I loved the reboot so I can't wait for the sequel. Well, I can actually. If I couldn't I'd buy the Xbone. Instead I'm waiting for the inevitable PC version. It's a timed exclusive, and it's not going to make anyone buy the Xbone just to play a linear single player action adventure.

Still that horrible voice actress, ey? *tsk tsk tsk*

And are they really going to push her urge to discover as some sort of emotional drama? Because in the previous game I could kind of feel sorry for her since she got stranded, but if she's just going to look for trouble and then find it, I'm really not going get invested in her plight.
Ah right. XD

Yeah, uhm, I was listening to that accent and seriously thinking 'there is something very wrong with lara's accent'. I've spent a long time living in England, and that... Just doesn't sound like anyone from there...
~shrug~ oh well.

Anyway... Another tomb raider. OK then.
I looked her up. She's British but it seems like she spent a lot of time in the States. I know that can mess with your accent a lot.

I believe that Microsoft and Square Enix have given the Tomb Raider fans more than enough reason to be salty and cynical.
Seeing that Tomb Raider was my GotY 2103, I'm not seeing it. Everything about this looks as good or better than before thus far, timed-exclusive aside (although heaven knows I wasn't going to buy it early anyways).

This may be in part because I am WAAAAAAAAY more of a Tomb Raider fanboy than pretty much anyone else on this site.
Or...you're more of a fanboy and are thus blinded to the overall bad nature of the reboot. The game itself was fun, just the story was way too focused on for what it was.

Am I the only one wondering what the fuck she's doing wearing shorts while climbing a frozen mountain top?
I think those are just really tight pants because Lara Croft.
I'd take that answer if it was any other Lara Croft, but this isn't the happy-go-lucky(ish) treasure hunting lovable ***** in a somewhat wacky world. This is a "REAL WORLD" that has "TERRIFYING CREATURES" in it and "REAL CONSEQUENCES". As far as the narrative goes at least, gameplay's alright, just a bit repetitive with spawning waves of enemies, I hope there's alot more puzzles and "how do I get there" gameplay in this one, got really bored of shooting with different guns that don't really feel like they have much difference in how they shoot beyond just being backups when you run out of ammo of the one you have in your hand when a fight starts. And hopefully less QTE's, or at least the ability to skip overly long death screens(like seriously, Souls has more variety and less tedious in the "YOU DIED" fade-up).

Has it been confirmed that it's only a timed exclusive? Because last I heard, that's just people hoping and assuming really, really, really hard.

If it is confirmed, then I'm happy. I enjoyed the reboot and I think it might have potential. It looks like this one might be trying to go more toward the exploration part than the first game did.

Need I say it again? PC or GTFO.

If you do decide to realise your bullshit move in time to still be relevant; I'll happily buy it, like I did all the other Tomb Raiders dating back to the first one.

Yea it has been confirmed:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-08-13-microsoft-confirms-rise-of-the-tomb-raider-xbox-exclusivity-deal-has-a-duration

Wesley Yin-Poole: Is there a time limit on the exclusivity period?

Phil Spencer: "Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn't buy it. I don't own the franchise."

Wesley Yin-Poole: Can you tell us how long the duration is?

Phil Spencer: "No. It's not because I'm trying to be a headfake on anybody. It's a deal between us and the partner. People ask me how much did we pay. There are certain things I'm just not going to talk about because it's a business deal between us and them. Obviously the deal does have a duration. I didn't buy the IP in perpetuity."
That said as you can see what happens afterwards has not been addressed. However a PS4 and PC port are very likely.
If I had to take a random guess than the exclusivity will probably last 6 month.

I can't get hyped for this. It's a teaser. It shows me nothing that reflects actual gameplay and I feel like it's taking itself way too seriously. Give me a Lara that has fun with herself in her element. One that cracks quips and solves ancient (and surprisingly well-maintained) puzzles, and shoots the bejesus out of giant spiders, velociraptors and other beasts and improbable creatures who aren't generic men with guns. Even the live-action movies weren't this sullen and somber and let's face it, these new games want to be movies.

You can spot the QTEs at any rate.

Cynicism aside, I'll be buying it. I was quite impressed with the reboot so I have high hopes that they'll have polished off some of the rough edges this time round.

Boo at it having the same voice actor, but hurray for being reminded that Rise of the Tomb Raider exists.

A game that should, by all means, have been a multi-platform game out of the gates is a timed exclusive now?

I guess I will be picking this game up, 5 years from now, for 2 bucks from a yard sale then. Can't really condone these kinds of actions from developers.

The only thing I'm thinking about right now is that right after the icy avalanche, the rest of the teaser trailer is nothing more than a dream sequence...

Other than that, I got nothing... because my gameplay senses are frozen right now...

Did it? Cause Tomb Raider failed to hit its sales target, so the game was not profitable. That is why we are stuck with the Xboned beta testing the new one before anyone else.

Took awhile to become profitable as well.

I hope the weapon upgrade system is a little more realistic. Try as I might, I have been unable to turn deer guts and old metal pipes in to a grenade launcher mounted assault rifle.

Yes it did, selling over 8.5 million copies thus far makes it the most successful game in the entire franchise: http://www.polygon.com/2015/4/6/8354029/tomb-raider-2013-reboot-sales-square-enix

SE expectations were wrong, the game was doing alright.

Number of copies sold doesn't necessarily equate into covering your production costs. Particularly when the longer the sales tail is on a game, the more heavily discounted those copies are. For example last year I bought a publishers pack on Steam that came with various games, including the following : Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider 2, Tomb Raider 3, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, Tomb Raider VI: Angel of Darkness, Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Underworld and let's not forget Laura Croft and the Guardian of light as well. I believe there was about a dozen other games involved in that pack as well and the price was less than 30 dollars.

I guess what I'm saying is this: It's entirely possible for a game to sell a lot of copies, but not make enough money back to cover the costs of putting it together. This is exactly how Tim Schafer can go to Kickstarter asking for 300k to make a game, get 3 million dollars, and then only publish 1/2 a game (running out of money).

Some people are just bad with managing budgets or they miss the mark in terms of what they ought to spend vs. what they are likely to earn.

Let me join in telling people something they already know: While the overall figure in copies sold does not tell you how much money it made it tells you how successful it was in terms of acceptance to the audience.
No TR title has sold more copies and faster than the reboot.
So when SE tells us that they are disappointed about it then the conclusion should be that SE failed to gauge the market and seize the budget of the title accordingly.
The conclusion should not be that TR was selling bad.

I'm well aware of this little circumstance.
What I'm getting at is the go big or go home mentality of publishers as you will soon address in your very own comment:

This is the crux of the matter.
Why was SE expecting to sell 6 million copies of TR within 4 weeks when no other game in the entire franchise ever sold this many units by a very long shot?
This makes no sense.
TR is doing fine. What is not doing fine is the way SE gauges the market and seizes their budgets.
