No Right Answer: Is Game of Thrones Overrated?

I'm not gonna say why you should like this show, as you don't really have to like a show just because i do.. (SPOILERS!!)

But, i have to explain some things that you must've missed, this isn't your average show, you have to use a different mind-set to watch such a show, sorry, but i love how subtle the show is for its huge scale and character importance doesn't depend on what said characters have done, but rather about how important they are in "The Game of Thrones". (What politics is called in Westoros)

Robb Stark's death meant that the whole rebellion has ended and that what is only left of his army/followers is some stranded soldiers stealing, looting and plotting revenge on the plotters, offing a character like Arya Stark, for example, is useless to the plot, offing Arya would mean that her whole independent story comes to an end, but when you off a PLAYER (What politicians are called) you start a chain of events that are generally chaotic due to them depending on the family/allies of the player having to choose their course of action.

Let's say Robb wasn't betrayed, the war would have changed in pace and became much slower as the North needed to recover what is theirs, Winterfell and aid the Night's Watch if possible and with them holding Moat Cailin, it would've taken their enemies from the South of westoros a while to recover and attack, which meant that Stannis Baratheon would've had to deal with every other southern lord, and that the north would've had to deal with the iron islands and the wildlings.

But with Robb's crucial death, Stannis may have a better chance of escaping the south and the "iron men" could take some castles and cities that belonged to the north whilst the north is scattered, dying, plotting and forming alliances.

That's an example of how one death can change everything, plot-wise. (Whilst others died, Robb was the most important character who did die)

This isn't a show like Arrow where they'd off a character because of the emotional effect offing said character would cause and move on after a while, it's a show where one character's death is extremely important to the course of the whole story.

Again, you don't have to like it, but that's where you were pretty much incorrect and i like how the show doesn't like to treat you like a moron whom lacks sufficient braincells to understand what is happening... (As you might know by now, i love politics)

I agree 100% with this video. The TV show actually managed to be more dull with worse writing than the actual books. The books, quite possibly, have worse writing than most Dan Brown novels. They make Rowling look like Tolkien.

I didn't like the books very much. They were pretty boring. I watched an episode of it, and just shut it off.

Chris made all the points, so I have nothing to add but to say its overrated and boring.

Can we not be so adversarial when "debating" things we don't like? "I'm going to sh*t all over this thing that you like, and then you're gonna yell at me!" is not a good setup for anything even remotely meaningful to happen. It's bed when it's the implied setup for a conversation, when it's explicit it's like we're not even trying to discuss pop-culture in a meaningful way anymore. Everything has to boil down to "BEST THING EVER! NO DISCUSSION!" or "SUCKS! AND YOU SUCK FOR SUGGESTING OTHERWISE!".
I agree with this. The way I see it, no work of fiction is ever going to appeal to every single person and it's okay to not like whatever's super popular at the moment; but acting all overdramatic and hostile, like your opinion is going to blow people's minds will accomplish little more than antagonize people who do like it.

Ok... I'm probably going to be roasted alive for this but I have to speak my mind,

I'm 100% with Chris Game of thrones as a show SUCKS

I watched the first few episodes and nothing made any sense and from what ive heard from people that actually watched all 3, they basically tell me it makes no sense

Look, to me, the only reason the show exists is to give an excuse to have women show their breasts

All I see is some guy talking about something that makes no sense while to women go at it in the background...

The only reason this show is popular and it gets defended so much is because its pretty much hardcore porn that people can pretend is "Art"

Look I know i'm going to be flamed alive by all the fans of the show, and honestly whatever if you enjoy it, who am I to stop you from enjoying something you like?

Just don't tell me that the show is well written and has deep lore behind it and I should love it just as much as you do, because I don't see it anywhere, maybe I'm missing something, but I honestly don't want to sit through pornography that I find to be disgusting at times (father and daughter *shudder*) just to try to figure out what is going on

How to spot an american: Complains about sex in a sex & violence story.

Edit: Overrated = Thing that I don't like, even if most people do.
You can't deny it. Calling something overrated implies the subconscious knowledge of being a minority, with the smug self-complacence of those critics who would critize their mother if she ever appeared on the top sales lists.

This has spoilers from ASOIAF (the source material for Game of Thrones) PAST where the current adaptation is

DO NOT CLICK to avoid spoilers to A Feast for Crows and with it A LARGE amount of not the next TWO seasons certainly the current one

http://ferretbrain.com/articles/article-234

Breaks done and rebuts some of the complaints and explains them and shows how its a good story.

Buuuuuut also points out how you can rapidly sour on it, especially the longer it draws out.

You were not quite understandible at the latter half, when you started ranting really fast in a weird tone.
So I couldn't make that out. I like the show, but I never have bothered convincing people to also like stuff I like except for the friends I want to enjoy it with.

Why 2 months? Then we're at the very end but not quite of S4...
The two months is because we film in batches. We just started a batch, so we have a lot of episodes to go through before we film again. Since Chris lives 4 hours away from Kyle and Dan, batch filming is a necessity.

Also, it gives people who choose to send video clips time to create them. Visit is hard! (Dan cries into his jack and coke)
Oh I see. Thanks for the answer!
You guys often answers things in the forum; muchos gracias, amigos! :D

II await the remainder of this thread with baited breath. I've really gotten into coming on the internet to read the thoughts of people getting genuinely emotional in their defence of things they like, or what they feel is a misinterpretation of something they like.
Honestly It's not that people don't have the right to not like a show. When they take the time to make a video about it, filled with lazy armchair criticism and fairly baseless accusations about the show, I get a little miffed.

This guy doesn't even understand the basic plot of the show.
And?

I don't understand the basics plot of Geordie Shore (Well, I think I do - I think it's premise is "A bunch of glow-in-the-dark-orange people shagging"), it doesn't mean I can't make a video about how shit it is (I haven't, and wouldn't, but I totally could if I wanted).

Don't get me wrong, you're well within your rights to get uppity about said video, just know that there are cynical, acerbic people like me out there who find that to be highly amusing.
Seems like we both came here for the debate, stayed for the drama. And the Geordie Shore crack; spot on.

I'd say I'm probably more on Chris' side since I can't get into the show in spite of having friends attempt to constantly ram it down my throat.

I have zero intention of arguing whether the show is " good " / defending it as it is just porn with filler. It's a bad show with good sex scenes. I can get porn anywhere on the internet thus giving me less reason to watch it. Past this I have nothing more to add because I don't believe you can add anything more to the argument.
