Except the controls could be so unresponsive and sluggish that you could be stuck doing nothing for 5 seconds (see slow-mo throwing knives, the biggest offender, so often I'm stuck standing there and getting hit before aiming mode starts), the attack animations had a level of randomness to them that you could not predict when Geralt does a regular attack or a running leap strike, enemies block and dodge almost at random, the hit effects and recoil animations are very poor at showing when either you or Geralt are getting hit (and from where), the hit detection is all sort of wonky, etc.endtherapture said:I personally though the combat was a lot better than in Dark Souls, at least for the style of combat Geralt is supposed to do. He's a superhuman mutant so he is supposed to be lightning quick and roll around loads, evading his enemies and taking them down. The slow motion bullet time for aiming and throwing bombs and knives were great, and the magic system was well above the clumsiness that was in Dark Souls.
I loved Witcher 2 enough to play through 3 times, but the combat has a TON of technical issues. Dark Souls' predecessor, Demon's Souls, the game from which Witcher 2 takes inspiration from, does combat undeniably better
