Personally, I have found the game no more buggy than Fallout 3, and only marginally less stable. I would certainly like the game to be better, but I'd have to be insane and stupid to expect such a thing. The base game was buggy and it was expanded upon by a company known to take a working product and make it buggier.
Don't say that! We have the right to ask for more for our hard earned money. Other companies produce games with significantly less bugs and sell them for $50 - $60. Bethesda/Obsidian expect you to pay the same for their game with bugs up the a*s. Why should we pay the same price for a worse product?
Preach on, brothah!

I don't get why some people will accept or (worse) apologise for mediocrity. It seems to largely be a new phenomenon, because people never supported the Pinto or the Edsel by saying "but it's so hard to do things right"

Well, it seems to be part of both Bethesda's and Obsidian's business models to release broken games, with the promise that they'll be the most amazing games known to man once the fans have had a couple of years to fix the bugs. Just don't support them by buying their games at launch if you don't like that, it's not a secret that they do that stuff, with Bethesda it's pretty much been known since Daggerfall was released.

These are games there is no reason at all to get at launch, get them when they're sold in crazy sales at Steam or end up in the store's bargain bin - and by that time those crazily dedicated mod developers will have made unofficial patches to make the games playable.

This is why I got the ps3 version. I know I SHOULD have gotten the pc version, but the ps3 version is more reliable, and my pc is shitty and wouldn't be able to run it. I haven't seen a single bug in the ps3 version yet. I had fallout 3 and it crashed like crazy and had bugs galore,If you wan't to play the game how it was meant to be played, get the ps3 version, very little bugs and no crashes.

I'll take a buggy but interesting game over a polished but dull one any day of the week including Nottherday.

Bugs almost always get fixed. If not in a patch, in an expansion. If not in an expansion, then in user-created mods (and absolutely nobody's pointing guns at their heads to do it, mind you).

Sure, it may take weeks, or months, or even years (KOTOR2 Restored Content Mod). But eventually, I'll be able to purchase a game that is both creative and stable.

But short of a total conversion, which is infinitely rarer and harder than simple bug-fixes, you can't make a stupid game intelligent. You can't make dull characters interesting. You can't make derivative gameplay innovative.

In 2011 or 2012, the Fallout: New Vegas you will find in the half-price shelf will be a thoroughly enjoyable and stable game, just as Mask of the Betrayer and KOTOR2+RCM now are. But Fallout 3 will still be full of retarded plots. Dragon Age: Origins will still railroad the hell out of me. Blizzard games will still have committee-designed story and gameplay.

Those problems don't get fixed.

Am I happy that Obsidian is functionally handicapped when it comes to setting up the most basic QA process? Heck no. Would I buy, or suggest others buy, their games on Day One? Hell no. Would I want them to go bankrupt? DAMN [CENSORED] [CENSORED] [OH GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU] NO.

I'm really glad that circumstances have forced me to wait at least another 10 days before getting New Vegas. Hopefully all the problems will be fixed by then and I can cover my ears when ever someone brings them up and say "NO WAY BEST GAME EVAR!"

Lot's of senseless bitching, in my opinion.

The save game bug was awful, I'll agree with that. But it's gone now. It was a failure to properly test Steam cloud with their game, and many people were affected because of it.

Aside from that, this game is amazing. It's heaps better than Fallout 3.

Congratulations to all the boycotters, I'd like you to give me a list of all the other free-roam sandbox games you are currently playing, because I'll drop Fallout Vegas and go play them with you.... oh, you don't have much of a list, do you? Shame, well back to Nevada.

Actually it was john Carpenter non Clive Barker. Also it's probably best just to avoid the quest. When you get to novac, just go into the room of the guy who knows the information you need and use his computer. If you REALLY want to do the quest, i suggest saving right before you do it, and then testing your save afterward, or just reverting back to the old ave entirely. Just saying cause i don't want anyone to risk losing their saves. Other than that bug, which i avoided, the game's not been bad bug wise for me
Ha ha ha, I was on the internet movie database not too long ago and looked it up. I felt a bit of an idiot when I found out the film's real writer was none other than Mr Carpenter. That was a bit of a fail on my part. :)

Anyhow, I took your advice and I managed to get the quest done and bag a few achievement points into the bargain. Though I did feel a bit bad for the scientist who got left behind. Though I did two saves before starting this one - you can never be too sure. They both turned out to be fine.

Thanks again for the advice and the warning on savegame corruption. :)

'been playing the game for a good few hours now. Only bug I came across was corpse stretching. And I'm loving it :p (the game, not the corpse stretching. only occured once, but it's always annoying) Somehow Fallout 3 just seemed a little empty to me.
Though the fact that I started modding it 5 minutes into the game might have something to do with the fun :D

Wow I really can't believe the amount of people here bitching about the game and saying it's a shit game just because of the bugs. This game was better than Fallout 3 in every way.

