Well, I do hate it when people don't even know who the Prime Minister of Ireland is when they're from Ireland.

In fact, I hate it when anyone from a country doesn't know who's in power in their country, unless they're under 11.
What if that person doesn't care about politics and government?

I could care less about the people in government here, I just know the ones whose names are thrown in the news all the time.

I think it's funny that Thomas Edison's discovery of gravity had NOTHING to do with an apple falling on his head. Yet so many people know that story and take it as fact.

Given that most modern bands are technically (and I stress technically) more skilled than the Beatles, it's worth remembering that aside from the belief of the elderly and some classic rock snobs, there's nothing inherently making the Beatles "better" categorically. I think Voxtrot makes better music (and has a drummer who doesn't drum like he's either clinically retarded, or having a seizure), personally.

And if we're going to talk about "well, you should know them because of their influences", please remember that most people don't know what ENIAC was, and only know about punch-cards as part of old-person stories. Hell, most people don't even know how Xerox basically invented the modern computer interface.

Put some emphasis on "The beatles were bigger than Jesus"
This, every bit of this is pure logical gold. Kids two generations from now won't remember any of the bands I listen to, and I won't get to complain about it. Sure, some of them might still listen to the Dresden Dolls, but anyone complaining about other people not knowing/liking the same music is a douchebag in any generation.

I play this game with my chavy friends(kinda)

"David bowie?"
"That sounds like a gay"
i nearly slit his throat
David Bowie gay? God, I'm glad I was not there, for I am a huge fan of Bowie. Although, his alter ego Ziggy has sex with pretty much anything, at least in the songs...

"What's a Led Zeppelin?"

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!
I was talking about Led Zeppelin once and someone thought that I was talking about a blimp made of lead.
Kinda forgivable as that's precisely what they were named for...

Someone (either Eric Clapton or Jeff Beck) once turned to Jimmy Page and said "This show is going to sink like a lead balloon"

The show was awesome and Jimmy decided to change the name of his band to Led Zeppelin. He dropped the A so people wouldn't mis-pronounce it as Leed Zeppelin...

Lizzie Borden, the famous axe-murderer. I lived right down the street from her old house when I was in High School, adn when I mentioned this to someone online, they were like, 'who?'

Now I thought the Borden murders were nationally famous, possibly internationally. And since when I said 'mentioned' above I meant 'was bragging about', this kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

(Cue people telling me they have no idea who Lizzie Borden is. Go figure. :D)
I never remember until someone quips 40 wacks, then it clicks.

A person in my history class thought Hitler's first name was Hitler. She figured Adolf was like his military title.

Wanna hear the kicker? When I asked her what Hitler's second name was, she replied with,..Yep, Hitler. So to her, his full name was Hitler Hitler, with the rank of Adolf.
Haha this has made me laugh. Heres a internet highfive and some cake.
Someone in my philosophy class didn't know who Plato was.

Quite recently I started listening and got addicted to the Beatles, I had known of them before hand but never listened but a day or two ago while discussing music in school a few ladies asked who were the Beatles...I was close to killing them, considering these guys were bigger than Jesus and they had never heard of them was rather upsetting, a few weeks earlier a few people asked who Winston Churchill and Stalin were and a number of other important historical figures.

So I ask you Escapists (or whatever you're called) do you know of any criminal lack of knowledge towards important people? Please post here so we may mock them.
Hahahahhaha! Haha I like you :D Yeah all the time, which is quite fucking appalling. I mean, the knowledge is out there, there's internet, libraries, schools, bookshops, your parents. How the fuck can you not know that Africa is not a dish :S It's scary but the thing that frightens me the most is when your standing there trying to correct them AND THEY are the ones who think they're right...

Dear oh dear, what have we come to. This is the 21 centuary, we should be this advanced uber super race, communicating through telepathy, curing all diseases and stopping war. Yet we're still as primitive as before. Alright alright I'm a little off topic, but stupidity seems to be something to be pursued nowadays. Ignorance is thriving while the few intellectuals that exist gets to fuck off.
A rather depressing thing I found is that in Google Trends "Stupid" is more trendy than "Intelligent" in almost every country. (I think India and another country were the only ones to favour intelligence).
Holy shit :S Yeah now we know we are in the shit. Well ok we've known that for a long time, but fuck me. Things had better change, this is a scary age we live in
It may be scary, but we're booming technology wise.

In the Netherlands, we have a tv game show, of which the title doesn't properly translate to english, where a bunch of men try to guess wether or not a team of "pretty" women awnser a question on common knowledge correctly.

The awnsers are staged however. Still, they manage to produce some severe wallbangers.
Par example: When asked to roughly point out Robbeneiland on a map, where Nelson Mandela had been imprisoned for several years: they concluded he was a serial killer and that Robbeneiland was somewhere off the coast of Greenland.....right.

You wouldn't happen to be a fellow Argentine?
I am. And sort of proud of.
I suppose we're all "sort of" proud of being an Argentine. We're proud in an "in spite of" way!
Something like "Yeah, inflation is crazy, private companies rule the country, the President only gets along with 3rd world countries... as a matter of fact, we are a 3rd world country, national industry sucks but imported goods are too expensive, salaries are frozen, half the country is below the poverty line, public education is in the slums and criminals have more rights than regular, tax*-paying citizens, but I'm still damn proud!"

*Speaking of taxes, did I mention 60% of your income goes to the state. The President does need some new shoes, after all.

Yes, our goverment may be the worst ever seen, but we have a beautiful country, and not all the people here are criminals... I didn't vote the actual President, and I think the most of the people havent, election fraud happens. I think that, in good hands, we would easily become a 2nd world country.

Yes, the 60% goes to the state. The problem here is that there's no way to revert the situation, since there's no actual right one on the goverment and a military coup would be even worse.Old Cristina uses a plane to transport a vase from Bariloche to Buenos Aires. I think I'm killing her someday.

People in my friends history class didn't know what a Kaiser was. That is depressing in my opinion. I even heard some couldn't name the FUCKING century the Civil war was in, much less the decade.
not meaning to nit pick(this will make you facepalm) but, maybe it's because they didn't know which civil war you were talking about?
Well, this was in real life, not online, with other Americans (meaning when we say Civil War, we pretty much only think American. We have ego issues), and I wasn't doing the asking, a teacher was. But yes that would make me facepalm if I had made that mistake with an international crowd.
