So it's been announced that next month, new details will be revealed on the next Soul Calibur game. Personally, I'm hoping it will be another console game (as opposed to Broken Destiny, which was on the PSP).
And with a new Soul Calibur game comes guest characters. I figured this may be a fun place to speculate on the console-exclusive characters. Here are some of my ideas.
Please note that all of these ideas assume the games will be on the 360 and PS3. Your speculation does not need to have these limits.
-Idea 1: Bioware Protagonists
It seems like a good idea to have characters actually from video games. I figured maybe maybe something like having Hawke from Dragon Age 2 as a PS3 exclusive, and Shepherd from Mass Effect as a 360 exclusive. The only problem is that I have no idea how Shepherd could play in a fighting game.
-Idea 2: Anime Characters
SC4 had some guest characters who were all designed by creators of different anime. Seeing as how it IS a Japan-based franchise, it would make as much sense (if not more) to have anime characters in it as it would Star Wars characters. I have no idea which ones it would be, though.
Those are just some ideas I have. They could also be tie-ins, like how the Star Wars characters were tie-ins to The Force Unleashed.

I heard they were originally planning to put Dante as a guest in SC3, but it didn't pan out.

He's certainly my choice, though. He's even got more of a possible moveset than most people realize...because most people wrongly ignore DMC2.

He was the best thing about Soul Calibur 2. Poor Xbox was trapped with Spawn, and the Gamecube got Link, which was pretty cool.

As long as they don't bring back that green action figure Necro-dude-thingy, I'll be happy.

And give Ivy some clothes for her own sake please.

I love the Soul Calibur series, but quite frankly if they put anime characters in SC5 I would not buy it.

I kinda like the Bioware idea, purely as a result of my being an utter Mass Effect fanboy. But how in the hell would commander Shepard work as a character in a SWORD FIGHTING GAME?! (and if you say light saber I will hunt you down and gut you)

Why not go with what they did for Soul Calibur 2 and have a totally unrelated guest star representing the console? I like how Kratos from God of War has now been the Playstation exclusive guest star in two separate fighting game series.

That's ironic, I'm pretty sure Spawn was the most interesting guest star out of all of them, he wasn't even from a video game, much less a fighting game. Followed by Link with his overpowered bomb and arrow moves.

But seriously? Heihachi? A character from their OWN MOTHEREFFIN' FIGHTING GAME?! Made by the same company, on the same engine, using the same character models, that's got to be the lamest guest star in history.

I really haven't given much thought to any new guest characters, I'm just hoping my mains (Lizardman, Yoshi, Sets, Raphael, Xianghua) get some nice changes in the next one...
...And that we actually get a new one any time soon! :`(
EDIT: How did I miss the first sentence in the OP and read the rest >_>
Either way, JUBILATIONS!
DOUBLE EDIT:

The PS3 version will probably have Kratos... they've been throwing him into everything else, and he was in the PSP Soul Calibur game, so why not?

And what could the 360 version have? Master Chief, or maybe Marcus Fenix? I mean the only Xbox exclusives left that I can think of are Halo and Gears of War(I own a 360 by the way).

EDIT: Hawke could probably work. But what class, gender and personality would they use?

Well, I know who I'd like to see kick some ass...

YES!!!!

With a bladed hat, and razor-sharp insults that leave your opponent whimpering and crying in the fetal position. That would be fucking awesome.

Well just in random fantasising? I reckon Alex Mercer from Prototype would be an awesome character, as would Sora from Kingdom Hearts. Why not the Prince of Persia or Wander from Shadow of the Colossus? Or how about Ezio or Altair from Assassins Creed?

Lots of ideas there!

That's just annoying, the Star Wars tie ins were the the worst thing to happen to the series due to balancing and gimmick move sets. And then they just stick out like a sore thumb especially since they were injected into the story mode. As for Hawke and Shep as exclusives on diff consoles that is just a terrible repetition of the Star Wars mistake, although Hawke would fit quite a bit better, note that with that you would have to include both genders, and several costume designs as well as fight styles to accommodate all of the DA2 fans.

Moreover I think that exclusive characters to the different console versions should be characters that were historically exclusive to the consoles. Therefore Shep and Hawk are eliminated.

SC should essentially be limited to The current character set of SCIV minus the hugely out of place Star Wars characters and any characters to return or be added to the series should actually fit in better rather than be shoehorned in. There is one anime girl in the weird wire skirt thing that I despise too because of her art style clashing with the rest of the game, she could be remodeled and be acceptable as an addition to the series.

Cross over characters should also be limited to being playable or bonus fight only and not injected forcefully into the story.

And that's my rant sort of...

You're telling me that there was some point in time when anyone thought Soul Calibur was a "serious" game? Don't get me wrong here, I've enjoyed Soul Calibur quite a bit, I played the shit out of the first one back in the day on the Dreamcast, and I didn't play again until 4, but I enjoyed it too. That said, it hardly exemplifies gaming as art. It's a fun fighting game, and if it tried to take itself "seriously" it'd just end up seeming ridiculous. I say, flesh out the character creation even more.

As for guest characters, well, I honestly don't care too much. I hated the guests for 4, mostly because I'm anything but a big Starwars fan. But still, with decent guests they can be a lot of fun. I realize the chance of these guests is ridiculously low, but I think that having some of the characters from Ghost in the Shell would kick more ass than anyone has ever had. Motoko and Batou, one for each console, that'd be pretty damn awesome.

Character creation is fun and can be both serious and jovial, plus I've only played 2 & 4, so I'm stuck on outside the playground in terms of 3's supposedly awesome custom characters. I want custom classes in SC5.

In terms of custom characters, some fanwank characters like DOA4's Master Chief just sucked, I hope an insert character does get some though put into their fighting style. If we're going with Bioware, I want Sover-Saren, a multi-direction attacker. Failing that Samara/Morinth because her cutscenes display very aggressive use of Biotics.

(Yes, I'm aware that that wasn't Master Chief but another Spartan, I just want to see if anybody stops reading after that point and immediately quotes me to tell me I'm 'wrong', should be fun!)

Thanks for the heads up tho! I am happy.
Yeah, same here. Although, admittedly, I had fun with Link in SC2.

From what I've seen they only put guest characters in the even numbered ones (Link, Heihachi, Spawn in SC2, and Yoda, Starkiller, Vader in SC4) so I'm hoping there won't be any in SC5.

I also hope they make the game faster paced like 3 was. I never got 4 but played it at a friends house and the whole game was slowed down. It was rather disappointing.

When i say serious i mean when you look at and its roster you say, "Ya thats a respectable fighter, good cast of original characters and great balance.

Am a competitive fighting game player i guess. Just seems silly holding a tournament then deciding, "Ban star wars characters? or keep em" Like the guest characters ALWAYS make the game look a bit silly.

The character creator i think is pointless. Your using the same styles, whats the point? I feel all it does is take away time from developing the important parts of the game.

Take all the time the developers would spend on the character creation and put that into game balance. Soul calibur has a strong tournament following but there have been issues getting in the way (soul calibur 3 was completely broken and until 4 came out the majority stuck with 2)

Next time you think its not a serious game you go tell that to 8 way run .com

They love this game and play it more then most, most people buy soul calibur play it for a bit then leave. These guys are playing it all the time they apperciate all the detail its given.

More game play less gimmicks.

I dont see that working cause Shepard is a shooter. Thats why you didnt see a Halo Master Chief character.

Anyway, I dont know who it should be, and I dont feel there should be (mainly cause I dont feel there should be a new one), but i would say it would be Marcus Pheonix from Gears and maybe ratchet for sony.
