Let's get one thing straight, Nintendo. I don't care what art style you use as long as the game is a blast to play. Deal?

I really actually like this new look. I was a tad disappointed seeing it at first, though it's definitely grown on me... Maybe because I just started using water colours again, hey?? :)

Zelda is Zelda, and Zelda means fun. I'll be getting this game no matter what the art style.

I'm trying to interpret what Aonuma meant though... Does me mean that many of the poses have to be exaggerated? Such as a giant frog warrior raising his hammer dramatically above his head for a bone-crushing blow, leaving a very conspicuous stab-space right into its stomach? I can kind of see what he's getting at... Zelda has always been about the aesthetics (for me and the designers, anyway).

But i'm worried they'll once again make all the enemies too easy and too goofy looking to take seriously. Those pig warriors are so ugly I just want to kill them to get them off the screen... At least the bulblins from TP were pretty cool.

They said they were going to be changing things up in this game, from the standard LoZ formula. The game looks beautiful and I will buy it, no doubt; but I seriously hope the art design is not the only serious change they made.

Im also accespting of the fact that there will probably be a shit strom of people who disagree with me...

And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Skyward Sword's "water color" art style was chosen because it makes the game better, says producer Eiji Aonuma

Also this is the best statement ever. "Its bettererer", the best arguement i could ever hear. Im convinced. Bens right, zelda isnt serious, its hacky puzzly boomerangy fun times, you hit the switch you stab the eye you take the heart container and repeat.

A fair enough reasoning. Pity it won't make release this year with Mario and Metroid, but are what you gonna do?

Cel-Shading is about all the Wii can really do to keep up these days. And it is awesome. I've always liked it.

After twilight princess LOZ would have to completely change in order to make me interested again. Its just the same every time, round and round we go beating ganon and saving a useless princess every damn time like some sort of reoccurring nightmare.
How did you learn the twist of the next Zelda????!!!

You know, they could have just said, "...we wanted it to look like a water-color in motion..." and I would have been down with it. If it helps gameplay, great. I just have the feeling they're saying this just to have something to say against the nay-sayers, know what I'm saying?

And nothing is wrong with that. Look at all the other games.

You shoot the guys, get new weapons, get the coveted thing, watch a cutscene, repeat.
You beat up the enemy, get new powers, beat the boss, watch a cutscene, repeat.
You beat the enemies, level up, beat the boss, watch a cutscene, repeat.
You go on missions, get new weapons, finish an area, watch a cutscene, repeat.
You command a party, build things, unlock capabilities, destroy the enemy, repeat.
You control a team, build your skills, beat other teams, win the final, repeat.

Zelda is good clean fun, that's right. Built on a long tradition, it really shouldn't change too fundamentally at any one time. And looking back, the gameplay has changed and evolved in many ways, though the concept is essentially the same. A new concept isn't as important as a great execution, am I right? :)

I certainly didn't have a problem with the art style before, but if it makes the gameplay better? Well then, so be it!

Why were people complaining about this art style? Because it had actual color?
Sometimes people complain just for the sake of complaining.

I like the new style. More color is a good thing.

this series has been eaten, digested, regurgitated, and remade enough times, its now just crap, it was good, and fun, but polished crap still stinks (im not dissing the zelda series, their games are fun, but enough is enough, thing of something else please)

I think he meant that it was brighter so that you could see what you were doing better. Take the plants from the demo, bright color contrast between the inside of its mouth and its exterior helps show which way to cut.

I think the demo had bulbins and not pig guys so hopefully the bulbins are back in as I preferred them too.

I've always liked the more cartoony-styled games anyway. For some odd reason developers all over the world are obsessed with trying to get photorealism out of their games, it all started with the advent of 3D. Well, guess what? You just CAN'T get photorealism, even with the technology today. Yeah Heavy Rain was an impressive feat of technology, but it was still incredibly creepy to look at - and time is not going to treat that game well. And it just gets worse: look at games made ten years ago that tried to be as realistic as possible. They look AWFUL.

Lets rewind to 2002. Let's compare Wind Waker and Medal of Honor: Frontline, both huge games that were released that year. Wind Waker's art style may have gotten a lot of flack at the time (most complaints were filed by idiots) but play the game today. Its cartoony style is timeless. No matter how many years will pass it will never look fake, because it never tried to look real. But as for Medal of Honor, just try going into D-Day without being creeped out by the animated blurry corpses who are your squad mates.

The style looked rather plain to me in the E3 demo, so I hope the actual game takes better advantage of it. With some hot colored lighting and stuff.

QFT. Interpretation of life > imitation of life; every time.

As for Skyward Sword...
Very pretty: Check.
Different from it's generic fantasy "wannabe-photorealistic" competitors: Check.
Probably enforced by the Wii's technological limits: Check.
(Still makes me consider buying a Wii, though...)

There's no doubt that the new Zelda game looks good, it's just that after seeing what they could do with Twilight Princess I was expecting much more from the next one in the series. I've never liked cel-shading, always felt like it was kind of a cop out. Although I admit it can be timeless, no matter how much time passes, Wind Waker is still fun.

I just really loved the art and style of Twilight Princess, it's probably my favorite game in the series simply for that. Oh well, I'll play it and love it all the same.

Still, I can't help wondering why exactly does a realistic sword fighting system call for exaggerated colors, and less mid tones.

Meh, I just want to see what they can really do with the Wii, Twilight princess was beautiful and that was with the Gamecube. That's my only gripe. Skyward sword still looks awesome though.

Personally, I find this art style charming. It's like a mix between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, with just a dash of Oot. It also reassures me that Zelsa won't turn into an M-rated series. Zelda is not hardcore- it's about imagination and boy scout-esque heroism. M-rated Metroid? Sure. M-rated Zelda? No. I loved Twilight Princess, and I don't mind Zelda covering dark material (Majora's Mask was fantastic), but I'm glad to see Zelda returning to it's roots.

This is what I wished Twilight Princess looked like...

At first I was very skeptical with Wind Waker because of the style, now it just feels natural for a Zelda game. Of course course, I still hope they can fine the sweet spot between cartoon and realism, I don't think they've hit the sweet spot yet.

I'm willing to wait for their new console for it though. Not that I'd buy the console though, I doubt Nintendo is capable of admitting to their mistakes and fixing their problems. But of course they're making a crap-load of money off the casual audience, so I'll let them get away with it for now.

Back OT: I hope the game is successful even though I'll never play it, I don't want Zelda to die yet.

Here's to holding out for the impossible! :D
