No, we don't want our favorite genre's to change in such a radical way that they aren't even recognizable anymore. FF XIII is a good example of this and making DQ into a Dress up mulitplayer RPG with real time combat is another good example of this.

well yeah the changes in FF have been awesome and at least no one can say they are all the same (even though they do).

Even still, DQIX is a JRPG, it is easily recognizable as a JRPG, you can change your characters look with different armour therefore it must automatically be a dress up game...it has no realtime combat, I guarantee that most JRPG fans enjoy DQIX because it's a good game, we need to break out of genre and DQ hasn't done anything new until VIII came out, it's about time we got something new and if you think that nothing has to change and we can stagnate in the same games for eternity without adding changes then there is something wrong with you.

the biggest complaint i hear about JRPG's is that they are all so similar. but when a company tries to change things up fans cry foul because its not what they are used to. damned if they do, damned if they don't. seems like nintendo is almost fed up with traditional north american JRPG fans so they are trying a different demographic. and i, for one, actually liked the changes in FFXIII. it made the non-boss battles actually enjoyable rather then hold X til everything is dead, heal up outside of battle, rinse and repeat.

Maybe you missed the part where I said that they WANTED to make DQ IX with real time combat. See, you are giving them credit for not doing it but ignoring that they wanted to do it.

As for the dress up, it's a little more than just armor ya know. Besides, having a generic party is part of the whole customize your character and play mutliplayer BS that most JRPG fans couldn't care less about. I realize that appealing to 12 year old girls is more important than appealing to traditional DQ and JRPG fans because after all, 12 year old girls are big spenders.

It's not a little more than just armour, yes you can get bunny ears or whatever but they still serve as armour and it looks a lot better than just having the same generic clothes over and over again, especially as the game is about customisation. DQIX is as much about dress up as Oblivion is. I bet that a lot of JRPG fans like Monster Hunter, well DQIX is the JRPG version of Monster Hunter, you meet up with your friends in your new classes and unique looks and kill monsters...what JRPG fan doesn't like that? It isn't like you have to play multiplayer anyway, you get a great game out of it either way and lets be fair, it isn't like there are no characters and story, it's just the playable ones that don't get attention, much like the main character in VIII.

Yes...12 year olds are certainly big spenders...:s what the hell? The advertising was at new audiences because Nintendo knew that all the original DQ fans will want this game, they were just showing that other people can enjoy it too, which they can and if you don't think that the game appeals to old-school fans maybe you should go back to the SNES and never buy another console again (my friend has done just this and he's an idiot about things), stop complaining about little changes, DQIX is as much Dragon Quest as the original was and just because it's a little different you get your fanboy spikes up and complain because it isnt the exactly the same as your favourite in the series.

Wow guys, really? I would have LOVED to have gone to one of these at any age! Slumber parties were awesome, and we played all sorts of stuff at them - board games, video games, dress up, you name it. I seem to remember loving Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy at a young age despite not being male, middle-aged, or even a teenager.

The absolute crap being marketed to the young female audience is really that. Some of it not as bad (ie Petz, Imagine, etc) but the majority of young females I see buying DS games is the same stuff everyone else buys for the system. Puzzle games, platformers, rpgs, and so on.

A 12 year old girl enjoying a Dragon Quest game of ANY sort is not an unusual thing, nor an anomaly. Just because YOU aren't a 12 year old girl and you enjoy it doesn't mean that they can't as well.

This is not creepy, alarming, unusual, or new. Get over yourselves.

Not really have you ever played the orignal ones like say three which has a very similar idea IE: customizable heroes and allys.

If by you mean Dragon Warrior then yes, DW3 was one of the first JRPGs I ever played, but this doesn't feel like a Dragon Quest game to me.
