Oblivion Glitch?

I was playing the Elder Scrolls IV game. Again. And decided to take a character through all the Daedric Shrine quests instead of just one for the main story or just a few for the gear I would want. So I finish them all off and then get the invitation to the shrine of Hermaues Mora for the final one. If you haven't done this stop reading now. Anyway, for the rest of you here is the rundown on my situation giving me trouble. I understand the concept of what exactly I am to do. I have already collected 9 souls with the quest log updates varying this and all I lack is one of a High Elf. I am using the special given spell. I am making sure the target is a High Elf and not a Wood Elf. I do have the special soul gem given to me for this in my bag. I am using a magical fire weapon with no other special effects going on, as apposed to my normal bow with a soul trap effect so there is not mistake of the soul going into a normal gem and not the quest one. I've even tried casting the special soul trap spell on the target more then once so the game gives a message that the target is already under the effects of the spell. And the target is not marked with a crown so it is not a special unkillable one needed by the game for a quest. But every time I try I get no message about the soul. Ive tried several High Elves. Ive even reloaded the game and redid this quest several times now. I can't think of anything else I might be missing. And I'm to the point where I think my game is glitched on this quest for some reason. I'm playing a normal 360 unmodded version of the game. Has anyone had this kind of trouble with this quest before or is there something about this I'm missing and just not thinking of?

At least you can run yours, I just bought a copy of it off Steam (GOTY Edition as well) and it won't run for me. This has lead to much anger as I wait for tech support.

Have you tried just going back to the shrine and seeing if it lets you finish the quest?
I would suggest going on a high elf killing spree. Either that or try that thing where you delete your cache with all of the patches. Next time you sign into xbox live it will update giving you the patches back. You will subsequently have to re-download all updates for all your games though.
Might work, might not. its worth a try i suppose
Edit: Here is how to clear cache

1 Turn on Xbox
2 Scroll across to the system tab and select the storage devices option.
3 Highlight the hard drive or memory unit option (it should say "Hard Drive, 12 GB free", for example).
4 (on NXE) Press Y for "Drive options".
5 Enter the following button sequence: X, X, LB, RB, X, X. The following message should appear: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"
6 Select "Yes".
7 Restart your console. You have now cleared your hard drive cache and your Xbox 360 should run faster and have improved game-play on certain games (The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Fallout 3, Halo 3, or other games).

I bought it off Steam too, but mine works. So nyah.

But it takes up a fucking massive amount of space.

I assume you've tried the obvious ways to get it to work?

Normal, no nights of the 9 or downloads or anything. Just basic elder scrolls IV oblivion.

In that case you may be a little buggered. Sorry

get the unofficial oblivion patch.

it's on tesnexus.com, just search for it, it fixes something like 1000 bugs.

EDIT: i didn't realise you're on xbox, don't bother with the unofficial patch then.

You may be in a spot of trouble. Can you reload an earlier save at all?

Yeah it's sad that some people didn't buy Oblivion for PC isn't it. They're missing out on sooo much extra content.
