I am probably going to sound like an idiot here, but my understanding of the arbitrary charge MS sticks on additional patches is to cover the bandwidth cost of all their users downloading said patch, so wouldn't it make more sense to just charge developers on a sort of royalty-fee system everytime someone downloads a patch rather than demanding £40,000 upfront for a patch that might only be downloaded by a handful of users?

I got the PS3 version day one and I never really noticed any major problems with it.
the only one I can think of off the top of my head is that once while playing SH3 the sound completely cut out. But it only happened once and was easily fixed by resetting the game.

Regardless of Microsoft's part in this (that can be debated for days), this is still a bullshit stance for a company to make. You can't fix one version of the game, then tell people who bought the other version that they are screwed. I would be a bit more understanding if they felt a need to not patch the game on any system. I'd still be irritated, but I'd accept it.

But this is just showing favoritism towards one system over the other, and strikes me as being rather unprofessional. It's not the fact that they aren't patching the 360 version in and of itself. It's the fact that they are refusing to patch the 360 version, after having already patched the PS3 version.

You think exclusive content is bad? How about exclusive patches?
Thats just spite, pure and simple. You're being selfish and saying if you can't have it, nobody should. Other people having the patch doesn't hurt you in any way, so saying they should be deprived of something so you can't have it either is just pure childish spite. This is how a 3 year old views the world.
You looking at it totally backwards. thebobmaster is not saying that the PS3 shouldn't have the patch. Quite the opposite, that they both should have the patch no matter what the circumstances are.

I think people are unfairly blaming Microsoft patching policy. Sony charges ~$.16/ per gigabyte bandwidth to developers, Microsoft is usually free on Digital release and DLC/addon stuff for developers. However to keep XBL downloads fast and reliable for users, it doesn't want companies to keep patching their games, they want developers to get it right the first time. So the fees are a little bit heavier for non-critical game patches. FEZ update was deem uncritical because it happen to less than .8% of users.

Silent Hill is really the last franchise that needs to be in HD. The gritty, grainy, low res nature of it's graphics only adds to the atmosphere.

Stick with your original PS2 versions guys, there's absolutely no reason to buy this "collection" and there never has been.

EDIT: Also, I'm totally fed up with that "There was a HOLE here. It's gone now" picture being in EVERY Escapist news post about Silent Hill.
what about the xbox port of silent hill 2? Is that any good?
Yes, absolutely. The Xbox version of Silent Hill 2 is a straight up port of the PS2 Directors Cut version and includes an additional scenario for one of the characters.

However there have been some reported problems with the Xbox version if played on a 360. I never tried it myself but apparently some of the textures don't load in properly and it can really ruin the experience.

You're right. It doesn't hurt me, because I didn't buy the game. You know who it does hurt? Every single person who bought it on the 360. I'm assuming you either don't own it, or you have the PS3 version.

It's not spite. I'm not saying "If I can't have it, no one can!". I'm saying that if they release a game that they know is not working properly, then they should either fix it on all of the systems it is available on, or none of them.

To give you an idea of what I mean, let's take, for example, Bioshock, available on the PC and 360. Would you be fine if there was a bug in the game that made it crash at around the halfway point, and 2K Games fixed that bug on the 360, but not the PC, saying the plans to fix it were cancelled due to "technical resources and issues"? Because that's exactly what Konami did, and that's what I have a problem with.

Compared to finding a fix for the issue and creating said fix, is it really that much more technically complicated to make it work for all versions of the game, not just one port?

Ahh, Catch-22, the best catch there is.

No-one bought the game because it was buggy and broken, and because no-one bought it it doesn't make economic sense to fix the thing that made people not buy it in the first place.

I've got the 360 version and not had any big problems whatsoever. Not even much issue with lip syncing. I feel sorry for those out there who are having problems though.

And those people out there saying 'Get the PS2 version', yeah, not all of us have PS2s (shocking I know) and I don't really want to get a whole new console just for 1 game.

But the 360 fix isn't going to happen, okay? Stop acting like denying the patch to 360 owners is them deliberately spiting them. We are starting from a position of "there will be no patch for the 360 version". All thebobmaster is doing is denying that anyone get a patch out of some warped view of fairness.
I'm sorry but you are a complete idiot.

He wasn't saying no one should have it, he was saying it is bad business practice to give it to one portion of the customer base but not the other. All of the customers paid good money for the game, but only a certain few of them are getting what they paid for.

That is completely immoral, and thebobmaster is right to call it out.
