william32 is a bot. Kill it with fire.
Actually, that one was a little odd. That account was 5 years old and the initial posts from around the time of creation were definitely plausible as something a human would write, then all of a sudden, 5 years later soccer stream spam. Like, talk about the long game.

Did @Mister Mumbler get hacked or something?
It certainly seems like it. If it's true his steam profile was also hacked because the same garbage was posted as a Portal 2 guide on there. Strangely enough, it's been deleted since. I really can't understand what the game is here. To ruin Mister Mumbler's internet reputation?

It definitely makes me miss the days when we had more than one mod who could put a lid on all this spam.

Considering that we are down to like what, 10 regular users. Seems like 1 should be more then enough.

It should be, but he's been going off like this for close to two days now. In PMs too for some people.

Thank you, @JoJo, that was getting pretty insufferable and a little scary when compounded with the IMs "he" was sending me.

Ah, you too? I wonder who else was invited to the 'party'? Honestly it might have been fun if a little restraint was used and not just incessant 5k word spam.

Like, his first PM to me referenced accessing a Portal 2 guide on his steam profile, which was not there when I first checked. Eventually, it was uploaded, but it was really disappointing because it was just the exact same self aggrandizing gibberish that was being spammed everywhere, only slightly more congratulatory. Honestly, I just really don't understand what the point of the whole exercise was. If he was hacked, what was the point of the steam guide, the pointless ad free spam, and the PMs? If he wasn't hacked, the same questions, but also why randomly include Mumbler's Gmail address and maybe phone number in PMs to me?

The only way this makes any sense is if the account was fully controlled by an AI. But again, why? Why would anybody want Mumbler's account to be controlled by an AI?

Nothing about that had any potential for fun with ANY amount of restraint; none of it made any sense. It was like a schizophrenic went of their meds and decided everyone here needed to enjoy the untethered demons. I never thought the smiling face of Keenan Thompson could haunt me. Sorry to lose the normal Mister Mumbler in such a creepy fashion, but I'm glad it's over.

What's not fun about reading schizophrenic stream of consciousness rambling? I find it utterly fascinating. Like, they're speaking my language, but following a logic understandable only to themselves, and there's an intrinsic thrill in trying to comprehend it. It's like, we're all living in the normal boring world where everything has a logical boring explanation, but they're living somewhere entirely different and we can catch a glimpse of it through their posts. Invariably the quantity is enormously vast, though.

I am sad about Mister Mumbler, though. That did put a serious damper on the whole thing.

I almost feel like I missed an event. I wonder what sort of criteria was in place to have some users be PM'd and others not, cause I didn't get anything during this whole mess.
Think he'll be able to come back? I forget if forum registrations were closed or not

I think if you mentioned him or his bizarre posts at all, he'd seep into your PMs. I just casually mentioned how I thought he'd been hacked to another user in a general forum, and woke up to like 10 PMs asking me to be a part of some secret, nefarious "joke." Really unsettling, and nonsensical stuff. You didn't miss anything; I'd wager you dodged a bullet.

It really seemed like an ai bot going nuts.

To an extent, but looking at the timeline, their is a period between the reasonable posts clearly made by a person and the gibberish where it is a mix of both.

No, that wouldn't make sense. A chatbot's output would have been appreciably more coherent - and likely theme or message focused - if it was working as intended, and producing far more outright gibberish (in the style of "vamdieana adtngosatj 241t3$35qgta" rather than "the curmudgeons burned down the bagel factory") if it was broken.

What we saw from Mumbler over the last few days aligned more with scorched earth 'I dare you to ban this account!' patterns that you often see in younger (and often entitled) users throwing a temper tantrum, often after getting pissy that one of their posts was subjected to moderation.

That said, that certainly doesn't sound like the Mister Mumbler we all knew (if anything else, he's too old for that kind of tantrum to feel in-character), but it does align with the idea of an edgy troll of some sort getting into his account and deciding to ruin it 'for the lulz'.
