Remember you quoted me talking about some neutral party going to the other side. That wasn't about Nintendo, the situation doesn't even apply to them, that was in response to people 'worrying' about driving people to the other side.
In that case sorry about the misunderstanding. Still keep in mind that it might become harder to convince people to support more pressing causes if they have been "burned" over a minor issue before.

I know you're trying to be nice but it is not an okay thing to say "gays"
I have been told on multiple occasions by multiple LGBT people within the last 2 years that this is a preferred term. Has that changed? Did I misunderstand?

I am not attacking you or anything about this, I genuinely want to know. I care a great deal about LGBT rights and I would like to do my very best to avoid offensive speech.

I think it's just one of those things that varies between locations and groups. Recently I've been hearing the phrase "Queer Alliance" being used somewhat regularly, despite the fact that in some places "queer" is still considered a pretty intense slur - whether or not you aren't straight.

Yeah, the people around me consider "queer" a really bad insult, basically a gender identity slur. The homophobic equivalent of the N word. I can't see black people naming a rights activist group "N**** Alliance". It must be a regional thing.

I tend to think it makes gay people sound like a race, or like we come from a country or something. "Americans, the British, the Gays..." But like the commenter below me said, it could well be a region thing. I know where I'm in it's quite a sad thing to say. The acceptance of it as a term could be well different elsewhere, definitely.

I don't feel like you're attacking me, you're being very polite! :)
