The 90s were strange? "Sucked ass"? What the heck is wrong with you people, the 90s were absolutely AWESOME! And Gak was loads of fun. And there was the Chia Pet, and Daria, and some of the best Disney's of all time (Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast). The true My Little Pony [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_little_pony#Generation_One_2] was in full swing. Home Alone [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Alone] came out. It was the golden age of the Star Trek [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_trek] movies (Generations, Contact and Insurrection) and series (TNG ran from 1987 to 1994, DS9 from 1993 to 1999 and Voyager from 1995 to 2001). These are just some of my favorite things from the 90s.
Maybe some of you are too young to remember.

Edit: I forgot, the 90s also brought us some of the greatest games of all time: the Monkey Island [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_Island_%28series%29] series, Zork Nemesis [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zork_Nemesis], a few of the King's Quest [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King%27s_Quest] games, Sonic as the article mentioned, Doom [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_%28video_game%29], Arena [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls:_Arena] and Daggerfall [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daggerfall]. I could go on, but I think I've made my point. ^_^

The 90's sucked to the extent, but for music it was awesome! Seriously Metal, Hip-Hop and electronica were, in my oppinion, the best in the 90's. Also Anime, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Dragonball Z, Digimon etc all great. Oh and Cartoons were better back then than now.

Generations was okay and i loved Contact, but Insurrection was forgetable. I literally can't remember the plot anymore.

the Monkey Island [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_Island_%28series%29] series
Aww yeah, good times. Don't forget the other old adventures like DOTT either.

For some reason the old fantasy/horror trope of disturbing the sealed tomb of some ancient evil, springs to mind. ;)

Yeah, the 90s seem so far gone now. And to think, I'll be 52 when they dig that thing up =/

I absolutely cringe when people say the 90s sucked. If people really believe that, I think they missed out.

I remember, as far as gaming goes, the 90s gave us (just a brief list):

Final Fantasy 2 (Final Fantasy 4, Japanese)
Final Fantasy 3 (Final Fantasy 6, Japanese)
Final Fantasy 7
Chrono Trigger
Killer Instinct
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Wild ARMs
Super Mario World
Super Mario Kart
Grandia
Legend of Mana (only if you count its Japan release date of July 15, 1999. It didn't make it to the US until June 7, 2000.)
Final Fantasy Tactics
Breath of Fire 1, 2 and 3

As far as shows went, all I'm going to mention is a few intros.

Where exactly is this capsule, Orlando? I need to be there when that thing gets unearthed. I was only 4 in 1992 but I still have to see what all is in there. Gods, this article makes me feel old...Also yes, Rob Liefeld is terrible.

Oh my gosh, you're right!! I *loved* DoTT!! Sam & Max was hilarious as well (never got into the new ones, though I tried).
Ooh, and I forgot the Wing Commander's too, those were some of the greatest space flight sims *ever*. And they had giant kitties.

... how are a baseball and barbie not dated and rollerblades are?

yeah i remember those times. good cartoons shows back then. nickelodeon was still riding high at that point. they had rugrats, rockos modern life, and bunch of others. cartoon network only had reruns of scooby-doo. endless reruns of scooby-doo. every time bob says the 90s sucked i always in my head go "you mean after 95 right?"

My father used to play Wing Commander a lot in my youth. That and Myst. I myself was more a fan of humorous adventures. I actually didnt play a single Sam & Max yet though.

Now that i think about it more clearly, my favorites were probably Curse of Monkey Island, DotT and Discworld 2. The last one got me into the books later on in my life.

What no dead tortured gay kid?
Oh the 90s...

I remember a lot of hate, crappy internet, and any semi decent kids shows canceled outright. I miss Sonic SAT.

Still I wonder if thats where the US 7 trillion surplus went.

The 90's sucked ass in pretty much every way a decade could suck. A decade without an identity, and without anything outstanding to identify it. I really can't see why you'd need a time capsule to remember it, as there really wasn'y anything worth remembering.

Coming from someone swwho grew up in the 90's, they sucked ass.
Yes, the best period of economic growth, stability and peace for the Western World in the 20th century and our lifetimes, that's not outstanding at all (did you sense the sarcastic derision because I'd like to lay it on nice and thick). The 90's didn't suck just because some parts of pop culture were a little wonky, the world was a genuinely better place back then, at least if you grew up in the US, and I'm so sick of listening to people whine about it.

"Charming cat platformer" have you played Bubsy? Wasn't very charming. Don't even have to play it to see it, here's all of Bubsy for you

There, now let us never mention Bubsy again.

Also, who threw in the baseball? They didn't think we would have baseball in 10 years?
I love the SNES Bubsy game... The first one at least. Still haven't completed it, but I think I've reached the last world.

And holy fuck that guy knows nothing about the game. He sees the gumball machine shooting pellets, and he goes to it thinking it's a checkpoint AFTER ALREADY GETTING THE CHECKPOINT JUST TO THE RIGHT OF IT! While there is fall damage, the part he complained about first was him jumping into the flipping sewer lid in mid-air, not from fall damage, and while it's a bit of poor design, you can negate all fall damage by holding the float button. He also complains on a precision platforming section (where cheese wheels are occasionally thrown down at you) that he can't just keep jumping upward. If he'd slowed down and took each platform a little slower, he'd have had plenty of warning the enemy was there.

I never played the second one, and I don't believe Bubsy 3D ever existed. I refuse to believe it. Ever. No.

This feels...wierd. I actually among people of an age that can make time capsules. It's already been 12 years into the 2000's....I was 13! when the 90's ended. ;_; Now I'm 24 (25 later this year). Fuck.

But there is one good thing, I realized that only about a 1/4 of my life is gone and so much has happened....lets see what the next 1/4 brings..................What is it Jeenie Breeden says? You have to schedule your own doctor appts. but you get to eat ice cream for dinner? Something like that...

I guess I'll find out if the trade off is worth it.

The god damn Soviet Union collapsed, and not because they were invaded by someone else.
In 1989.

You're so desperate for any form of identity, you're willing to co-opt an event that happened in a different decade. Next the 90's will try to claim 9/11.
The union started to collaspe in 1989. It officially ended in the 90s. The Cold war officially ended in 1991. 1989 was the year the Berlin wall fell.
