But XP was/is the best OS for playing games. It may be 9 years old but it still works fine. I have really been looking forward to JC2 but the thought of me having to buy W7 just pisses me off
XP still works but it's unsupported and therefore obsolete. I have Windows 7 now and I can say that every single game I own runs better than they ever did on XP.

My god, how old are you? 8? Spell correctly.

Also, the community's reply to Windows 7 was genuinely positive. I myself have had no problems running Windows 7 on my shitty laptop and my decent computer.

If you want to see DX10 in action then look at Funcom's demo of it using Age of Conan.

By the way, what Antivirus are you using?

Your audio lagged? In what way? Did it lag in games? When watching YouTube videos? This can be resolved with a driver update or hell a hardware update. Windows 7 is more demanding than XP.

And of course the OS is expensive. Windows XP was also expensive when it came out but since such a long time has passed since its release the prices have gone down.

OT: Who cares. The game will probably be a shitpile like the first entry.

All I can say is it's about time. I'm no fan of forced upgrading, or the dick move that MS pulled with Halo2/Shadowrun, but that was 3 years go. Things have changed, and it's time to push forward. We are on the cusp of the 64-bit era, and it's just not necessary to hold technology back anymore. We are ready to move on, and dwelling in the past isn't going to help anyone.

Good, windows XP is a terrible OS, it is outdated and designing new games for it over newer, 64bit operating systems vastly limits what can be done with it. As far as I'm concerned (as I regularly point out) it's a useless OS, it adds very little to windows 2000 and is entirely unnecessary. It completely baffles me that people are so loyal to it.

Oh, and I suppose dx10/11 should be mentioned, but I seem to recall a system where one could hack dx10 into XP, and I'm not convinced it's as significant as being able to use modern CPUs with large amounts of RAM.

Wow, PC gamers have sure had a tough time recently. It's times like this I'm glad I'm a console gamer.
You can act as smug as you like, but console games are no more capable of running 64 bit or direct x 10/11 games than a pre-vista computer, I can't imagine anyone porting a vista/7 exclusive title to any of the consoles without also porting it to XP (especially as the trend for PC ports of late has been to tack a .exe onto an xbox 360 designed game).

Gentlemen, today we put an end to Windows XP. For too long users have refused to upgrade to Vista..... For too long users have mocked the power of Vista. Now, Just Cause 2 has given us the chance to finally defeat XP and force users to upgrade. We'll be sure to rise the price of upgrading the day of launch as well.

Mua ha ha ha ha ha haaaa!

*Board room erupts with evil laughter*

(At least thats the way I see it)
I have Vista, and compared to XP, the amount of bugs and problems it has is awful. I have all of the updates and such... ah well.

I shall buy the demo now, never seen any trailers so I'm not expecting anything.

WITHHOLD YOUR EYES!

they're all forcing you to upgrade to get better games these days its a joke.
It's called "technological progression" and it's necessary for the industry. There is very little sense in holding onto an operating system that's nine years old.

For reference, that's when the PS2 and original Xbox came out and nobody is complaining about the existence of the PS3 and Xbox 360. Technology moves on and the user base needs to do so as well.
XP had decent legacy support for games (minus DOS).

Windoze 7 has terrible legacy support for anything requiring 3D acceleration. Want to play Deus Ex on 7, forget about it!

XP Virtual Machine is a joke.

Build better support for my older games, then we'll talk.

There was no XP support for Halo 2 either, but Razor1911 soon fixed that

Phew, luckily I just bought Windows 7. Although I might not like Just Cause 2. It looks it's still got the same old buggy movement the first one had.
