Not enough cutscenes?

We all know of games that suffer from the case of verbal diarrhea and prolonged cutscenes and cinematics that you wish you were in. But what games have you played didn't have enough cutscenes?

I'll start by saying Bad Company 2, which I'm playing at this minute. While I do get that Battlefield games are more aimed at online play, it seems like they didn't build up the backstory on this at all. They make such big climaxes where we're supposed to connect with all the characters, but there is so little story behind it. They didn't build up the characters, and they only show a few glimpses of their personalities and who they are. And it can't be called a sequel to the first Bad Company, as they remade all characters personalities from the first without even explaining it. Which is all a shame, cause the story is more interesting than most shooters I've played, and if they just put more effort into the campaign, it could be my contender for favorite FPS.

Assassin's Creed 1 needed more cutscenes. You were allowed to control your character during the talky parts, so I just moved in circles until they finished talking, not hearing and not caring for what they had to say. If they made awesome cutscenes, I might have given a damn about the story.

Also, forgive me if I'm wrong, but...*squints*...is that CrazyHaircut94?
Yes, thank you for noticing. :D Thought everyone had forgot about me.

I think Darksiders needed more cutscenes, It would make the game so much more epic it if had just a few more. The story would also be more involving if it had.

Metal Gear Solid 4.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Seriously though, probably Double Agent - not as much cutscenes as overall storyline. It was very awesome but not too long.

Any Final Fantasy.

I agree with you on the Bad Company 2 issue.

There was little story this time around and I felt quite a bit of Dejavu..

A proper answer would be nice. If you're just gonna make bad jokes, you're not welcome.
Hey, don't diss sarcasm.
I mean, he could've made a proper point but still.
Also, USSR and Arkhangelsk? That's quite a coincidence.
Seeing how I am Russian.

Cutscenes are a crutch. Sure they can be nice in that they allow you to do and show things that you couldn't during normal gameplay, but they also take control away from the player, often making the player character do things that the player can't or won't do if given the choice. A cutscene showing your character do something awesome is meaningless because you had nothing to do with it. Even a QTE at least gives the player the illusion that it's his input that makes the character react the way he it does. In my opinion the only time cutscenes are good if the player truly has no control over the situation, like if it's showing something that happens elsewhere, or if the player character is somehow incapacitated. If a game heavily relies on cutscenes for exposition and/or to force the player in certain directions it really tends to annoys me. One of the reasons I'm not very fond of traditional jRPGs, I guess.

So in my opinion, there's no such thing as too few cutscenes.

They don't need them unless they need them. Brilliant.

Borderlands as it could have developed the almost non-existent story.
Eye of Judgment (well to be fair that needed a story mode in general)
Demon's Souls

that's all i can come up with at the moment

I would gladly exchange some of Oblivion's dinky conversations for cutscenes.

Also, for some perverted reason I'd like some Half-Life cutscenes. Oh, and some prerendered Armored Core robot on robot violence never goes amiss.
