Last year in my Current Events class we were watching a video that featured a guy beating an seal to death, about half the class laughed and cheered. 30 seconds later they show a picture of Adam and Eve, they voiced their dissapproval. So the answer is simple violence is good, nuditys bad. Ed good, Rocko bad.
What the hell? Who laughs at seeing a baby seal get beat down? That, to me, is a bad sign...

As for Adam and Eve, well, if they don't like the bible reference then that's one thing, but if it's something related to the nudity...

Where is this happening? South east USA?
They definently weren't mad about the christianity and this is Northeast United states (Massachusetts)

So do over-zealous religious lunatics and everyone else that holds "THINK OF DA CHILDREN!" as an obstacle for accepting such thematics.
This.

As well, get mods on PC games. Nudity becomes a non-issue.

Actually I took that class again this year and a new batch of kids (around 6) were laughing at the documentary food inc. when a women was talking about how her very young son slowly died in a hospital while begging for water.

So this is something that always bugged me, why is it that violence is much more accepted than nudity in videogames?
Because when Uncle Jeremiah goes and cuts the cow's throat back at the farm so we can all have some beefsteak, that's perfectly acceptable and you should watch and learn.

But sex is the devil's temptation and you should be ashamed for doing it. Now go do 1000 Hail Marys and repent for your sins.

Slightly less serious answer, but you can see where i'm coming from.
This gentleman has it exactly. Religion (Or, rather, the values derived from same) is why nudity is considered such a big problem.

Violence? Hell, that's all over the Bible- God was hardly afraid to crack a few eggs to make his Eternal omelette, if ya know what I mean.

Violence is pretty necessary for a game to be even remotely entertaining. Sex is not.

all of the other points have been made 50 times, so im just going to leave it at that.
Oh? How about The Sims?
There is a fairly large heap of people that find that game entertaing without any violence, and for the most part the family will grow via procreation. Sure the game might call it WooHoo but anyone with a grain of sex ed could figure that out.
You can still fight in the sims.

so... you haven't played god of war have you? HELLA NUDITY.
No, due to the simple reason of not owning a ps3, or any other console for that matter.
And yeah the media are a bit inconsistent when it comes to what they're complaining about, to say the least.
No, they are consistent. They just don't make any sense.

here's a question though... I never saw God Of War I on the news back in the day and it has more sex and violence than most of its current peers. What gives?

I think the mentality for people running the industries is that someone's kid is a lot more likely to go and have sex with the neighbor child instead of going on a killing rampage with a chainsaw. It's a bit of a backwords way of looking at it but I feel that's what goes on in their minds.

You can, but it's far from necessary. And anyway it's little more than a comic book style dustcloud.

I'd say it's because mass media is criminally insane.

How about on the news, when we see the scene of he latest terrorist attack, complete with a severed arm draped over a lamppost? Or the football game where a linebacker gets stepped on the wrong way and suddenly has a leg bone poking out of his skin? Or in car racing, where we are routinely treated to horrendous car crashes some of which result in the deaths of drivers? Such scenarios are rare, but they do happen, and there's never a hue and cry like there was for 2/3 of second of Janet's nipple.
"The logic of a censor is that a man shouldn't be allowed to eat steak because a baby can't chew it."
-Mark Twain
By movies and TV I meant dramatic fiction, not so much the news. With regards to unforseeable events, like the linebacker's leg or the car crash, the equivalent would be a streaker. They happen all the time at sporting events and no one complains, at least not in the UK, because they know there's nothing the organisers or the TV station can do about it. Janet's nipple slip, however, was clearly set up. With regards to severed limbs and whatnot on news items on terrorists attacks, I've seen news items with naked people being pulled from rivers and rubble after natural disasters. It usually on late, but so is any gore that may be shown.

The Uk is different to the US i guess, more sensible about these things.

now mean phone calls, those are another matter....

Also, i'm not saying i agree with it, its just my explanation of the almost inexplicable fear of nudity in the media

Sadly I think there's still a sizable bunch of them in the US.

I never understood why violence is more acceptable. The way i see it all human beings will inevitably be exposed to sex and nudity as a result of being a living organism, while some of the more extreme instances of ultra-violence in media are things we may never have been exposed to if they hadn't shown them to us.

(assuming you're a straight guy) When's the last time you looked at a naked woman for more than a second and NOT gotten turned on?
I think you'll find that depends on the woman and/or the situation.
Nudity, in and of itself, is most definitely not a good thing. I'm all for making it less taboo. For one thing, that'd make it so we're not all so uptight about being naked and seeing other people naked. Maybe that'd help everybody socially too.

americans are weird about sex but dont have anywhere near as much of a problem with violence. in most of the rest of the civilised world its the other way round, go figure.

AngelicSven said:
If this is strictly on influence of kids and young adults, they are much more likely to have sex and get a girl pregnant or get pregnant themselves rather than rob a bank or kill someone.
yeah, because the type of teenager that spends their time diligently hunting down the sex scene in a game is just deep fried in fanny batter.

By and large? Religion.

Simple question, simple answer.

If you wondered on the other hand why most RELIGION condemns it, that's perhaps a more complex question. My guess would be a combination of a historical lack of birth control, social resistance to technological change, and the telephone game problem which seems pervasive in most religions older than about a decade.
