New Wing Commander Rumors Start to Swirl

Full disclosure: I've never played any of the FMV Wing Commander games. I have the first two and at least one of the add-on packs sitting on a shelf but the FMV thing just did not turn my crank.
Why does Prophecy not count, may I ask?
Now, I'm certainly not the greatest Wing Commander fan around here. My father was. Prophecy was the only game in the series I (consciously) played and I liked it. Still do, actually. It's kind of my go-to game whenever I find my old joystick again.

OT: I've played every single WC game, I mean every single one (yeah, even Academy), I was a diehard fan. And then the movie came out, and it was such an awful, awful letdown. The only "Wing Commander" quality it had was the title, it was a travesty.

You can count me amongst the group that want you all to FUCK OFF about Prophecy, because I liked it. Personally, I liked Prophecy better than 4. At least Prophecy tried to create a new scourge to battle, rather than ruining Tolwyn by having him go full-on master race on humanity.
Call me a purist, but Wing Commander's always been about humans fighting non-humans in space. It really should stay that way. Also, let the other characters go for god's sake. Other than Maniac there wasn't many other memorable characters. So you can bring Tom Wilson back, if he can still fit into his flight suit.

I'm literally bouncing around the room right now. This is one of my all time favorite games on the planet. I still have the SNES cartridge for God's sake. I never really played anything that came after, but if the can kind of go back to their roots I would buy that game. I'd buy the living hell out of that game!

Damn it son, I have been waiting for ages for a new space fighter simulator. Can't wait to burn me some more furballs.
Only allowing a joypad to be used instead of a joystick is one prediction. Limiting controls to only that which can be fit on a joypad as well.Keith K said:

Because it broke away from the original storyline with a whole new cast of characters, enemy, etc. It's basically Wing Commander in the same way that Privateer was Wing Commander - which is to say, not Wing Commander.Avayu said:

Still, I certainly enjoyed them at the time; I played 2-4, and bits of 1 on a friend's Super Nintendo, and I wouldn't object to see what they could do with the game with the latest in polygon-pushing chrome.
Mild confusion that the "schedule project actors" would include Malcolm McDowell, though.

The new WC will be a FPS with innovative cover base system and 3 AI team mates...err ship mates to control...
ITS A GENIUNE WC GAME... the shooting will be onboard the Tigers Claw, so there.
Regarding the reason to fear consolisation, well you can pretty much discard any advantages to using a Flight Stick as the game would most certainly be optimised for a gamepad, definitly be more of a arcade game and as far away from a simulation as possible ( limited number of keys to control the various systems on the fighters ).
Seriously , can you see someone putting in... whats was that... $31 million and not marketing it for consoles, who for the most part wouldnt of played much of the original WC games so continuinity isnt really a factor.
