Why????? Ok, I'm done.

So, it'll be an immature, buggy game I won't play because I have no interest in South Park.

Coming from the guy who bunked college to pick up the N64 game on day of release (and got a sweet Cartman bobble hat with Acclaims logo stitched into it completely ruining it):

Even though Trey and Matt (and let's face it, pretty much just Trey) will be handling the scriptwriting, I'm sure they won't be writing every line of dialogue in the game -- or even close. Which is one of the many reasons Obsidian is right for this project. Chris Avellone is one of the most hilarious writers in gaming when he wants to be. Just look at Morte.

I'm not that worried about bugs. I think Obsidian's QC problems are directly related to the ambition of their titles. Their games have more possibilities than most, so there are more possibilities for screw ups than with most. Which is why DS3 was fairly solid and Alpha Protocol was a mess. I can't imagine their ambitions for a South Park games are so huge that they'll run into problems making the game stable.

I think a South Park RPG in the veins of Dragon Quest or something like that, old school top down turn based would be perfect and a lot of fun. But an Obsidian style game? I don't see it. It'll be fun to see what happens with it, though.

The south park universe is certainly large enough to support an rpg game. I'm not holding my breath but this is defiantly gonna be in my radar.

lol, I love that on the threads about crossing shit together to make a product everyone acts like "MAEK THIS GAME!!! I WILL BUY IT!!!" but when someone actually tries to make something similar to that everyone complaints about it being stupid.

I am interested in seeing what comes out of this, it may work.
You said it.

I'd LOVE a game where you wonder around South Park and can talk to all the characters, with voiced dialog written by the creators themselves.

And why wouldn't it work?

And why are people complaining about bugs when all major releases seem to have them these days?

Obsidian. Obsidian is making a pi[South Park[/i] game.

... huh...

At first glance this looks like overkill to the point of putting out a lit match by blowing up the local dam. Does this partnership make any sense? Well, no, at least not to me, but whatever the result will be is going to be worth at least a quick glance.

Anyway, Obsidian's strength is writing and someone else is doing that. So why did they team up with Obsidian again? Why not Bioware, they also had a strange collaboration with Sonic Team that turned out something not so bad if I remember right? I just think Obsidian is the furthest from "logical" choice, unless it's the only one they could find.
Obsidian knows good RPG design and making story mesh with gameplay, so they are a logical choice. Plus Bioware is busy with 3 different game projects, one being an MMO, and I doubt EA wants them working for 3rd parties. And considering that South Park episode about EA sports I doubt Trey and Matt would be willing to work with them in a joint effort.

Those South Park blokes are glutton's for punishment. They put so much pressure on themselves coming up with episodes for their shows usually a week before it airs that having a whole 'nother project to attend to would make their lives very stressful. And they just got off the heels of that musical they wrote. I honestly have no idea what they plan on doing this whole premise is extremely peculiar.

South park has a rather bad track record of making video games that aren't, Well. Good. It has been years since their last venture into video games. Maybe it will add to the somewhat short list of video games with a flair for comedy.

I honestly think that Obsidian is one of those studios that could take any concept and, with a lot of concerted effort, probably make a semi-decent profit out of it.

But I have a list of concepts where you could put every damn brilliant writer, developer, studio, what have you on the project and it'd still blow chunks at the end. South Park is one of them.

Fairly funny show, but it just wouldn't work as a video game.

I love South Park, but the games have usually been bad (except for Let's Go Tower Defense, that one rocked). Can't really say anything about Obsidian as I've never played any of their games. So, I guess I'm cautionally optimistic. I wan't it to be good, but I'm not so sure it will be.

I'd heard of this project, but this is the first I've heard that it's by Obsidian.

This is... awesome, actually.
