I'm honestly a little surprised there hasn't been more call for stripping the NSA of its funding by now.

Perhaps they found something in certain senators' browsing histories.

Gee there goes the need of using a proxy now. I really hope all my anime porn & game downloads are well documented in their super computer, to help support the fight on terrorism. God Bless America!

Hahaha.... 80 mill

I wish the NSA good luck in creating a quantum "supercomputer" with such a pathetic amount of money.

Quick question, where's your avatar from? It's going to be bugging me all day...
LOL, your like the third person to ask me that. I guess there's quite a few perverts her on the escapist.

I'll sent you a PM with the answer.
Haha, can't really call me a pervert when I had no idea where it was from xD. Just thought I recognised the art style from somewhere...

Admittedly, even after reading the Wikipedia article, I still don't entirely understand what a quantum computer even is...

Yay.

If it works we can steal it and use it do solve scientific problems.

If it doesn't the NSA has just wasted some of its man power and money.

Either way it's a win win.

So in short once this thing is built, it will probably unofficially get sold to 3rd parties for a massive profit, and we'll have cyber attacks that can blow through any kind of defense.

Great job NSA!

So phone hacking, bots and software flaws are not enough? Why can't the NSA do something usefull?
I honestly don't understand why people are upset about the hacking & data collection "revelations" (which are only revelations to the ignorant) let alone saying things like this. I couldn't care less about a computer scanning my emails to see if I am a terrorist / pedophile / whatever. I'm not so I have nothing to worry about. It doesn't go further than a spam filter does unless your messages get flagged for whatever reason, in which case it should be looked at.

To say "Why can't the NSA do something usefull?" is just idiotic. They are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing and it appears they are doing it very well.

For a second there I actually thought you believed this drivel.

The NSA has the best interests of the American people in mind, you won't be affected at all, and they are totally not going to abuse their power, despite all the evidence to the contrary, AHAHAHAHAHAHA good one.

You think the NSA is going to restrict itself to looking after terrorist and pedophiles, do you? A government agency voluntarily restricting it's powers, what the fuck? Fucking comedy gold, my friend; I needed a good laugh.

How you Americans haven't burnt down Washington to get them to stop with this spying shit is astounding. I get that building the first quantum computer is going to revolutionize the world. The problem is that the NSA's starting to look cartoonishly evil and you all just laugh and go back to watching duck dynasty and miley Cyrus "scandals."
You know they want this so they can watch even your encrypted traffic and files.

Simple. Most of us just assumed this was already happening years ago, and I imagine your own country has their own version, just not a Snowden to go full traitor and release information.

I'd love another person to come forward and leak more documents and one of them is the NSA's mission statement that says we want to build skynet.

And when asked about it one of the leaders of them says well we watched the movie and we're pretty sure we know how to keep it from killing everyone.

Seriously though I do hope they don't manage to do it, they already have too much power as it is they don't need any more.

Is it just me or does "Penetrating Hard Targets" sound more like a Porno ripoff of a big budget hollywood movie than some NSA spook project?

I'm torn between wanting them to fail (because FREEDOM), and wanting them to succeed (because Quantum Computers would be a massive step forwards in terms of computing power)

What anime/game/whatever is that from? If I had to wager a guess I'd say it's from the sequel to 999 (Virtue's End I think it was called?), since from the minute or so I've seen from that game I do remember a rabbit, and the URL says the image is called "Zero"

So what's next NSA? Cameras in everyone's homes? propaganda theatres? BTW I don't even know what a quantum computer is supposed to be. Sounds like science fiction.
You know how current computing relies on bits and binary? Little electrical pulses that carry data? Think of that, only much, much, much, much, much, much smaller. It would use 'quantum bits' or 'qubits', which are ridiculously smaller. True quantum computers would be immeasurably faster. Personally I think they should work on fiber optic computing first, which is literally just using pulses of light instead of electricity. It's also considerably faster than current computing, though not as fast as quantum.
Thanks. I still can't quite wrap my head around it, but that helps.
No problem! The easiest way to think of it is like... comparing modern computers to the original computers that filled entire rooms and could only manage simply equations and math. It's a lot like that. Our current computers would be insignificant in comparison.

It looks like Code Lyoko's art style to me.
