Just gonna pose a question here. Can't people just download a new music managing program that isn't itunes? I know for a fact there are/ were other music programs that worked with ipods.

PS. Still makes me laugh every time me and a couple buddies lan DoTA that my friend has to go running for his mouse because he only has one button on his laptop and would have to do some weird button combo otherwise.

Where do you shop for windows? I found some windows 7 online starting at 61 bucks for the 64 bit professional. Even if you go the official MS website and buy it its only 119. Or if you go to a university bookstore you can get one really cheap, or if you have a work email address or school one etc. Either way you shouldn't pay more than 99 bucks for the OS.

Still, if it was going to happen to any company, I'd have put money on it being Apple: the iron-grip they maintain on all their products and their half-arsed approach to customer care is a poor combination.

No they wont. This has been around for a while now. The big issue though is with AMD/ Intel mac problems with the next batch of iPods/ iPhones. Chances are that you will need OSx.6 Wich requires an Intel processor. Apple macs have been using Intel for a while now (since 06) but it's not just a case of getting a £120 new operating system but spending £600+ for a new mac.

God I do hate apple's Customer service. I like their products. Just not how they go about selling them.

People don't get this wrong. Have you forgotten about all the Apple marketing? The whole "Mac vs. PC" thing? Apple doesn't brand their computers as PCs even though they technically are, so it makes sense that people wouldn't consider Macs to be PCs.

OT: Don't really know much about Apple products. Windows has treated me well enough over the year so I never once considered switching. This sounds pretty bad but not being educated about Apple products I'm not sure how much of it is really true.

Marketing does not accuracy make, PC standing for personal computer just makes more sense, a machine running Windows 7 is a PC a machine running Snow Leopard is a PC a machine running Natty Narwhal is a PC

If windows machines are PCs and apple machines are macs then what are we to call machines that run anything else?

Using PC as short hand for windows will only serve to make people more narrow-minded, hell its taken us how long to make people realise windows is not the only option?

I agree with you, but its much quicker to write PC than a PC running Windows XP, or a Windows Machine, and pretty much everyone knows what your talking about when you say you have a PC as opposed to a Mac.

Honestly anyone who has taken a computer course knows (or at least shoudl know) what exactly a PC is and what and OS is at the very least. Seeing as computers aren't going anywhere and how us kids who grew up with this stuff are becoming working adults you'll see these terms being reinforced in introductory courses. Yes you might see a slight increase in ignorance now, but it will sort itself out in the long run.

Still though, having an OS you absolutely know what it does and how to upgrade it isnt a bad thing.

But the majority of computer users are too lazy to even pick up a "HTML for dummies" book.

Don't I know it, I'm currently at uni (doing computer science) but I come from a small community and my father was a local publican so my family was quite well known in the area. Well known family + knack for fixing things in general + studying comp sci = tech support for about a 3rd of the town.

I'm not sure what exactly it is that irritates me more, the older people who just can't quite get it because its such an alien concept to them so they wont try anything or younger people who are quite tech happy but just as ignorant as the older people and will happily click on or download anything.

As for the GNU crowd I'm not a massive supporter I just liked that article in particular.

My laptop plays my games just fine, with a plethora of tools I can use for CGI.

See this is why I detest apple. And no the fact that I own an ipod touch and a shuffle (well done apple on testing your headphones for that btw) does not make me a hypocrite.

While there are a hell of a lot of things about apple products I damn right detest the major culprit of this being the iphone software design choices. But as far as mp3 players go I will not say a bad word about them. I love my shuffle. Although my Nokia N8 is technically superior for playing videos due to the massive array of codecs it supports. I still prefer to have a dedicated mp3 player for some reason

But yeah fucking over its own customers yet again. Cunts.

True, can't live with em, can't live without em. Or rather can't have good customer care and the best music player on the Market at the same time, it seems.

Oh, and due to my sister hogging the laptop, the only reason I'm even posting here right now is that I have an iPod touch.
