Nintendo Holds Pre-Teen Slumber Party for Dragon Quest IX

Well you know what the creepiest thing about this is... Nintendo doing a slumber party promotional event for 12 year old girls and the internet thinking that it is in fact, creepy. Like between the Pedo Bear, Chris Hanson, and crazy Japanese meme's we're all too familiar with does the basic involvement of young girls at a slumber party make one think that it's sexually devious in nature? I mean what the hell does that say about us?

Well not us as in myself, I just thought it was funny promo combining pre-teen girls and Dragon Quest, but us as in the general gaming community.

2) Everything after 3 hasn't been as good (albeit I've only played half of one game afterwards, but I'm a fanboy so I can say whatever I want).

3) Needs more Dragon Warrior Monsters. Those games were 10x better at being Pokemon games than Pokemon was, yet they never sold. I didn't find a single person I could link cable to back when I had my GBC. Now I play them on my GBA so I can't link either

Three was one of the best, right behind 8 on the PS2. And they did Monsters Joker on DS, but it kinda sucked. One of the only games I sold back to Gamestop, since normally I hoard them in case I want to play again later. It was really repetitive, even by DQ standards, and had little replay value.

What's wrong with some of you guys talking about how these games are kiddy and so forth didn't we all play these games when we were twelve?

I'm glad someone else is thinking this.

I can understand having a promotional party, but why 12 year old's who probably dont know what dragon quest is, let alone be interested in Dragon Quest IX?

This is precisely the reason they're doing it. The point of marketing and marketing stunts like this isn't to inform or excite the existing players, but to get new people to buy it. They think that the more social aspects in the game will appeal to this demographic, but realise that unless given the oppotunity, they are never going to give it a try. The hope is that some of the kids will enjoy it and will tell their friends who will then buy it. This will increase not only the sales for DQIX, but also increase the player base for future releases.

The only problem with this marketing idea is the 2 results are in the extremes. It will either be a massive hit as the plan works, or it will fall on its arse if the mainstream media catch a sight of it and decide its creepy. Personally, I think this idea is a stroke of genius and the only reason people think its creepy is because everyone automatically assumes the worst and looks too deeply into these situations.

People are directing it that way because it is wierd.

If you wanted to market something normally, you'd point it to a demographic and try and show how the product is good based on their likings.

If you want to broaden that horizon, you're more than inclined to do so. Nothing says you cant try and sell this to an older or younger generation, or a different race or gender. But there are better ways to do it then a slumber party for 12 year olds. Which is just wierd; because you will get almost NO good publicity from it. It will just make people go "Wtf, who the hell thought that would be a good idea?". I doubt little girls will buy this because of one sponsored slumber party. I doubt the little girls at the party will even play the game after the check Nintendo gives them clears. And it certainly doesnt make me want to play the either.

There is a difference between successful advertising, and trying to get attention by pulling a dumb stunt for attention. This is a dumb stunt. This does nothing to push the product, and, as you can see from the general population here... people just think its down right creepy.
