished building my new computer, which has an i7 2600K proccesor and a GTX 580 Graphics Card, so it can run most games. Thing is, I don't know anyone who plays games on PC anymore...or even PC etiquette..like how do you guys communicate etc.

If anyone want's to add me on Steam, and we can play some games and stuff, my Steam ID is: Avianion. At the moment, I don't really know which Steam games to buy or anything, but I was planning to buy and play Battlefield 3. I've got Minecraft, Terraria, Killing Floor and Magicka at the moment and I can definitely buy more.

If anyone can help by recommending games, introducing me to the scene etc.

Well for starters I'd recommend Team Fortress 2.

It's a multiplayer FPS which involves choosing one out of nine classes. Each having their own strengths and weaknesses. It's fun, challenging, and humorous as well.

Oh and it's free. :p

Get a good mic if you haven't yet. You'll need it for games like Killing Floor and Team Hat Fortress 2.

Oh, but one thing: do yourself a favor and get a Steam id. Makes it a lot easier for people to find you, for example:
Steamcommunity.com/id/Haziest is mine. You can alter your custom URL in the profile settings.

communicate is often Skype, Teamspeak, or Ventrilo. teamspeak or ventrilo for clan or voice chat while gaming is the go to choices.

I suggest if you get BF3 to browse the servers until you find a clan server that you like that the clan members are people you get along with. get to know them and possibly joining the clan. its allot better than playing with random team members.

as for games maybe Team Fortress 2 and its free to play now. there are hundreds of choices in the mmo/free to play where you can meet people who might have the same genre interest as you that you could play with.

Make sure to spit on dirty console peasants whenever you see them, and always tell people you're superior because you spent more money on something. Then you can be a true PC gamer.

Actually, you can build a mid-end PC for less than the price of a PS3 (or 7 if you're buying an Xbox.)[footnote]Witty RROD joke[/footnote]

I'd say get BF3 just to push your system and see what it can do and Team Fortress is a certain must play being free and all.

This your first PC gaming experience? If so I'd guess you haven't played many RTS games, look into Company of Heroes Demo on Steam, or Starcraft II if it seems more your thing.

League of Legends is free to play and will be very different from anything on consoles as well. It's a DotA style game, or MOBA if you prefer.

You could link your Escapist profile to your Steams as well, that'll be easier than handing it out to people you want to play with.

Yeah, but if you spend anything less that £1000 on a gaming PC then you are the equivalent of the dirty console scum and you may as well sit in their grime holes with them.

Pfffft. A true PC gamer wouldn't waste their spit on a console peasant nor waste their breath stating something console peasants are too stupid to accept.

The path to True PC Elitism isn't in realising everyone else is wrong it's in realising that they're completely irrelevent. :D

What game do you NEED £1000 for to run max.

£1000 is an insane amount at the moment for a gaming PC.

Lies. If you spent that much on a rig, you're either a hardware whore or the mental equivalent of an iDrone.

You should accumulate as many games as possible on your Steam account because digital consumerism is much better than the regular kind.

And the spitting thing, of course.

And please complain that your modded games get broken by official patches and updates.

And buy a new video card, just 'cause... 2!

Even if he is it's worth making that statement publicly, there are too many people who think PC gaming does cost that much.

Valve complete pack, but wait until the cristmass season, because it'll be like 70$ or less, it has every single VALVe game btw, you know, like teamfortress 2, left 4 dead series, portal and portal 2, and about 20 other games you will definitailly want, You'll be good if you get that, I'd also recomend Skyrim, but I would buy the valve complete pack if it was between skyrim and that.

If you have any interest in older pc games, you could have a look at GoG.com. They also have a good price on The Witcher 1 & 2 completely drm-free if you like single-player fantasy rpgs. The forum community is pretty active.

Aside from what others have mentioned, get Audiosurf when it's on sale this Christmas - if you have a large music library it's a great way to kill a few minutes here and there - it's basically indie Guitar Hero for the PC.
