This entire thread hasn't had one (XP) complaint only people complaining about people complaining about lack of XP support

I wonder if they realise you CAN play Dx10 games on XP

It's not official but it is there
Was just about to say I was pretty sure there was a homebaked version of 10 for XP.

I'd care if I had reason to believe that it wouldn't be buggier than a midwestern wheatfield during a locust swarm.

Didn't Microsoft say something about Halo 2:Vista being Vista and above only. And if I remember correctly, that got cracked to work on XP.

Oh, for Christ's sake, give it a rest. I love WinXP as much as the next guy, but what do you want the industry to do? Stick themselves permanently in pre-2007 technology because you don't want to upgrade your PC?

Windows 7 is excellent. Superb, in fact. I have been using it on my laptop since the release candidate public version came out last spring, and except for the occasional minor compatibility problem with older/obscure disc-based DRM schemes (and I do mean minor---I've spent a grand total of $5 on Steam to replace the one game---Port Royale 2---that I couldn't get to run), it's been a smooth and easy transition.

It's been an awesome run with XP, but that OS is almost nine years old now. Were you still using Win98 when Vista came out?

I'm glad I switched to Win7. Judging from all the bad news for PC gaming scene these days it does seem like there is some kind of conspiracy to kill PC gaming.

Wow, you know how long it's been since I've felt the need to check my system requirements? I mean, I don't have that nice of a computer, but this is the first game in five years that I flat out do not meet the requirements for. OK kids, time to get a taste of what PC gaming was like in the 90s!
well you're still lucky, i'm stuck with an old Pentium IV...

Vista was a revolution. Unfortunately, it seems to have had a bit of a Reign of Terror. Even so, it and Windows 7 are much more streamlined than XP. When I used XP, I got a crash or bluescreen at least once a month. Since Vista and 7, which I have used from the beginning, I have only had 1 crash each. In both cases I know that I caused it myself.

XP is tyranny! Viva la Revolution!

Get 7. That has a good reputation... I actually downgraded from Vista (if you can call it that) cause I couldn't even run Oblivion. It lagged. It was horrifying. Anyway, what the hell? This again happened a little while ago, Steam had some cool space shooter pvp game for free download for a while, I downloaded the 1.1 GB thing, then found it it won't run for XP. It looks really cool too, jetpacks, full 3D movement thing. You know what I mean.
And yeah, a lot of us PC gamers use XP. Can we have our games back now? I'd like to try 7, but I need to borrow an external hard drive first...

Valve are often kind to us.

On topic: I'm not to bothered, but my 95 system needs updatezz (joke). I have XP and probably would have skipped this, personally: At least they're making a PC game. Most games just float by on a sea of slash-care.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. got almost no DRM at all, you only need a CD key if you want to play online which almost noone wants to

... but most S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games were incredibly bug-ridden on release. And a pain in the ass to spell.

Taking a look at the Steam Hardware Survey, I can tell you pretty exactly how large a market share would be excluded from Just Cause 2:

15 percent. FIVETEEN.

There's a category called "DX10 Systems (Vista/Win7 and DX10 GPU)" that also contains a percentage for "DX10 GPU on XP", and that number's 14,35%. Now, taking into account some statistics stuff, I'd say this number might have a tolerance of +/- 5 points, so the user share we're talking about is between 10 and 20 percent.

You might also take into account the 27% of users with DX9 SM 2b + 3 cards, but given that the system requirements list the geforce 8800 and radeon 2600 (both DX10 cards!) as minimum, I think we can safely assume that those cards wouldn't be a great idea for this game anyhow (or how many DX9-only cards faster than the 8800 or 2600 are there?).

id rather they just not bother if they are gonna half ass it. if you make your game for the Consoles in mind than its meant to be played there. Shoe horning it into the PC is just insulting.

the uninformed will buy this and be horribly pissed XD im waiting on those reactions.
