Or, you know, maybe it's because people are using contraception nowadays, when they didn't a few decades ago. Ever thought of that?

Yep. Declining satisfaction of parenting? Insane land economics policy and overcrowding? An economy that's been in the comparative doldrums for two decades? Inadequate economic and social support for women who want to both work and raise children? Little money to throw at these problems due to the rural farm subsidies taking up so much of the budget, and those areas having disproportionately high political power? Firmly xenophobic immigration policy? Proposed solutions to declining birthrate feeding into the problem in a vicious cycle? Lowering birthrates being a well-observed phenomenon in developed countries?

BAH!

Let's blame the geeks. It's easier than doing things.

The reason I don't want a gf at the moment is for several reasons:

1. I don't want to feel obligated to take time off for someone even if i don't want to.
2. Getting into a romantic relationship should not be taken lightly. I've heard way too many stories of people who have broken up with their bf or gf and have become emotional wrecks.

There might be more reasons, but i can't think of any for the time being. If I really want a gf, I'll just try to get to know some girl and then possibly become good friends, and even that's going to take some time and effort. Sure, there's people that have hooked up and are very happy with each other, but obviously, they both chose carefully and probably have gotten to know each other well before deciding to get into a serious relationship. I'm just trying to do the same thing and I don't believe that going out with someone I haven't known for very long is a good idea.

The Japanese old people population problem...

Hasn't that been sort of an issue for a very LONG time, to the point where someone made the anime, Roujin-Z? I'm aware that this may not be the time to make such anime references, especially since that one ended in a giant robot Buddha stomping through town, but the whole problem with people having relationship problems and an overgrowth of the old versus the young has been around a long time without meaning the end of everything.

ADDITIONAL: So, we're making a point to out the otaku, right? Because they don't seek human companionship as much? Uhhhh...YOU SHUNNED THEM. Japanese society frowned on them, but now they want us to make them feel bad for not cleaning up the mess WHILE shunned? Yeah right. Hang your head in shame.

Oh no! If the rate keeps dropping, they might actually be able to fit everyone into their subway trains for once!

Seriously, I don't think this is a problem, considering Japan has serious overpopulation issues. You guys have seen the internet videos of officers pushing people into subway trains just so they'll all fit, right?

Out of curiousity... isn't Japan already pretty crowded?
But it's moving in the direction of being very desolate.

Well, I guess I'm a little bit sad at how Japan is undergoing a huge population decline. At the same time I kind of wish almost everywhere had as low of a birth rate as Japan. I wouldn't like to see the population of Japan go down so much as the whole earth.

I'm also sad at how people are responding to this. Those bits about "herbivorous men" make me rage.

Unfortunately I kind of get the whole "Giving up on real girls because anime girls are so awesome." Haruhi Fujioka is actually did it for me.

I know that's kind of sad but real girls have always been such bitches, at least in my experience, It's not even that I don't want a girlfriend it's just I can't find one that I can stand.

Does that mean bigamists are really healthy?

And, god forbid I bring this into it, but are girls to have any say in this?
Sadly, Japanese society still hasn't completely caught up yet when it comes to gender quality.
Ermm... you mean, equality?

Haha. Gender quality.

OT: Oh sure. I've had this disease. I've had it all my life actually! I've never wanted a boyfriend! Hahahahaha! Hahaha...ha.

Well we all know the stereotype... maybe the Japanese just can't get far enough in there ;).

Ok, joke that's probably already been made but hell if I'm gonna read through 9 pages just to find out done, serious time. Isn't Japan overpopulated? I don't think they need to worry about population decline, they probably should pass a law that says it's legal to punch anyone who actually needs a government sponsored lesson on how to date in the face for being so bloody stupid though.

here's my 2 cents: being a guy who's been in enough relationships to know that not wanting a girlfriend isnt a sickness, its a conscious decision based on common sense, why waste time and energy on something thats filled with drama and heartache when it can be spent playing vid games and checking out new tech?

I have the solution to all of Japans problems. The only thing they need to do is ship me to Tokio and I promise I will inseminate as many cute and sexy young japanese women as humanly possible.

No need to thank me.

He clearly doesn't understand the risk of having a bf or a gf. Even if I was gay, I wouldn't just go out looking for some guy. I've heard way too many stories of people who have become emotional wrecks because their bf or gf broke up with them. Actually, I'm pretty sure I explained this in another post I made here previously.

Two things that come to mind here: one, why does the translation have errors that read like a phonetic attempt at a depiction of a Japanese accent from a 1950's hollywood movie? And two, I want to see a version of Akira where Kaneda is 80 years old and riding around on a souped up Rascal scooter.

OT: Giving up on love isn't a disease, it's just giving up after years of bad luck. Having absolutely no sexual urges, on the other hand? Yeah, that suggests a biological problem, as in, horomones out of whack biological problem. Asexuals take note.
