This for people who are interested in Star Wars The Force Unleashed. Before the game was released the developer stated that the game will be developed only for consoles since "a user would have to buy a $9000 PC to play" (Developers exact words). Basically that it would be unplayable on PCs. But now suddenly they announce that they will be releasing its Ultimate Edition for PCs and Macs. How does this make sense? I am not here to insult Macs but they are not gaming computers so how do they expect them to run a game which is apparently unplayable on a computer?

Did you ever consider the fact that the "$9000 computer" crack was probably a joke, or perhaps a gross exaggeration?

Macs are getting a lot better as gaming computers. They're not great yet, but give them time. (Just to be clear, I'm not a huge fan of Mac either)

Businesses are stupid, that solves most problems with developer redundancy. I just go to my PS3 for gaming though, I will play a few games of Red Alert 3 or even some WoW on my mac from time to time however.

Well, the $9000 PC claim is complete phooey. Seeing as it doesn't cost anywhere near that much to build a computer with more power than a 360, which The Forced Unleashed was being developed for.
But I'm not entirely sure why you're outraged.

Wow, that's interesting. Can you even upgrade Macs? I always thought you couldn't. As for the $9000 PC, my comp outperforms an xbox 360 and since it was released for that I think it should run, even if on minimal settings.

A $9000 PC?

I could buy the best parts available (building the fastest PC currently possible), and I still wouldn't come close to that pricetag.

Could you link to the source of that quote?

Well the point was to express exclusivity on the consoles. The current problem for PC gaming has multiple problems for your average consumer. First the specs to run a game on "high" settings is on the user. Second, the actual requirement to replace a computer to play a computer game for your average consumer is meaningless. Your average consumer today only really needs a computer to write documents and surf the internet. Hobbies such as photoshop, movie editing and playing video games are pointless.

The Force Unleashed could easily run on a computer because the games are created by computers. It is making sure the game will run on the required OS or console that is the problem.
All that and you have to consider how many parents buy computer games for their kids without even looking at the system requirements. I question if half the parents even understand what the system requirements even mean.

Some Apple computers are beasts.

I'll link to each of the Macs, just go through and max all the specs. It'll cost a lot, but they are beasts.

MacPro [http://store.apple.com/us_smb_78313/configure/MB535LL/A?mco=NDE4NDIyMQ]

iMac [http://store.apple.com/us_smb_78313/configure/MB420LL/A?mco=NDE4Mzg5OQ]

MacBookPro [http://store.apple.com/us_smb_78313/configure/MC226LL/A?mco=NjcxMTU1OQ]

None of these are actually made for gaming, but they would work okay. No one in this thread is doing it yet, but don't go saying Macs are underpowered. They just cost way too much for the average person.

Sounds more like an excuse to not develop a PC version. Macs can run games now, but hardly anyone develops for them because the platform is so too small (also most Mac users I've encountered are terribly computer illiterate so that may pose a problem too).

I think they wanted to exaggerate how amazing their game was supposed to turn out to be.

I'm pretty sure he's not outraged, just confused and... Oh wait, yeah he's 'pissed'... Yeah, that doesn't make sense.

Humorously, Crytek said the same thing about consoles being too weak when they were making Crysis.

Moral of the story: Developers say the darndest things!

Have you ever considered that any computer can be a gaming computer? It's not just limited to OS.

Something tickles me about you getting upset a game is going to be ported to a Macintosh OS. The whole console/console/computer bigotry is getting old. Get over it.

Too bad it didn't cost 9001$, for obvious reason.
Anyway, I'm sure he was just cracking a joke.
I see what you did there.

Anyways... is anyone really going to buy this? I mean, the original game wasn't that great. So unless the game got a complete overhaul, I don't see it selling especially well.

Ah yes, but if you tried it on a Mac, you'd easily exceed your $9000 budget.

OT, why would you drink to that?
Is that really the best excuse you've got to get drunk?

Crap. My laptop is (was) easily better than my gaming rig for graphics, ram, speed and responsiveness. It could also run games in it via WINE faster than my XP rig could and with better rendering. The XP rig cost me roughly 3 grand, the laptop was 2.5.

What Mac's are, are expensive and generally not running windows which means they can't play the games available to them - people have to emulate or dual boot an XP/Vista/7 install.

The rest of you idiots who haven't even used a Mac for more than the 5 minutes it takes to cry about not having a right click button need to spend some time on the other side - at least when I rag on an OS it's because I've used it, not because I'm following sheep think.

The only reason that Macs aren't gaming PCs is because no developer, except for Blizzard and a few smaller developers, didn't think they would be a sound design investment. Macs will be coming into their own for gaming over the next few years.

Yeah, that actually makes sense though. A console couldn't run Crysis.

My PC can out-perform a 360 any day, and it cost me AUD$1300.
