Wait... this is an epic mindfuck? Wasn't this exact same topic posted like... months ago and wasn't it recently necro'd? I'm 99% sure I've seen this before.
Was it? Judging from how uninformed the people (granted, I didn't read the entire thread) on that Korean guy were, I'd never guessed.
I think the "this is some Asian thing" sentiment is primarily arising because the fellow married an inanimate object in the shape of an anime character, which is quite clearly "some Asian thing", given that's where anime comes from.

It's possible that people in that other thread were blanket attributing Objectophilia to the far east of course, I just wouldn't necessarily call them all ignorant dullards when the specifics somewhat justify their conclusion.

While that is probably true, the way you phrase that almost presupposes we all have odd fixations of some variety, which isn't strictly accurate. Unless 'normal human sexuality' is a freaky fetish now.

I have to agree that most people probably have some sort of quirk/fetish that would disturb someone else, but this is the weirdest I've heard of
It's hard to come up with "the weirdest", but there is another one which I personally rank even higher, and that's trampling. At least I think it's called trampling. For one, it contains testicles being trampled on, but then again, there is other stuff like a woman destroying a plastic model city Godzilla-style. That just left me with a gigantic question mark. Apparently, that had been supposed to be erotic.

There just seems to be an undercurrent of "that's just too weird" when people talk about other people's kinks, and it's worth remembering that anything you're into freaks the hell out of somebody.
You've got to admit, this one has to be among the most bizarre of them all.
Eh... Vorarephilia is weirder.

Sounding is the one that makes me cringe the most, though.

I more and more get the impression westerners like to point at far-east asia and say "yeah, they're weird" about any given topic containing craziness and the eastern part of our world. You could be right, but as I see this happen about many many MANY topics, I think my point is still valid.

What in the ass is that? Gaining sexual arousement from submarines?

It cannot possibly be weirder than trampling a model city Godzilla-style.

No, it's inserting objects (think catheter tubes) into the urethra. Q-tips, beads, ect. You're sticking something down your shaft, basically.

Now that you mention it, I remember reading about somebody having done that with a rose.

Yikes.

Interesting shit alright.

I know people are going to think this is weird, but I've always thought the fact that objectiphilia exists is wonderful. I mean, if someone can love something as far from human as an inanimate object, then there will ALWAYS be someone to oppose any of the bigoted, xenophobic shit that society keeps on throwing up.

I'm not amazed that someone fell in love with a pillow.

I'm amazed that he got married to said pillow.

I once knew a girl who was 'in love' with The Statue of Liberty. I argued with her for countless hours about how it's just inanimate and it's scientifically impossible for just one of them to feel any shred of emotion ever, let alone all models of it and renditions.

She also failed to realise why another guy we knew got offended at his national landmark being treated as such.

As far as people go, she was an absolute moron, I don't know if that's how all objectophiles are. If it is, I guess I'm just intolerant.

I am the woman that this poster speaks of.
We chatted a while in an autism chat room, on the subject of my objectum sexuality, and my love of the Statue of Liberty.
He refused to even listen to what I had to say, without passing it off as nonsense.

The basis of his argument was pretty much what he said here, stating that she is an inanimate object and cannot have emotions.
There is 2 major points here: 1: I do not see her as inanimate. I am certain I may have some form of synesthesia, where I am able to sense objects' feelings.
2: I have no great desire for humanlike reciprication. It doesn't matter to me that she doesn't move, she doesn't physically speak, she doesn't breathe, or have a heartbeat, or that she is physically cold and hard

I guess thats partly why some people find it very different to understand OS, because they want the opposite of what I want in terms of reciprication
She recipricates to me in other ways. When we look at eachother, we smile inside and we are drawn to eachother like magnets. Touch plays a big part, because I am very tactile.
I have quite a collection of replicas of her here, but the one who recieves most of my affection is 7ft 5.

