They're insane. C&C is all about cheesy FMV cutscenes with Hollywood actors in a tight and well designed campaign.

Captcha: good for nothing

Exactly, Captcha. Exactly.
Captcha is fucking sentient. I'm calling Doomsday 2013.
Aww! But we just got over the last one!

"get back to the roots of what made Command & Conquer great." Building zillions of units and blasting foes is what Bioware believes this franchise is all about, and Bioware thinks a story campaign isn't integral to that experience.
But why?
I liked the single player campaigns they helped you get familiar with that nation.
I do hope its possible to play against AI instead of playing against those Hardcore-MLG-Pro-No-Fun-Players.

Also I always liked the campaign cut scenes with those B actors, those could be so funny.

C&C Generals was the game that provided me an entry into the RTS genre.

Sure I'm disappointed that EA (or whoever) did this to Generals 2 but I'm not gonna throw a tantrum and scream "YOU RUINED MY CHILDHOOD" because they didn't.

Yeah sure it may be a "sequel" to Generals but it didn't ruin the experience of the original game. If I want to experience that again I just have to put the disk into the computer and there you go.

C&C isn't ruined. It's just been put on standby until they make another good one (like Tib Wars or RA3, and don't give me that RA3 retcon B/S, for RA3 to happen ALL THE OTHER GAMES NEEDED TO HAPPEN!!!).

captcha: clean and shiny.

Well my copy of C&C Generals surely is.

I think I'll let Nick Cage show my reaction to this:

Honestly, I played C&C Generals for single player back in 2003 and I want to play it for single Player in 2012, guess that's out of the window now.

Well done EA another game for the "No" pile.

So...

I heard End of Nations should be coming out by the end of 2012. F2P MMORTS with no single player, but with coop campaing and persistent world. By Trion, so it actually could be F2P and not pay to win (they've been promising that from the start, but we know how promises work about F2P).

Anyone else wonder how does EA intend to make Generals 2 cometion worthy with EoN here in a few and SC2 long set in motion?
'Cause I have no freaking idea.

I only played Command and conquer: Tiberium wars and Kanes wrath but I did not play those games for the multiplayer. I played them for the singleplayer.

Sounds like EA is about to make yet another blunder and anger even more fans. Im surprised it took 4 pages for one of the "Stop hating on EA" people to appear though. Yes we are all jumping on a bandwagon and would otherwise love what they did with this series.

trust me, there's a reason it flew under your radar XDD twas not impressive by any means.
You might surprised on how many people now PRAISE the game. It was a different story back when it was released but I see a lot of C&C praising the bejeebus out of it.

As for anyone saying "Westwood could do better". Really? You guys have no idea where they would have taken the game. There is also this where the longer the series goes on the less the fans like it.

Free to play + RTS on the other hand sounds like a dangerous combo.
I dunno, I didn't like it much when it came out. Looking at let's plays for it on youtube I still have no love for it.
I'm not saying Westwood could have done Renegade better, but I think more time could have been spent finetuning the experience. Think it was the music that got to me the most, the subtly different C&C tracks just ate away at the back of my mind.
I dunno, maybe C&C was never meant for FPS? *shrugs*

Yeah, I get what you mean about the whole time/depreciation scale. Red Alert 3 killed my interest in seeing any more C&C titles, not because of the story, but because of the gameplay. Then again, I got the console version. Keyboard Hotkeys ftw with RTS games.

Free to play does sound a bit dangerous, which is why i'm curious to see how they pull it off. If they can pull it off and make it enjoyable then major kudos. Though, no doubt they'll find some way to make you pay for something.

RTS is the one genre where playing online isn't for a faint of heart. Its often frustrating for those without the actions per minute to enjoy the game playing multiplayer, me being one of them.

So to take the single player out of it is a move of sheer stupidity by my book. Thanks for making it impossible for the pickup and play players to enjoy the game without the scrutiny of another player.

All interest in this game for me is officially out the window.

FPS' need a single player mode, RTS' do not...absolute genius.

Who played Generals for the campaign anyway? While Tiberian had a story and so did Red Alert Generals was just an awful placeholder, I'm glad it's gone.

Generals was by no means a bad game, sure it was not as good as the Tiberium and RA timeline universes we started with but good nonetheless and still a C&C game no matter what the lot of you are saying. Sure the original took itself a tad bit too seriously but the generals challenge in the ZH expansion makes up for that.
Renegade ... well yes, nothing spectacular but again not something god-awful some of you would want us to believe. The universe as a whole has FPS potential, alas they simply did not know how to properly pull it off.

This here however, this is truly the final nail in the coffin of one C&C franchise.
To resurrect C&C as we know it would take a witchdoctor like no other.

Well... I've lost pretty much all of my remaining interest for this game. First free-to-play, then no story mode... that's just not C&C, much less "Generals 2."

Also, seriously? No story in a damn Bioware game?!?

EA is publishing the game, not making it. They pay for it to be made and take a portion of the profit it turns.

Oh look, another person blindly hating EA because it's the trend.

Who's making the game? Hmmm? Bioware.

But please, do continue screaming about how horrid EA is and blaming them for everything. I wouldn't want to stop the bandwagon.
bioware is owned by EA.

EA has as much controll over the game as there "EA Sports" devopers. So it is rather silly to say they are not makeing the game or calling the shots.

The singleplayer of C&C games has really gone downhill. I'm not going to pretend I care about command and conquer games for their solo play anymore, although it is nice to have some sort of campaign. If they can put a good focus on an immersive, traditional C&C multiplayer experience, then this isn't a dealbreaker. I hope they've learned that shit such as Tiberian Twilight was a complete mistake.

EA once again has put another dagger through the heart of the C&C franchise. I was actually interested in this game since i quite liked the first one (Even though i've found the EA only games to be rather downgraded in comparison to the good old games, i've liked generals and Red Alert 3, although the installation code bullshit RA3 had can go fuck itself) but now that they've said that, well......my interest valve has been abruptly shut, although i'll probably check it out for curiosity sake since its F2P.

I think they have the wrong intentions here in what made the series "Great".

Command and Conquer: Generals 2 will be the first to get the treatment, but other games in the series will follow. "We decided to choose Generals as the first set of games we build under the universe, but we'll be expanding after that, like Tiberium and Red Alert as well as some others as well.
aaaaand there's the bullet to the head of the franchise.

Why Bioware Why?
Did I do something wrong? Did I not buy enough DLC's?
WHY ARE YOU PUNISHING ME?!? WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?!?