The writing is superior, the general storylines are more believable and less stupid. There are more weapons and unique weapons are actually unique. Intelligent super mutants like they should be. More companions who have their own quests and backstories. An improved crafting system that expands to all different kinds of items. Much more likeable characters with very different personalities. An expansive area to travel and discover. Way more factions. More perks, that actually do something instead of the stupid "increase (skill) by X points". A more difficult skill progression that requires you to choose what kind of player you are and makes it impossible to be a "jack-of-all-trades". Hardcore mode that makes the game much more immmersive and challenging. The ability to finish the main quest with just speech.

Oh and one of the best parts; a fantastic voice actor roster with more than triple the amount there were in Fallout 3, and all of which have skill that allows them to change their voice instead of use the same voice over and over again. Now not every second character has the exact same voice, even if they're voiced by the same person, and the actual voices themselves are far superier.

And all of you are bitching about bugs. Tsk Tsk Tsk. It's a shame to see such a great and intelligent game go to waste on people who are crying because they saw a rock pop in or the game crashed which happens on heaps of other games.
Haha, it's funny because you're so obvious in your trolling. (Then again, with what you'll allow yourself to be fed, maybe you can get a job in QA with Obsidian! Get paid for those shameless off-topic fangasms!!!)
Sorry. It's a buggy mess. Don't matter none how "epic" and "woot" and other words you kinds of people use it is if it don't work none.
I'm almost surprised you didn't roll in here with a PipBoy avatar, so little capacity for subtlety do you possess.

yo, guys, check this out. I found it on the Bethesda blog (Read Bold):

Bethesda Blog
Oct. 22, 2010

Wanted to let you guys know that Obsidian and Bethesda are continuing to work to address issues reported with Fallout: New Vegas. Overnight, a new game update went up on Xbox 360, resolving a number of quest and scripting issues - similar to the update we reported on Wednesday for PC players. To get the update, players will want to make sure their Xbox 360 is connected online.

A newer update is up on Steam as well - fixing issues players reported with game saves. In our forums, senior producer Jason Bergman explains the update:

"We are also pleased to say that we have just released a second fix for PC users to address the autosave and quicksave issues that some people were encountering. That particular issue was never seen prior to release and it was extremely difficult to reproduce reliably, even after the game had launched. In order to fix this problem we have had to disable Steam Cloud functionality. It has been turned off, and we won't turn it back on until we're absolutely sure it will not cause any more problems. Please restart your Steam client to make sure you get the update."

As we have more details on game updates/patches, we'll keep you posted.

Update: We've received word that the PS3 update for New Vegas is live in Europe.

http://bethblog.com/index.php/2010/10/22/an-update-on-updates/

Well, that's interesting.
Gotta hand it to them, they are fucking quick with the patches! Any other developer and we could be waiting months!

OT: I played it for a little while and haven't ran into any major glitches, odd lag here and their but it's for like a second.

In a huge open world like Fallout, it is pretty hard to find any sort of glitches. Especially considering they will be running on computers that are made off world or something...

But still enjoying the game, just hope the bugs get sorted soon :)

You know the 360 version is the same right? all console versions would be, aside from graphical differences. Hell if Fallout NV went to the Wii it would be the same, except the controls would be weird and the Graphics would be shit...er

But i see your point :) I have the 360 version and it works like a charm ^_^

6 hours. I keep telling myself that the entirety of my scheduled 'Me Time' away from family and responsibility did not go to waste, and that my save file is somewhere hidden on my hard drive. Maybe the next time I get a little bit of time for my hobby it won't be obliterated by inept developers.

I was playing New Vegas, just got out into the desert and visited a graveyard. I saw a bird next to a grave and followed it in iron-sights view as it flew off into the distance. This froze my game. Damn bird froze my game!

Releasing buggy games for the day-one purchasers to play test seems dangerous and irresponsible for a company. It hurts and offends the consumers that care enough to get the game full-price the day it comes out (And possibly even those overpriced special editions). Fallout 3 has been out forever and it still has all kinds of glitches. My New Vegas experience is a bit tarnished with the thought that a glitch can occur at any second, and I'm definitely going to be hesitant to purchase a new Fallout when one eventually comes around.

A crash, and lag when you perform an ordinary action....not buggy?.. what do you call it then (mild admittedly.. but hardly non exisitant.)
1 crash.. I wouldn't really call that buggy and the lag is probably just my computer. It is a laptop after all..