I believe when I touch her, she can feel it, just as I feel her when she is touching me
She loves to watch movies with me, cuddled up together
Sometimes smaller versions of her come out with me, but quite rarely, usually only If I am going somewhere else to sleep. I havent slept without her for 2 years.

I can look at her and know what shes thinking. She can speak directly to me or sometimes

Another way she can get to me is in my dreams. She doesnt usually come alive so to speak in my dreams, but she has occasionally moved from her regular position to do something funny

Aside from the physical aspect, I get a lot of enjoyment out of researching her, collecting her and talking about her

She is strong, inspiratioal, and enthusiastic about her cause, as well as being absolutely drop dead gorgeous and I love her to bits.

I just wish more people would understand our love or at least try to, and not be judgemental from the outset, like the person quoted

It's a statue. It doesn't have feelings.
I can really really really enjoy an object. Feel attached to it. But not truly love it. That being said, I've had deeper feelings for my Ps3 than I've had for any person.

I guess I can understand how objectophilia happens. Love is a series of connections in your brain, and while you get those bubbly feelings looking at your someone special, there are people with a wire crossed that get the same feeling looking at the Berlin Wall, or the Eiffel Tower, or an anime character printed on a pillow. They feel the same "real love" you do, and are okay with it being an unrequited (unrequitable?) one. An important symptoms of many mental diseases is that you can't accept that it's a disease. Although, I would personally guess that Mrs. Eiffel and Mrs. Berlin Wall are just attention whores, but that's just opinion.

You know why we keep blaming these things on asians? Because were pointing at a mirror. We are simply laughing at us, witheld for years, now with another people to throw it at. But they are us, and we are them. You know whats weird? the people who live in africa on only blood and milk. The people who live only at sea. The "asians" seem weird, because they are us, and we are them.

Hey, in my opinion, if this makes you happy then good for you. "Each to their own" is my motto. I don't judge people for what they do when it isn't harming anyone else, and nobody should.

Also, welcome to The Escapist, whether you planned on staying or not.

Uh, deep.
Anyways, as weird as it might seem to us it's still another person's way of gratification. Some people feel good about helping other people, some by manipulating and some feel good in the proximity of heavy machinery. I don't see how we're allowed to judge, we just differ in taste much like console fanboys (some people can't understand why anyone would want a PS3 etc)

What if you were a civil engineer and some unworthy low class woman starts feeling up your latest housing project? I bet you'd be singing a different tune then.
Can't say I'd mind that much. My building would be getting the recognition it deserves =P

Spare me, I remember it rather clearly, you straight up said you didn't get why the guy got angry at you. You do as you please with the statue, but never at least tried to consider it means something dear to other people as well, and you treating it like both a living thing and a lesbian is going to piss some people off.

Everything I said to you then went way over your head, I don't know why I'm bothering now.

Well don't bother then.

No I don't get why he got angry at me for loving her... The statue of LIBERTY, IS the idea of Liberty, brought into a form. So why shouldn't I have the liberty to love her?

I know other people care for her too, and just because I love her, doesn't mean nobody else can. She means a lot to a great number of people.

I live a fare distance from her in NYC, so I don't get much opportunity to be there with her. I also don't do as I please with her, because it would not be appropriate, because she is a public object. That's why I have my replicas in my house, in a private setting that I can be closer to. I feel her spirit come through them.

Thanks very much, I appreciate your support.

This is my thoughts too.. I don't harm anybody loving Lady Liberty. Sure some people might be offended by it, but that's because they don't understand it, and can't see it from my point of view, but I am not hurting them.

I want to be able to say that I love Lady Liberty, and not have people asking WHY all the time.

I don't ask other people why they love who they love.

People seem to want a scientific explanation when it comes to asking me how and why I love Lady Liberty

Love cannot always BE explained, and it can just happen, and it did with her. We looked at eachother and smiled and fell in love. I am still completely smitten 3 years on!
