Yahtzee's review of it was pretty dead-on, but all in all I liked it. It feels like an old-school game, while maintaining a new-school look.

it's 30 dollars at blockbuster to own, and pretty fun go nuts.
mind you if you buy it there is an increased chance that you will kill your self out of frustration.

Very pretty, but watch out for the crazy difficulty curve...
Rent it, or buy second hand if you can.

The hardest game I've ever played.

If you look for a messy challenge, go for it. If I had an X360, I would probably buy Ninja Gaiden 2 before anything else.

If you like hard games that require you to be good at playing them to succeed, don't buy it.

If you like games that require you to be prescient to succeed, it might be your cup of tea.

Seriously though, I can appreciate the appeal of hard games. The sense of accomplishment you feel when you when you overcome a challenge is directly proportional to its difficulty. This is why Ninja Gaiden 2 is so aggravating. If succeeding at it were merely a case of having quick reactions, skill and a dash of luck, that would be one thing, but NG2 is designed in such a way that you're constantly fighting with the camera, and trying to dodge projectile thrown from off screen. In my mind, NG2 isn't a hard game, it's a poorly designed one and that's a very different thing.

To put it in a different context, imagine a very hard puzzle. The clues are cryptic and requite lateral thinking just interpret, and then piecing the whole thing together requires you to think through the twisted logic of the puzzle creator. When you finally solve that puzzle, you feel amazing, because it was so intensely difficult.

Now imagine trying to solve that puzzle if one of the clues were wrong. That's Ninja Gaiden 2

rent it?, you ninja dog!
Perhaps I should clarify my first point.

The game takes two days to beat, and that's not on mild. The experience is repetitive and the gameplay is only so/so. Getting new weapons is fun of course, but you'll honestly probably have two that are your favorites, two more that are okay, and the rest just gather dust. Also, the gameplay is not highly altered by swapping out your weaponry.

The bosses aren't "challenging" so much as they are "annoying". Just as a for instance, near the end, there is a boss who uses tentacles to stand up higher than you can reach, so for the bulk of the fight, you just dodge around. He can stay up like that for minutes at a time, only coming down to get hit once, and then back up again for another few minutes. That isn't fun anymore. It's not hard, it's just drawn out, tedious dodging.

The storyline is pitiful, and that's if you thought the first game's story was good. If you thought the first one was laughable, this is.... well I can't even think of a word. Every character in the game, including Ryu, is annoying.

There is virtually zero replay value. I played Ninja Gaiden 1 several times through, because I really enjoyed the gameplay. I almost didn't make it through the second one on my first go, because I was so bored by the end. I certainly wouldn't play it again.

Rental.

haha, fair dues, you make a valid argument esquire! *tips hat*

I'm one of those obsesives that want to master all weapons, and get THAT elusive perfect score, its why I still play RE4 mercenaries.
