I'm confuse ... isn't the 3DS doing damn fine? Shrinking handheld market? I hate this man for just being a well paid flamer. His job is to troll and to say nasty things that sound smart. That or put a spin on trends and charts, but in reality have very little actuality to justify the core of the statements made.

Also ... the "I" word. Again. Innovation Innovation Innovation RAMS Innovation Innovation SUPAR GRAPHICS Innovation!
Seriosuly do us all a favor and STFU Pachter. Go curl up in a whole far away from civilization and broadband access.

Actually more RAM is very good for innovation indeed. More RAM means the game can do more stuff at once, it means bigger and more complex environments, more intelligent AI, more elaborate gameplay, aswell as the benefits it has for graphics such as allowing higher resolutions and better simulationof particle effects.

These consoles do have a fair hunk of memory to play with and it should, hopefully, push gaming forward.

Or probably not though.

HOLY SHIT NO WAY! The PC already underwent a massive resurgence years ago. He's predicting things that already happened.

So he can predict the PAST? That's kind of a useless trait in a analyst :/

I'm all for discourse, and there's no love lost between me and nintendo, but this is coming across as borderline unprofessional. others have already expressed the appropriate level of disbelief, I just wanted to chime in with the majority.

You can embed YouTube videos by encasing the link in brackets "[]" and then what you do is you remove the beginning part of the url until it's just "youtube" and for the back part you delete everything until the "=" sign.

Analyst calls out Satoru Iwata for weak sales of the Wii U and failing to capitalize on the phone and tablet market.

Game industry analyst Michael Pachter had harsh words for Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata and his company's "underwhelming" Wii U sales. "I don't know why Iwata is still employed," the Wedbush Securities analyst said at the Game Monetization USA Summit, held this week in San Francisco. While he conceded that it was possible for new software to get people interested in the Wii U again, he ultimately predicted at most 30 million units sold over its lifetime, compared with predicted lifetime sales of 100 million to 120 million for the PS4 and 90 million to 110 million for the Xbox One.

He also scolded Nintendo for not taking advantage of the mobile phone and tablet market, particularly with the shrinking audience for handheld systems. Pachter advised Nintendo putting Game Boy Advance games up as free downloads on mobile markets as well as offering more recent DS titles for between $3 and $5. This wouldn't just lead to more money for Nintendo but would create greater interest in their brands, he said.

As you might have guessed from Pachter's sales figures, he had much nicer things to say about Sony's new console. "The graphics are phenomenal, and the huge RAM makes future innovation likely," he said. The biggest point in its favor, though, is that it comes in at $100 cheaper than the Xbox One. "The reason Sony beats Microsoft is solely the price," he said. "Microsoft loses the next generation unless they cut price. If Microsoft drops its price to $399, I expect the sales to be equal to the PS4." Despite this praise, he predicted the current generation of consoles to be the last, saying the future will hold more frequent model updates as opposed to new platforms. He also expects a renewed interest in the PC platform as time goes on.

No offense intended but how is this 'news'. Does every washed up, moron analyst get a news story? Iwata and Nintendo have made mistakes, but what has this loser ever done but criticize? Has he helped developed acclaimed games or systems that change and reinvent the industry?

I'd like to request a ban on any stories from Pachter. He's rarely right, and attention hog, and extremely disrespectful, especially to a great man like Iwata.

Urrrrggggg... Look i like tech as much as the next guy but this generation will play out like this last generation did;

Yeah it's obvious he's just throwing around a bunch of buzz words. Honestly the big increase in RAM will make development easier and allow for more ambitious efforts, but this still doesn't exactly equate to innovation.
