I love NIN. I think The Downward Spiral has to be my favourite album from the '90s. There isn't an album of theirs I dislike but I will admit I much prefer their sound from The Fragile and before to their newer sound.
Yeah, but after all this time I tend to doubt it simply because if that was what he was trying to do he would have likely mentioned it by now.TacticalAssassin1 said:Interesting theory...viranimus said:Been listening to NIN for years. I even watched (and regretted... Thanks acid) the bootleg "Broken" Film.
One thing I have always speculated about something. Reznor kept saying that people would not like the fragile and kept saying despite such a long delay that the album was rushed. Given that there are two albums to it labled right and left I have to wonder if the Fragile was intended to be a concept album that was intended to play both CDs at the same time and have the music mesh into something different all together by playing them in unison. (sort of like synching up the wizard of oz & Dark side of the moon) Cant say as I have put the theory to test because in its existing state it likely would not work because as he said, he was rushed. However it would explain how there is such a heavy emphasis on more ambient tracks between the two albums. Any thoughts?
It's possible, but I guess we will never know unless that's what Reznor says in an interview later down the track. If that is true, it's a shame he never got it finished. One thing though, wouldn't you have to own two cd players to do that? And play them at the same time? That probably isn't that hard to time but still.
Also, wait what happens if you play the wizard of oz with the dark side of the moon?
They're actually one of my favourite bands. Saw them live a couple years ago and it was probably one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Currently listening to the song Echoplex right now.TacticalAssassin1 said:Basically I was just wondering how many of you Escapists listened to Nine Inch Nails, or any of Trent Reznor's music. Not many people I know listen to his music so I'm hoping i'll find some people here to talk about his albums etc.
So.. What's your favorite album/song/lyric?
Yeah, he wanted it demolished. Didn't know he took the door though. He called the studio 'le pig'.the wako kid said:NIN is the shit.I don't have a favorite song, but my favorite album is the fragile.
interesting fact:trent reznor recorded the downward spiral album in the house where charles manson ordered the murders of sharon tate and several others.the house was to be demolished when he was finished recording so he took the door that had 'pig' written on it in blood when he finished the album.
I cannot think of a single song by Machine Head that I would label "industrial". Maybe we're thinking of two different bands? Albums like "The Blackening", "Through the Ashes of Empire", etc?CrashBang said:I hated them when I was a kid but they have grown on me recently. I prefer other industrial bands like Machine Head and Rammstein but I've been meaning to give NIN a closer listen, thanks for reminding me!
yeah just watched a manson doc.he is one really morbid dude to want to even be in that house, let alone record an album there.I guess it might have been a bit of inspiration for him.TacticalAssassin1 said:Yeah, he wanted it demolished. Favourite album would probably be The Downward Spiral and song would be Discipline
Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Skinny Puppy are all good. I'm getting more into the genres as well, I just know I don't like NINletterbomber223 said:What you into?MaxwellEdison said:Industrial fan here.
Pretty much can't stand NIN.
(Looking to find moar nice indz/ebm you see)
Nah he didn't actually find out until after he bought it. He had it demolished because there was just too much history in it for him and he couldn't handle it. It's all on wikipedia or somewhere.the wako kid said:yeah just watched a manson doc.he is one really morbid dude to want to even be in that house, let alone record an album there.I guess it might have been a bit of inspiration for him.TacticalAssassin1 said:Yeah, he wanted it demolished. Yeah, they did a whole studio rehearsal session of videos for that album The Slip and it's all crazy awesomeTacticalAssassin1 said:I haven't seen that echoplex video before. That was awesome! It's one of my favorite songs, thanks for the vid.
I've met a lot of people who love discipline, I can't understand why people don't love echoplex as much a I do though... Hrmm...
And yeah the downward spiral is awesome. Mr self destruct, heresy, ruiner, that shit is crazy good!
yeah but how do you not notice the writing in blood on the front door?TacticalAssassin1 said:Nah he didn't actually find out until after he bought it. Can anybody tell me, is marilyn Manson in any way like nin? I know Trent and Manson used to be friends and stuff but music wise I don't know.
Pretty sure that would have been cleaned up by then. The door wouldn't still have the blood on it, it's quite a biohazard.the wako kid said:yeah but how do you not notice the writing in blood on the front door?TacticalAssassin1 said:Nah he didn't actually find out until after he bought it. did he buy it without looking at it?
THX 1138, is that that movie by.... Who was it by again? George Lucas? Yeah that was quite artistic of him. And one of his songs has a sound clip of porn but I can't remember which one. In the fragile one of his songs ends with a short clip of kiss or something too.Julianking93 said:Yeah, they did a whole studio rehearsal session of videos for that album The Slip and it's all crazy awesomeTacticalAssassin1 said:I haven't seen that echoplex video before. Discipline I guess just has a more... upbeat feel to it? Not really sure, but both are great songs.
Totally agree on that. Mr. Self Destruct is probably my favourite song on there next to Heresy. Gotta love that opening sample from THX 1138 ^_^
