Lars And The Real Girl is an excellent film and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to absolutely anybody. It could have gone for cheap shots but it doesn't - instead it handles its subject matter with sensitivity and style, while still being both incredibly funny and oddly discomforting at the same time. One of the best comedy films of the 2000s.
I like films that take contradictory directions at the same time, most people say this is inconsistent, but I like it a lot. Weird example: The ending of Conker's Bad Fur Day. Not ingenious, but due to the light tone of the entire rest of the game, the bad ending seems all the more depressing. Films like these usually also tend to be a little more intelligent than average.

Shouldn't her last name be "Tower"?
Good point, but the original French name is Tour d'Eiffel, maybe that's the reason?

Objectophilia... Now, you can't honestly tell me that it doesn't stem from a psychological issue of some kind.

This is a fetish, plain and simple.

Having said that, this is perhaps the most counterproductive fetish besides snuff and genitalia mutilation.

I mean, I know sex is physically and mentally gratifying, but wasn't it's primary purpose for procreation? Call me weird, but it'd be rather difficult to do so if you killed your partners. removed your junk or only had sex with intimate objects.

Then again, with the last two, you'd at least be removing your useless DNA from the gene pool. The first one... well I hope the authorities find you.

PS: Oh yeah, that first publically known case which is so extreme I don't even wanna talk about, I'll keep it short: A woman from Sweden married the Berlin Wall in '79 (which is, incidently, her new last name of course - legally attested, no joke), and considers herself a widow since November '89.
*few*, thought I was the only one.

More importantly, it's a great name for a band.

You have to diverse here. Object-sexuality is a fetish, objectophilia is not. As I said, those people really love their... things (?) and give them personalities, names etc. It's more than a simple fetish.

What is that reference? I thought I got it, but after having looked for it on google, I realized there are about 500 different sources. :S Is it that poem I read once? (which is, incidently, the very first result google spits out)

I find it hard to get freaked-out about. Think of it this way:

Name a fetish/paraphilia/kink you have.

Chances are, it freaks someone else out just as much as objectophilia freaks you out.

Um... I hate to say it, but most paraphilias are counter-productive to direct procreation.

People with foot-fetishes aren't procreating, they're focusing their sexual energy on feet. Underwear-fetishists, or shoe-fetishists, are the same way. Pedophilia (especially nepiphilia) is directed at people who literally cannot reproduce.

But, so what? Even anal isn't productive in the sense you're shooting for.

Actually, there have been interesting studies which track rises in paraphilia (specifically foot-fetishism) with rises in STDs. Outbreaks in Europe corresponded to greater attention paid to the eroticism of the foot.

Name a fetish which doesn't involve direct vaginal penetration and it's "counter-productive".

Maybe it's because I'm not a foot fetishist, but don't most fetishes end up with you eventually "sealing the deal", or is the point to get off on it alone (in terms of general fetishes)?

And yes, anal is counterproductive to my point, however, ramming my junk in someone's shitter isn't nearly as destructive as, say, killing the person.

Well, yes, murder is bad in and of itself. So is mutilation.

But, then again, so is rape. And ageplay (as a fetish) recreates what would be illegal were it done outside of roleplay. The fantasy is distinct from the reality of 'what would happen if'. Hell, I've seen some birthing fetish comics (rule 34 and all), and they always gloss over the more disgusting aspects of childbirth in favor of the fantasy.

So, there's a distinction between the fantasy, and acting on it. I can desire to have sex with a child, but if I don't act on it aside from as a fantasy with a consenting adult partner, it's just another kink. If the fantasy would be harmful if acted out for real, but never is, it's no harm no foul.

As for getting off on the fetish itself, it depends on the fetish.

Obviously, if I have a fetish for rape, I'm sticking it in. But, everyone is different. Some people, one presumes, use kinks as an interlude, as sort of appetizer to 'real' sex. Some may focus on the fetish itself.

A foot fetishist might want to ejaculate on the feet themselves, others might want to play with/worship them as a prelude to direct penetration, still others might want to play with them while having penetrative sex.

To each their own.

Oh snap just got burned T_T lol

OT I have to agree that most people probably have some sort of quirk/fetish that would disturb someone else, but this is the weirdest I've heard of

Well, there are people who don't share your opinion. I'm thinking about this news article on the Escapist a few weeks ago when they reported somebody in America was arrested because he owned so much Lolicon.

Oh, I hope you didn't talk directly to me when saying "no need to be freaked out by it" - I'm a regular on the internet, of course I've seen far worse - I just find this fetish among the weirdest of them all, since (I think) most other fetishes involve living beings.

If that doesn't get overturned by the Supreme Court, I'll eat my hat. I don't own a hat, so I'll have to go out to buy a hat, and then eat it.

And hats are expensive.

But, no, I wasn't talking to you personally. There just seems to be an undercurrent of "that's just too weird" when people talk about other people's kinks, and it's worth remembering that anything you're into freaks the hell out of somebody.

At a certian point it's considered a psychosexual disorder. Falls under fetishism in the DSM. DSM-IV-302.81

It's hard to come up with "the weirdest", but there is another one which I personally rank even higher, and that's trampling. At least I think it's called trampling. For one, it contains testicles being trampled on, but then again, there is other stuff like a woman destroying a plastic model city Godzilla-style. That just left me with a gigantic question mark. Apparently, that had been supposed to be erotic.

You've got to admit, this one has to be among the most bizarre of them all.
