Better than nothing? Sold! I can not stop throwing money at the screen right now.
When the developer of the game himself says that the game is "better than nothing", then there's no way I am not buying something that must be THAT good.
Hell, I'm doing nothing right now! If Inafune is offering me a better experience, then I need to get in on this action.

Gah, beat me to it.

I somehow think this is actually a mis-translation or there is something lost in the translation.

That is probably a "lost in translation" thing.
I don't even think it is, I think it's a "let's portray this ambiguous statement as negatively as we can for the views" thing.

"It's better than nothing" is frequently associated with negative things in English, true, but that's not its exclusive use, and I hardly think a developer is going to toss out a game they know is bad and say, "well, it's better than nothing, so shut up and take it you ungrateful bastards!" Given the actual context of the quote, it's most certainly a humble, "I'd rather have this thing which isn't the best it could be than nothing at all" statement.

But hey, that would mean not getting angry about video games (and also reading more than just an article's title before posting), and we can't have that!
People are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on the translation if you read the thread(but that would require more than finding comments that let you indirectly trash a piece), but let's be honest, the game looks about five years out of date in Unity when it's been made on the newest Unreal, Comcept hasn't really been forthcoming on pretty much any delay until it became a roaring from the fanbase they couldn't ignore, and it can't decide what it wants to be gameplay-wise, fast-paced action or slow/medium-paced caution and figuring out the patterns. Nothing wrong with the former, but it isn't MegaMan and it has a love of pretending to be an arena shooter in addition to all that. Not to mention the backers didn't get their copies until the last couple days, about two weeks after reviewers and streamers got it.

The whole project has honestly just been one big "FUCK YOU" to the backers and fanbase every other step of the way. I mean for fucks sake, the Sonic fanbase has started saying "our mascot's game's suck, but at least we're not MegaMan fans". That's something that shouldn't have EVER happened.

It's not people wanting to get angry for no reason, it's people having multiple examples of good reasons to get angry that they've largely kept in check that this comment has sorta tipped over the boiling point. And the icing on the cake is that there's been better MegaMan successors made by smaller teams on shoestring budgets in half the time it's taken for MN9 to get to their first delay.

"The reality is they put everything into making this game," Inafune said through a translator, Comcept's Ben Judd. "They didn't try to microtransaction it out, they didn't try to DLC it out for extra money. They put it all in."
There was nothing to DLC for extra money. the enture game looks like babys first game project.

"But, again, we can hope that if things go well, there'll be sequels. Because I'll tell you what, I'm not getting my 2D side-scrolling fill. And at the end of the day, even if it's not perfect, it's better than nothing. At least, that's my opinion."

Earlier this month, Inafune was already discussing a sequel [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/167678-Inafune-is-Already-Considering-a-Mighty-No-9-Sequel], saying that says that development on a sequel is "already in our minds," with the mindset of "we'll do it even if it doesn't sell."
Ill pray to whatever god he believes in to not have any more sequels to this.

but the gaming fandom have been complete gibbering howler monkeys at the whole thing. 'Oh no, they hired a woman as community manager and she's clearly going to change the game in a variety of ways we hate, because that's what community managers do'. 'Oh no, the trailer had a joke at anime fan's expense, and despite the fact it was from a company that obviously like anime, given they tried to kickstart one, and the fact that we will regularly decry those hated 'SJW's' for being offended too easily, we will shit a brick, and yell about our hurt feelings, with no sense of irony whatsoever'.

I mean the game does look pretty terrible, and it hasn't reviewed well, but that almost seems like it's what gamers wanted at this point, so their bitching and moaning could be vindicated.
And back in the real world:

Oh no they hired PR person simply for being lead developers GF which then proceeded to insult backers and fans on twitter and admitted to never even playing MegaMan game before.

Oh no the trailer looked like it belonged on Greenlight to be laughed out of the court.

Oh no the final product is somehow worse than those shitty flash games youll find on newgrounds, free.

Well, they did pretty much announce right after one of the delays they were releasing a remastered collection of the original games, so I wouldn't be surprised. Can get it on steam for like ten bucks too. Pretty cheap if you ask me for what you're getting. If you like platformers that is.
Legacy collection is a prime example of Capcom being shit, its the same as Mega Man Anniversary Collection from 2004 but with four less games. If anyone wants retro Megaman, skip Legacy and get Anniversary for like ten bucks on Amazon.

I must disagree, Mr. Inafune.

At least Bloodstained appears to be solid based on its E3 demo.

"They didn't try to microtransaction it out, they didn't try to DLC it out for extra money. They put it all in." Yeah, like Splatoon or The Withcer III that have paid DLC, yet have lots of free content since launch. Also extra money? Didn't the Kickstarters had stretch goals

"Better than nothng" I'll give the benefit of the doubt that something may have been lost in translation, but to the english version of that sentencce, no, it isn't better than nothing.

Smells like bad translation but surely the escapist wouldn't gobble that up for sensationalist headlines now, would they?

I just looked at the Xbone store and saw that game has 3 character skins, and 1 "expansion." In the expansion, you get a separate story to play through, as well as a new character to play as in the original game for 5 bucks. So ya, they're full of shit. Sure, those skins are probably just codes for the backers, since I couldn't see a price on the store page, but a whole new character with it's own abilities and a new story to play through is absolutely DLC for extra money. And the download is almost a gig, so they definitely didn't "put it all in" as they claim.

They put everything they had in to it (which was a lot of money), and it still came out like ass? And he still wants to to continue even if it doesn't make money? I hope this guy is taking many notes on how to improve on it all, otherwise nothing would've been a lot better.

This whole debacle is just begging for a George "Super Bunnyhop" Weidman video about what went wrong.

I mean... poor communication, constant delays, the community manager from hell, and a developer who seems to be utterly blind to all the controversy surrounding his thoroughly average game.

True. Something is better than nothing. Pity games like Azure Striker Gunvolt and 20XX don't exist, or his original works weren't recently re-released as some sort of MegaMan Legacy Collection or currently available on Nintendo's WiiU/DS shop, because that could be rather embarrassing for him.

Just like there was something lost in translation when he insulted Kickstarter backers not long ago? No, Inafune's attitude towards this whole process went from humble game designer who wanted to revive a beloved franchise he was unfairly separated from, to being a total goddamned diva about the entire process. The proof of those brass balls was right there in the whole Red Ash incident.

Sure, gamers can be jerks, but when they donate $4 million bucks for you to get your project off the ground, you could stand to handle it with a little more grace and dignity.
