Nintendogs Blamed for Enticing Real Dog to Attack Child

Video games made my dog attack my daughter. Ban them! I left a soccer ball on the ground and slipped over it. Ban them! I got electrocuted from a power outlet. Ban them!

Anything you do in life has associated risks, no matter how dismal the chances of that risk coming into fruition is. Out of a sample size of 7 billion people across the globe, atleast 1 person is going to get bitten...

AGAIN.

I WISH people, especially the media, would stop blaming things on video gaming, when there are other, higher-ranking things related to this.
Dog = FUCKING MASSIVE. Problem 1
Dog = NOT TRAINED AROUND LITTLE KIDS. Problem 2
Parents = NOT WILLING TO TAKE BLAME. Problem 3 (the major one, because that proves the parents are afraid of responsibility)

Ta-DAH.
3 larger problems found.
Anyone wish to contribute to this list?

EDIT: To the 6 or so people so far that wave quoted me, thank you, especially the one that said 'Couldn't have put it better myself' (or something very much like that)

Now, can you please not quote me? Logging on to see that 2 more people quoting me is nice, but on the same topic?
Jeez, it's like the quote button's broken people's minds and MADE them quote me.
In case you didn't notice, I don't like attention.

ALL.
4. The grandmother. Elderly people will always have a grudge against anything more technologically advanced than an egg-timer because they think that stuff is stupid and it makes our generation "lazy." My dad is a prime example.

Dog owners need to train their damn pets better and parents stop trying to shrug the guilt of your inability to monitor your own children into the convenient targets, if you don't have the time/money/dedication to be a parent... don't breed, you sacks of flesh!

As for this specific case, here's how I'd place the blame:

50% Unfortunate coincidence;
30% Lack of Parental attention;
20% Lack of appropriate training on the dog in question;

As for the grandmother's "VIDEOGAMES DIDEET!" a la red-neck-ish reaction, I only have this to say:

"Madam, those of your kin and similar behaviour at times make me ponder my stand on disabling the breeding capacities of the common peasant, against my better judgement"

Yeah. I hate dogs, they can all go die, and this story has just reaffirmed that hate.

It wasn't the games fault though, of course. It's just stupid barbaric dog nature. She could have been watching a tv show about dogs. The only reason it went for her is because it was on her lap where the bark came from.
Ok mr/ms biased. Dogs are actually much more domesticated than say a cat or a guinea pig. The only reason dogs ever attack people is because the are treated wrong, just like every other animal. Also I calling BS on the assumption that the dog in the game made the bull mastif attack. Everyone knows (or should know) that a crappy sound (it lacks the depth of an actual dog bark) will not sound like a bark to a real dog. That dog was ticked off for some other reason. Keeping a dog takes responsibility, many people lack that responsibility.

Yeah. Blame videogames. The best way to detract from bad parenting is to blame something else. When my cousins, my brother and I were younger, we used to visit my grandfather a lot and he had two dogs, Flash and Hunter. (I think they were pointers but I can't remember) and as a rule, my grandfather used to take the dogs with him if he had to leave a room as he didn't trust dogs with children without an adult present in the room as dogs can turn at any time, even if they are docile like Hunter and Flash were. This was a Bull mastiff left with a nine year old who had no way of defending herself. Don't blame videogames on stupidity people.

What a bunch of hogwash. I'm gonna sue Discovery Channel next time a lion comes to maul me because there was a gazelle on screen.

Aaah it's so infuriating :mad:

I could of sworn my family knew a Walker family with a girl called Megan... could be same person.

Eh, it could be the Girl's fault and she really shouldn't of been in same room with the dog alone.

Nintendogs has been around for years. If it was truly because of the game surely there'd be plenty more similar incidents.

Very odd situation, but the blame is again going the wrong way.
Some blame the dog, some blame the game. I blame the kid. If she wouldn't have made the in-game dog barked, her lip wouldn't be in doggy digestion. It is all her fault. The dog is mentally challenged and couldn't help himself.

It is Super Mario's fault. If he wouldn't have saved video gaming, the girl would not have been playing a video game (since they wouldn't exist), and thus the dog would not have attacked her.

Oh boy, more crap about how videogames endanger children -_- Seriously, how the hell is this Nintendo's fault at all. "The game barked and the dog attacked" ok then, the DS does have volume control and common sense should have told the girl "Hey if this game barks that massive dog might come over here and do something." More proof that videogames don't injure people, personal retardation injures people.

As soon as I read "Daily Mail" I quit reading. I don't pay attention to anything that comes from them.

It's the owner's responsibility, and especially the girl's if she did kick it first. Either way, the grandmother is a friggin' idiot.

It's not the fault of the game, it's the psychological profile of the animal. Dogs react to the sound of other dogs barking, sometimes by barking back as a form of communication other times aggressively.
