you dont have to have to be able to do the things that you see on you tube when you start. you train to build up the endurance, strength and skills that you see on you tube hell when i started i was a weedy little shit i still am now but now i am somewhat tank. so all you need to do is train hard and you will get there

Exactumundo. The truth of the matter is no one has the physical endurance, stamina, strength etc at the start, you gain those once you start training. I personally had an edge because I did weight training religiously before starting, so my arm strength is already quite good but you will gain strength, endurance, stamina etc as you train anyway, regardless of your physical prowess.

As my friend put it:
"As long as you're not a quadruple amputee then you can do Parkour, no excuses"

Hey thanks, but it sounds like you have to train like there's no freaking tomorrow, I should get off this damn computer and go do stuff with my life...

Lol, no you don't need to train like there's no tomorrow. It just so happens that I'm not starting uni until next week Monday, I "discovered" it about 3 months ago and took to it immediately. You only advance at a pace that suits you, no one else, you know your body better than anyone so you know when to push it and when not to. I would say I haven't even scratched the surface of what Parkour is, and I've been training almost every other day(sometimes at most even 4 days straight)since I first started, but when I start uni I won't be doing it with such intensity. Every lunch though I'll be out just doing it around town lol, nothing can keep me away from training, well.....maybe uni work:(

I never knew there was such a thing as competitive parkour, but right on. I'm pretty sure if I attempted it, I'd be pretty decent at some of it. I can't do flips or anything, but I can jump high and far, and I'm very flexible and pretty agile. I just need to set aside a day where I can go down to my nearest urban area and start doing it.

I really love to watch it and respect it, but I haven't had an opportunity to take part in it yet.

I took a stab at parkour a while back. Didn't quite work. I'm just not flexible/light enough to actually do anything other than jump a few stairs.

Ah well, I will leave the running to the runners.

I got to try it, although there aren't many buildings in any one place where I live.

wait, I just got an idea; I could do parkour in the woods, which would be pretty awsome with the terrian of my area, whith lots of mountains with steep inclines(around the catskill mountain in NY). You could go really fast down hill, kicking off of trees and probably get a full 10-15 feet off of the ground from jumping off some of the large rocks that stick out ot the mountain side, not to mention grabbing onto small trees and spinning around. I do alot of hiking so I know the area really well.

It's alot like that, but only that colorful in the early fall, the rest of the year it's mostly dark green and tan.

I wish I wasn't so bulky, If I was lighter I would be great at it. I am fast, agile and strong, but the extra flab really slows me down, and makes landings a *****

Parkour would be an awesome method of transportation, (as would being able to manipulate gravity around your wieght-center axis thus falling in any direction)
I sense the potential for an awesome new game here...

I think parkour is really awesome, and I would love to do it, but I'm afraid that I'd wreck my knees doing it. Considering that the tendons and ligaments are all loose in there, and my knees can pop out of joint from merely walking or twisting them the wrong way, parkour would probably be a one-way road to a double knee reconstrcution for me.

Plus I'm a pansy. Haha.

What the shit?

Does anyone else totally disagree with competitive parkour? Parkour is closer to a self defense then a sport. Parkour is idea of getting from A to B as quick and efficiently as possible.

I would love to get into Parkour, but I don't really feel...confident enough for it. I wish I was surrounded by the ideal areas as well, Concrete Jungle instead of towering skyscrapers.. perhaps one day.

I used to do a lot of the ground level stuff (vaulting barriers/fences/cars, that sort of thing) if only because it make getting across the city/campus so much quicker.

Though I messed it up once, knackered my ankle and permanantly busted my wrist, so I can't do it anymore (or write, for that matter)

All parkour is non-competitive. It is not a sport, but rather a journey, a constant quest to better oneself and streamline one's thoughts and actions. The only competition is the one between your bones and the concrete. While not particularly good at it, I do practice Parkour, and I would be interested in joining this "movement" you mentioned.

It's rather amusing the kind of meaning people can put into such mundane things -_^. Jumping over things to get to were you want to go faster, sounds fun. I just don't get all this associated pseudo-religious seeming talk that goes along with it. Upon reading the wikipedia article on it...I left with the profound taste in my mouth of someone trying to sell me something, much like this topic.

Then again, there are stranger things in this fair multiverse.
