How cool would it be to have a COD game set in Afghanistan circa 1992-1998 where you fight as a Taliban against the PDPA and eventually the United Front in an effort to take over Afghanistan? Anyone? Anyone?

Whatever, I think I'm the only person in the world who knows how cool that would be. You could have a protagonist who is originally excited about the Taliban, but as the atrocities add up he becomes more and more disillusioned, eventually turning against them and getting killed at the very end.

But of course, we won't see THAT because the Taliban are "bad." After all, who cares that the people they fought to take Afghanistan were equally bad? It's this politicization of world history, the definition of "good" and "evil" that's not based on objective criteria, that makes current generation FPS stories so unrealistic and boring.
And THIS is why I wish I could mod o_O that would probably be fantastic.

I think it will slot in with Black Ops in one way or another.

Kinda wish the series would go back to WWII if it cant just die outright, but there you go...
I just can't really see WWII working again. We've already seen almost all possible campaigns and guns. They'd have to be really creative for it to work again, and CoD's not really known for creativity. (At least in regards to changing the formula.)
Well when you think about it we have really only ever seen WWII in Europe with a tad bit of Japan in video games. Sure it wouldnt be as glorious as Europe but there was that whole Africa part of the war.
COD Big Red one was set in Africa, part of it anyway, and another COD game that I can't seem to remember, I do remember being a British Commando and wrecking up a German base in Africa though.

That was CoD 2, a big chunk of it actually.

it will have a main character die, or have no outstanding personality
it will have shock value that will make them look more like retards and sickos than edgy
it will have a shitty badly put together story
it will have guns that are re-skinned and STILL INACCURATE AND PUT IN WRONG CATEGORIES!
it will have shitty sound quality
it will have a high frame rate to cover up its honestly shitty and out dated graphics
it will have a re-skinned multiplayer that has only minor differences added to it
it will have shit coding
it will have boring game play
it will have an annoying fan base even though everyone forgets about it a month after release
it will have record breaking sales and continue to destroy the gaming industry
and it will always, no matter what people say, be a sub par game that zombies will buy

Maybe they will throw in some RPG elements to make it seem more complex and different. Then its going to scare off 90% of its devoted fan-base that will then move on to a game that is not called Call of Duty but plays exactly the same as Modern Warfare 3 or Black Ops (whatever the difference between the two may be).

Or maybe its just going to be Call of Duty: [some title] which is just Modern Warfare 3 with more perks which make the game so unbalanced that nobody will play it except casual gamers.

I am sorry for making up Doomsday-esque scenarios, but I don't think the fan-base is going to endure another simple 'generation' of Call of Duty. It seems to me that it will simply die off like Guitar Hero.

Last, but not least,... It might just be Halo time again. Remember how popular that was before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare came out?

Optimistically, I'd say The Cold War, and not Black Ops style when the plot is about Cold War issues, but still finds contrived reasons to make you go to Vietnam. Something methodical, slow paced, completely stealth focused.

I said "optimistically" didn't I? I should have said "In my wildest dreams".

Call of Skyrim. Guns are now magic little fireball things. Knifes are now daggers, killstreaks usually involve dragons. *awaits internet hatred*

Maybe instead of Russians taking over the world, it will be Russians taking over the UNIVERSE! But, the tricky part will be to get the new alien planets to have the same brown and gray color scheme as CoD's earth.
For chrissakes, CoD games have color. Jesus, I don't even like the games, but I'm so sick of this criticism. Fallout 3 had no color, it was brown, why don't you get on its ass. CoD games have color.

I really, really want Treyarch to bring it back to WW2 but with an epic IW style campaign. World at War had such good, smooth multiplayer and the WW2 style just looks so good!

They should make a game about the first world war. Because I can never remember what the hell happened in that one, even though it was a really big deal at the time.

Brainstorm notes for new CoD plot:

America must win.

Extremely unrealistically defined good guys and bad guys.

Ridiculous shit has to happen.

