As one of the the few people who enjoyed all of the matrix movies. And who greatly enjoys the Wachowski brother's visual style, I'll be anticipating this. It seems like a nice throwback to classic ninja mythos plots.

Yeah, Ninja Gaiden did come to mind, guess we won't see a Ninja Gaiden movie then.

I've seen ninja movies where the ninja's wear the word 'ninja' across their forehead (just in case you couldn't tell by their outfit's or perhaps because they wanted to help the kiddies literacy or something), so that's a good start ;)

Ninja is basically the Japanese word for assassin so it's a really stupid name but I dunno I suppose Rain at least looks the part.

BZZT!!

The American pop-culture has fooled you. Don't worry, millions before, millions after you.

Ninjutsu means "art of stealth", or "skill/technique of stealth". Ninja is a hidden warrior, more precisely nin - hidden, ja - person. Hidden person. Shinobi means "to steal away".

No idea where you got the assassin thing.

The film name basically means "Hidden Assassin Guy". Or "Guy, the Hidden Assassin" xd
Assassin is an arabian word though isn't it?. Or something. I thought it was a clan of dudes that kill people. So if we morph your knowledge and my crap knowledge then we get a much more fitting name for this high concept film.
"hidden clan of dudes that kill people stealthily"

Nice ring to it.

Nope, but close. It's a word that derives from Hashshashin (Arabic). They were a group, a sect if you want, that killed people for religious and political reasons.

The name is basically because they usually were on hashish and opium, which caused delirium and other symptoms of drug use (well, they were a cult, that's how the leaders rewarded their loyalty).

Still, Ninjas rarely killed, they were mostly used for espionage, theft and stalking.

Even if it's awful, I'll go watch it, just because of it's awful b-movie like name, man I love those "so-bad-they-are-good" films.
Yep exactly. It'll be one of those films I'll probably watch on DVD when I don't want anything too deep.

Funny that I was thinking the same thing about the name. If you think that a Pop Star can't be an action star, take a look at this guy without clothes:

The guy puts those certain Greek Army soldiers who shall not be named and their CG abs to shame! And he's not even killing stuff!
For shame! How long does it take to get a body like that?I want.

Actually I heard that the abs was one of the few things that wasn't CG.

How long does it take to get a body like that?
One hour and a six pack or 15 minutes and a bottle of cloroform.

So is this a spinoff from Shogun assassin?

I only watch fighting movies for the fight scenes. If the fight scenes are good and everything else is crap, then it succeeded as a fighting movie.

Wow. I actually remember Michael Dudikoff. He's a terrible actor, but at least his movies really sucked. (Ahem) I only know that because I've seen them all. Twice.

I think I remember seeing that opening scene before, in 300.

Either way, it looks like it could be a decent movie, even with the weak title.
Isn't "Ninja Assassin" a little redundant? It's kind of like saying "Postman Mail Carrier"

-But I digress.
-This is me, digressing.

Yes, this requires much careful study...for...erm...research and...science. Um. Yes.

Ok, dumbest name for a movie ever, but the actual film looks like good fun.

I'll watch it! I love me some beat-em-up kung-fu movies!
The trouble is that this one is done by the Wachowskis, who interrupted the excellent gun-fu antics in the original "Matrix" for a lot of really really bad fisticuffs "action" that looked about as realistic as a polar bear on a tropical island...
