The experiment you mentioned is, quite frankly, terrible. No one would be that affected by video games. At most, they would have a rise in aggressive thoughts. There is a correlation between people playing violent video games and violent tendencies. However, as any University student knows, Correlation =/= causation. The odds are that people with violent tendencies tend to play violent games.

The evidence you've provided is just as inconsequential as the evidence that those you lambaste have provided. The experiment you have written about is merely anecdotal, unless the experiment has been published some where, writing about it was pretty much pointless (and if it has been published, well then fair enough).

If you regularly check the escapist news section you'll note that every four months or so a new study is finished, some state that there is little to no link between video games and violence where as other state that there is a link. It is still pretty much unknown if there is a link between media and violence in people.

I do though believe that there is a certain scapegoating on the games industry, with nearly no other form of media being singled out/ added as contributing factors when ever a violent crime is reported. I guess this is usually done because of the "interactive" nature of games.
I agree. A test like this is in no way conclusive, but videogames definitely are scapegoats.

like grayfox said it's a scapgoat. if they didn't blame games they'ed only blame something else.
More to the point they'd know they had only themselves to blame.
As most high-school teachers will tell you, that's the very last thing a lot of parents will do. Never underestimate a parent's talent for self-denial.

People use bullshit reasons to prove their point, like the 'I'm older than you so I understand more."

Or the, "I'm an expert in this field of study, granting me clairvoyant knowledge of things nobody else could know about, like how bad a game is."

The fact that news channels don't get educated gamers to come to a board for a debate proves that they're covering their ears and saying "LALALALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"

No wait, the other thing.
You actually just made me laugh out loud in the office.
If I could get a cookie to you I would.

As with many scapegoats, the people who blame them are ill informed and want to vent on something.

It's funny how television itself doesn't get any heat but games do. At least games require interaction and a degree of hand-eye co-ordination.

It's because Video Games are the new babysitter. Kids today learn more from them than from their lazy / busy parents. Parents are always going to blame whatever it is that occupies their child's time... Video Games, WWE, TV, Music.... You name it... if the kid likes it more than the kid's parents, chances are it's the spawn of satan.

What do you mean she provided no evidence? She spoke from personal experience of her shock and trauma at seeing a young person leaving a library playing a DS. That's clearly evidence. (sarcasm)

Linky to the experiment you talked about maybe?

People are looking for something to blame for all the troubles in the world, they'd blame Video Gaming for AIDS if we all didnt know it was the homosexuals. [/sarcasm]

Video gaming is the new scapegoat at the moment, we just gotta tough it out and be safe in the knowledge we're cooler than the fuckballs who think they're right because they're parents or saw a videogame back in the 80s and now think they know everything.

Well why don't they then?
because they'd have to admit they were wrong and thats the last thing they want to do