Simple, because Fallout 3 is an amazingly immersive, amazingly designed game with a vast open world, a shitload to do, and an aesthetic involving a creative blending of 50s culture with futuristic things. So I can excuse the tasteless colour pallet.

CoD on the other hand is a linear, cover based game where I cant aim my lumping gun without jamming the iron sights in my lumping face, that centers around the military, the most booooooring subject for a game EVER.
Yeah, I know there's multiplayer, I don't give a lump

I know that both games look like shit, but if it's a choice between awesome game that looks like shit, and boring game (for me) that looks like shit, I know what I'm taking.

Honestly?

Black Ops 2. That one ended on a cliffhanger, so there's bound to be sequel, with even more explosions, useless ass teammates, shittier spawning than MW3's, worse balance, lag, OP'd weapons & all the usual shit we've come to expect from COD circa MW2.

I did hear some where that the next COD will have something to do with futuristic warfare.

It's always hilarious to me how people who like Valve say that all that CoD does is rehash but they don't stop and look at the Valve Process of Making Games:

1. Take Half Life 1 or 2
2. Change the skins
3. Add dialoge (either scary or funny)
4. Sell as a new game
5. Add in hats to trade so no one notices
6. Repeat.

Face it, rehashes are everywhere.

I'm not going to add my speculation because every point I would raise will, in its entirety, be addressed with an insult (of some kind) or extreme distaste (in some form or another) towards the publisher/developers/fanbase that would result in me being hated, censored and/or sued for libel even though my comments ... damn... hmm...
What I'm trying to say is that I believe my opinions are so heavily opinionated that I couldn't resist insulting or trying to put down anything related, more so than any speculation I could provide and in the event I do share my thoughts it would cause me to come off as being strongly offensive which could cause me, in the most unlikely event, a court-case for damaging sales. My comments... damn this is hard not to actually go into them... Bah, regardless: I can assume that the end result would be one or more of the affiliated groups telling me my comments are wrong and that there are people who like the game and I can't predict the future or something. Hmm, yeah, sure, why not; and while we're at it I can't predict the earth will continue revolving for the duration of this week.

I think CoD is getting so predictable that speculation threads like this are unnecessary unless they're aiming for surreal or ambiguous results.

What I think based on what we all know now

COD Black Ops 2 Of course will come out. I mean BlackOps (IMO) had the best story and of course if you saw all the "Code" stuff on YouTube you'll know that...

Reznov might not be dead

Modern Warfare 1,2,3 story line is done, I mean it should be. I'm a big MW fan but it'll be stupid if they went back again to the same story line. If you ask me if MW4 came out it might go the same route as Ghost Recon Future Soilder is going; Add all the High Tech Foot soilder technology but make the new enemy either some home born American terror group or China (Leaning toward China)

What I want...

What I want, I want a ENTIRE COD game made around the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and Mossad. Think about it... Israel has seen a large amount of conflict (Suez Crisis, 6 day war, First Intifida, the Lebanon War) I mean the entire region is ripe for story, conflict and history.

Tl; DR - BlackOps 2 and Call of Duty: Israeli Conflict

Can we, the escapist community -just once- have a conversation about CoD that doesn't have over half the threads saying something along the lines of "rehash" or "reskin" or other phrases related to that.

Don't worry. We get it. Everyone on the internet and their mother has heard just about every insult you can throw at it. It's just a more complex "arrow to the knee" meme that you say over and over again. I don't like the "rehashing" the series does any more than you guys do, but there's literally no conversation in this thread besides the two people actually speculating on what it's going to be, and the other two people high fiving each other for relating to the same joke.

I am genuinely curious about the next phase that Call of Duty will have to take unless it wants to doom itself. I think if Treyarch wants to stick in the same vain as Black Ops, they might do something regarding the Afghan war between Russia in the 80's. Black Ops were there, and no clear "right" angle can be made. Though it does pose the risk of yet again falling into the same problem as the last few CoD's have, it's a start.
