Am I the only one that remembers that Obsidian's best, "recent" examples are still at best mediocore, like KotOR 2 actually, to the down right horrible, such as Alpha Protocol?

Alpha Protocol was a game with an incredible idea but very poor execution. Still, decisions and their impact on the story was so well done I want a sequel. Also Albatross is the boss. That rhymes so you know it's true.

Meh, couldn't get into KOTOR because of the shit combat system, I think I'll pass on this. I'm sure their fans will enjoy it though, and hey if they can do that, who cares what I think?

I don't know if I'd want another Star Wars game from Obisidian. Don't get me wrong I like Alpha Protocol and New Vegas a lot, but KoToR 2 always came off as pretentious to me.

OH MY GOODN- "Rather than step on BioWare's toes and set their game during the Old Republic era..." Awwww but it's my favorite time period! Well at least it's not during the movies. Luke is a terrible Jedi and I'm tired of Darth Vader.

Plus it was fun to go around punching everyone in the throat and then act professional in the dialogue. That game is such a winner.

Between ep 3 and 4? Sound's interesting, but who would you play? A Jedi survivor from the temple?

Hmmmmmm Will have to keep an eye out. Still waiting for HD remakes of Kotor 1 and 2...With Kotor 1 having the mechanics and customization that 2 has, and number 2 actually being finished. Not being able to find the HK-50 factory is so annoying!

EDIT: Also, why are people bringing up how unfinished Kotor 2 was? Sure it was unfinished and at times seemed very rushed, but this was nearly 10 years ago, and as far as i know Obsidian have done really well, Alpha Protocol, while buggy as hell, was generally well received, and New Vegas while again being buggy (however Fallout 3 was also buggy, and wasn't Obsidian) was still good and there were no game braking bugs with in any game, they generally have awesome story's and the voice acting surpasses most games. Even Kotor 2 to this day still has better voice acting and characterization than some of the best games of last year!

I..>yes, Make this happen, i don't know what I did to deserve this....wait...There's got to be a catch. [del]I'm guessing It'll cost over 9000[/del], that or it'll be so buggy it's unplayable.

Ask the average PC gamer what their favorite Star Wars game is and there's a good chance they'll name drop Obsidian's excellent Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

Really? I was under the impression most people considered the original to be much better, and the review scores certainly seem to support that. The sequel was a great game, and I honestly didn't notice a single bug when playing it, but it just wasn't as good as the first (other than the graphics which were of course a lot better).

That said, I would love to see them make another one.

Captcha: Beautiful friendship. Oh yes.

Graphically it was exactly the same.

It's gained greater acclaim as it's gone along, you have to remember that the reviews were met with a very buggy game with some very noticeable missing pieces. I imagine the split is pretty even amongst players. KotOR's the go-to if you want to know how to execute a twist with precision, KotOR II if you want an example of how to deconstruct the ever-loving shit out of a genre and universe. It's certainly a hell of a lot bolder. (Personally I can never make my mind up about which I prefer.)

Let Obsidian do everything except the building of the game and it should be perfect :D

How Obsidian has released so many buggy titles is beyond me, but they need a seperate team just to make sure the game doesn't start falling apart as soon as you try to play it.
Keep in mind that quality assurance, i.e. beta testing, is almost always done by the publisher, and not the developer. That's just how the industry works. And publishers have a habit of not treating Obsidian as well as they might treat more successful studios.

Fallout: New Vegas was buggy because of failings within Bethesda. Keep in mind that Fallout 3 was about equally buggy when it was released.

KOTOR 2 was buggy (and lacking in content) because Lucas Arts cut development short.

With Alpha Protocol, it was Sega. For buggy Sega games to compare with, look no further than every 3D Sonic game.

We could also go all the way back to Fallout 2, but I reckon that was as much about it being a product of its time as it was about Interplay's QA. The late 90's were a time when the scope of roleplaying games increased dramatically, and no one really had the routines or tools to get the job done without a ton of bugs.

Money + QA + Extended testing = Profit/Win?
Or we can do it the Obsidian way:
Make game, playtest 1/2 of it and release. Then fix.

Hate to be "that" guy that mentions reality but, this won't happen in the era they want. Obsidian, and others, seem to have forgotten there are games in the era they are trying to pitch a game for. Namely, The Force Unleashed franchise occupies that slot.(no need for a discussion about the quality of those games please.)Also, while Lucas did sell off Star Wars he did, however, retain some control creatively. He would probably attempt to block new ip that is not Force Unleashed in that era or Disney will push for Obsidian to do Force Unleashed 3 or some such. Further, as someone else mentioned, Disney has a terrible track record with games...
Actually, only TFU's tutorial mission took place in what we may assume to be the period of time when Obsidian's game would be set. That is, when Order 66 is still in full force, but after the conclusion of Episode III. The rest of TFU took place at the advent Rebel Alliance, which was... 10+ years later?

There's still plenty of pre-rebellion room left, when the Empire was at the height of its power.

I liked the sequel but I'm not so sure I'd consider it better then the Bioware original. That's a bit much.

Either way, I do like what Obsidian does (minus the buggy nature of all their games), and I'd definitely grab it when it comes out.

Here's hopin'.
