As everyone else has said: Tell me something I don't know.

But at least now there is a study I can link to whenever someone feels the need to tell me how bad violent video games are.

THANK YOU!

Jesus, from what people say you'd think there wasn't violence before videogames came along. Statistically, plenty of people (the ones in all the stories) who play videogames would have been dangerously violent without them, they walk too right? Why not blame walking?

"This just in, it appears that the professors who developed this 'paper' have, in fact, played games at one time or another! Thus being infected, their papers have been thrown out."

Fox news, calling it.
This is totally going to happen.

The worst part about this is that this study - you know, one which actually holds variables like personality predisposition as a moderator of likelihood of violent behaviors into account - will be ignored completely the next time a disgruntled youth goes on a shooting spree. Then it's right back to correlation = causation for the uncritical and bookdumb media!

People keep saying this study is stupid, but you know what, it's not.

Why? Because yes we all knew this, but a lot of assholes who want to censor gaming disagree, and now we have something we can point to and say "FUCK YOU MAN! THIS STUDY SAYS IT DOESN'T CAUSE VIOLENCE!" *destroys opponent with a suplex learned from Dead Rising* (you're not clever for noticing the irony, it was intentional)

This is exactly what I've been saying for years now. It's really not fair to say that violent media, including but not limited to videogames, has no impact at all on those who partake of it but the only ones who will be impacted on anything more than surface level are those who have a mental disposition to be impacted. Were the kids involved in Columbine affected by their exposure to videogames? Maybe they were, but what about the other 10s of millions of people who play the same games and yet do nothing but enjoy them as escapist entertainment. As the article also states, if there truly was anything even measurable as far as a direct link between 99% of society and the consumption of violent media then almost everyone in the developed world would know several mass murderers or generally outwardly violent people because violent media is essentially unavoidable these days.

Wow, that registered a 10 on the obvious meter.

great job, now can we move on to curing cancer?
How about we put some of this research money into alternative energy or fixing the screw up in the Gulf of Mexico.

We've only been saying this for how long..
Ya but at least somebody said it from a position of "authority" instead of us poor maladjusted gamers. *sigh*

I do like that the person specifically said that people aren't blank slates thus the Devil Made Me Do It excuse is weak. Rapists buy porn but porn doesn't make rapists. The reason that rapists buy porn as opposed to the reason the normal guy buys porn is what makes him a rapist.

Sorry, this is one of my pet internet fights and thus I am a little too happy to have more ammo. So you get your choice of hug, fist bump, or high five to help me celebrate.
Can I have all three at the same time?

Honestly, we know this. Any normal person can see this as the case.

Well just more (metaphorical) ammo for us to use in the Supreme Court.
That pic made me lawl!

OT: Glad the rabid men of the media can have some proof that video games are not always equal to violence.

those same assholes, however, will probably ignore this study.

dont the scientists of today have anything less obvious to prove? i was soooo disapointed when i heard the great secret of bees being able to fly was "they angle their wings when lifting them up to prevent drag" thats not a big secret! thats just common sense!! if they didnt they'd be flapping themselves DOWN aswell as up!!

i hear scientists have now proven that 73% of all scientists prove obvious things that no-one cares about

Ok, so when us gamers our selves say that we are not violent in the real world no one belives us. I hope now that a study has been done people will start taking our word for it and we will soon see then end of all this anti-game bullcrap (and the rebellion (Star Wars quote, hehe)) people who have never play a game in their life keep spewing out. But hey, theres always going to be concerend (*cough cough nazi cough*) mothers.

He he, just thought of a funny...
What will scientists prove next that scary games dont always cause wet pants?
