Nine Inch Nails are one of those bands that I know I like but I just haven't given enough time to. I bought their The Downward Spiral album a few years back and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, though, I've just not gotten as into them as I could have.

Anyone have any suggestions for what NIN albums I should listen to next?

Also, I checked out oHgr after someone mentioned them earlier. Thanks for the suggestion, they're pretty awesome.

I'm just going to suggest The Fragile, With Teeth and The Slip.
Year Zero is also good, but I'd start with The Fragile.

Nine Inch Nails has been my favorite band since I was 7, and I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to NIN.
Favorite album would have to be tie between The Downward Spiral and The Fragile.
My current Favorite songs are: Big Man With A Gun, Somewhat Damaged, We're in this Together, La Mar and Wish.

I have seen the Broken movie its ok but nothing earth shattering.
I have a bunch of NIN Live DVD's including: And All That Could Have Been, Beside you in Time and Another Version of the Truth: The Gift.
I do like the HDA EP and hope they come out with some more stuff.

Also the first time I saw the uncut Closer video I had nightmares (I was 8)
Is it worth me getting the live DVDs?
Do you think he will start doing international tours again? I've never been to one so I'm hoping he comes down to Australia again.
yes, get the "and all that could've been" dvd. Its amazing

Another Version of the Truth is a free Download off of thisoneisonus.org
you need a DVD burner to copy it on DVDs

but if not they do have other formats like Youtube, iPod and Bluray,
The thing is that this is a band run project with Trent's full support. It is an unofficial project and it might not be the most legal since NIN's former record company's own the rights to most of the songs used in it.

I Highly doubt NIN touring anytime soon, since Trent has said that "NIN's is going away for awhile"

Other then that the other two DVD's can be rented from Netflix

Yeah I've seen bits and pieces on YouTube, it looks pretty fucking good.
Trent is such a badass.
I love it how when he got so pissed off with the record labels, he just went 'fuck it' and gave out an album for free.

EDIT: kinda fucked up that snipping, but hey, I'm posting from an old iPod at 1:30 in the morning to gimme a break :p

Been listening to NIN for years. I even watched (and regretted... Thanks acid) the bootleg "Broken" Film.

One thing I have always speculated about something. Reznor kept saying that people would not like the fragile and kept saying despite such a long delay that the album was rushed. Given that there are two albums to it labled right and left I have to wonder if the Fragile was intended to be a concept album that was intended to play both CDs at the same time and have the music mesh into something different all together by playing them in unison. (sort of like synching up the wizard of oz & Dark side of the moon) Cant say as I have put the theory to test because in its existing state it likely would not work because as he said, he was rushed. However it would explain how there is such a heavy emphasis on more ambient tracks between the two albums. Any thoughts?

The wiki certainly enlightened me, I haven't really been following them since the downward spiral, I got into them with 'Pretty Hate Machine'.

I so pleased for Reznor that he's embraced things like Bit Torrent, and shaken off the big corporations, and seen that he can give away 400gb torrents of live concerts, and yet still sell out of $300 limited edition albums from his site.

I was very surprised to read that the military had been using his music for purposes of torture too, that's just offensive on so many levels to an artist.

Honestly, I think Reznor's just ahead of his time, and more and more bands are going to just move to selling thru their own site, maybe hiring a web guy to do all that instead of handing a 40% cut to Universal or whoever.

It's pretty bad when you read that his record company were selling NIN cds at $35 when a regular cd was nearer $21 'because NIN fans will pay it'. Fortunately now it's so much easier to buy both internationally and digitally.

As my addition to the recommendations, as everyone seems to be offering up more hardcore, less 'mainstream' stuff, I'll go the other way, with Pitchshifter, like NIN, they've very much evolved their sound over the years, both losing and gaining fans every step of the way.

Personally I prefer the later work, and didn't know they'd kept going, so I'm off to try to find some samples of their 2008 stuff!

Basically I was just wondering how many of you Escapists listened to Nine Inch Nails, or any of Trent Reznor's music. Not many people I know listen to his music so I'm hoping i'll find some people here to talk about his albums etc.
So.. What's your favorite album/song/lyric?
Love the social network soundtrack, also if you know 'Ghosts' (listen to it if you dont) then you might know this; there was a film festival where all of them got there own videos , this is my favorite

Interesting theory...
It's possible, but I guess we will never know unless that's what Reznor says in an interview later down the track. If that is true, it's a shame he never got it finished. One thing though, wouldn't you have to own two cd players to do that? And play them at the same time? That probably isn't that hard to time but still.

Also, wait what happens if you play the wizard of oz with the dark side of the moon?

Holy shit, that is amazing! And quite... Depressing...
Where can I find the rest?

I love NIN. I think The Downward Spiral has to be my favourite album from the '90s. There isn't an album of theirs I dislike but I will admit I much prefer their sound from The Fragile and before to their newer sound.

NIN is the shit.I don't have a favorite song, but my favorite album is the fragile.
interesting fact:trent reznor recorded the downward spiral album in the house where charles manson ordered the murders of sharon tate and several others.the house was to be demolished when he was finished recording so he took the door that had 'pig' written on it in blood when he finished the album.

Yeah, but after all this time I tend to doubt it simply because if that was what he was trying to do he would have likely mentioned it by now.

And Here is the first 10 minutes of the sync

I really loved Pretty Hate Machine and Broken when I was little. There was 0 out there like it and Trent Reznor seems to always be one step ahead of everyone. The Downward Spiral really blew everything open and I played the shit out of it, only to wait five years for a very disappointing follow-up album. Since then, I've picked up newer songs here and there and I've maintained respect for Reznor, but I'm not the fan I used to be.

They're actually one of my favourite bands. Saw them live a couple years ago and it was probably one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Currently listening to the song Echoplex right now.
Favourite album would probably be The Downward Spiral and song would be Discipline

Yeah, he wanted it demolished. Didn't know he took the door though. He called the studio 'le pig'.

I hated them when I was a kid but they have grown on me recently. I prefer other industrial bands like Machine Head and Rammstein but I've been meaning to give NIN a closer listen, thanks for reminding me!
I cannot think of a single song by Machine Head that I would label "industrial". Maybe we're thinking of two different bands? Albums like "The Blackening", "Through the Ashes of Empire", etc?
