People of the Escapist, I have a vague attempt at a story to tell.

I've been gone for a while, free from the internet, and all other forms of technology, due to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

(For those who don't know, it's a school thing in Australia that's great for your CV, but requires determination, and a lot of it)

Anyway, being stuck kilometres from civilisation has given me time to think, and on reflecting back on my everyday life, and I remembered something vital.

My laptop died a while back, and it's memory got wiped as a result. It just so happens that on that hard drive is basically an un-backed-up (yeah, a fault on my part) archive of everything I have done and collected over the past year (schoolwork, cool pictures of random stuff, half my original Lord Krunk Reviews documents etc.), and now it's all gone.

But then I came to another discovery, one that depressed, enraged and made me scream out "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" while I was out there.

My only copy of my original Avatar, the un-halloweenatised, un-coloured, perfect-quality picture of iBeat, is gone as well.

So now I either have to dig into my other computers to see if I can find it, try and remember how to use photoshop again, or go with a different avatar, which angers me severely.

Anyway, I needed an excuse to whinge in public, so I will set up a discussion with this question:

What are some of your own personal "Oh Noes!" moments?

Mmm. Sounds sad. It's possible you could just take out the pumpkin and color it back in, but...

but I digress. My own personal expirience was when I was twelve, had stayed up for several days in a row in order to bead Super Mario world, and walked away. Just as I was lying in my bed, my sister told me, "Ron, you didn't shut the game off!"

Now, we had a really old copy, and for some reason, you couldn't save your game on it.

Needless to say I nearly strangled my sister.

That's my two cents.

Apologies Abound

Ah, that happens at least once with every RPG I play.

I feel for you.

Couldn't you just use Photoshop (hell..paint will do) and colour over the pumpkin with the background colour? Or was there something else that can't be fixed so easily?

Is this the one with the grey background? It's possible (note: Not definite, just possible) that I have that somewhere on my computer from when I put you into the Ultra Rebellion poster back in the election. I'll have a look.

Anyway my "Oh Noes!" moment would probably have something to do with my shoddy Internet connection. My country has pretty terrible networking companies, and if I want a decent connection it's going to cost upwards of $70 New Zealand (And that's with a limit of 1 GB)
As a result I have a somewhat slower connection than I would like, this leads to some situations both here on the escapist (being Ninja'd when I had clicked post over a minute before the person that Ninja'd me) and on Xbox live (where it has a tendency to suddenly lose connection as I'm just about to pull of a headshot or bring the flag back to our base)
Stupid Internet. I hates you!

I will see if I can find that picture Mr Krunk, but don't get your hopes too high.

1) I lost my original, high-res one, meaning that I will have to start from scratch, unless a copy is found somewhere.

2) I've forgotten how to use Photoshop (yeah, I didn't use it much to start with), meaning that I essentially can't do the above.

3) It just so happens that my copy of Photoshop was on that laptop. Dodgy!

4) It also doesn't help that a new, fancier version of my avatar, (which is meant to double as Lord Krunk's Seal Of Approval) is gone too.

It is somewhat annoying.

EDIT: Thanks, Ninja, but there was actually a version before that. Backtracking through the chronology of Lord Krunk is hard! It's almost as if someone doesn't want anyone to know about my past...

Okay, I'll stop trying to cameo the CTS.

Mostly.

Damn that does suck. And now I notice that you have no Avatar. A shame, it trully is. Hopefully Iron Ninja will come through.

My "Oh Noes" moment was when I finally caught Mew on a Pokemon game. Worked forever trying to catch the bastard. I finally put him to sleep, paralyzed and down to very low health. After about twenty attempts he was caught. I was about to make it to the Pokemon centre when my battery died and Mew was gone. I was very angry. And then I caught him again and all was good in the end. Then something happened and the game was deleted. I lost a lvl 100 Alakazam a Lvl 100 Mewtwo, a Lvl 100 suicune, a Lvl 100 Entei, a lvl 100 Raikou, a lvl 100 Lugia, a lvl 100 Ho-Ho, a lvl 100 Typhlosion, a lvl 100 Zapdos, a lvl 100 (the other two birds), a lvl 100 celebi and my Mew. Do you have any idea how long that took me!?!

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA???

I got most of those Pokemon back again but I'll be damned if I'll ever get them all to level 100.

Pfft. Lightweight. If you haven't got an entire box full of level 100 hand-picked pokémon to pull out for use in online/multiplayer battles, you're not a pokémon fan. :p

Maybe it was a sign that you needed to get a new avatar. Like as you mature/learn new yo mama jokes you must change how you are presented to match your new wisdom/ability to lol.

Think about it.

True, but my avatar is sort of a defining thing for me.

Rather than attempt to empathize with you, which I don't, I figured I'd go the other route and point out your inability to understand basic computer terms. Your hard drive is your computer's storage, the memory is contained within your RAM(and little bits of ROM chips here and there). The memory on your computer gets wiped every single time you reboot it, it's not a big deal and is quite normal and pretty much essential to your computer properly functioning at all. If the memory didn't get wiped you'd have to put additional RAM chips into your PC nonstop, it would be quite insane.

..Ultrajoe changed his for halloween, out of nothing more than boredom, and you might be able to out of necessity. Though understandable with the avatar recognition.

Fixed, methinks.

Sucks about iBeat, I did a quick google and deviantart search for it but nowt came up ;/ I had so hoped I would swoop in and save the day like an angel descending from the heavens.

Or something. Hope you find it again.

Rather than attempt to empathize with you, which I don't, I figured I'd go the other route and be really anal about something which isn't important.
That's two-for-one fixed's! I'm so generous today.

When your hard drive is full and you need more space, head on down to Office Max and tell them you need more memory. Once you get home with your new memory and get it installed tell me the difference between memory and storage isn't important again.

@ Amnestic - some of us had lots of free time as kids. While other kids were in English class, I was up in the "unstable kids" room playing pokémon or bypassing the laughable proxy software on the school computers. The irony is I'm still better at English than my so-called "peers" of the time.

The point being some of us liked to (in later generations) find the ideal pokémon - including abilities and so on - breed them into the ultimate level three newborn, then EV-grind them on a specific type of wild pokémon. Most casual players aren't even aware of the EV point aspect of the pokémon games...

While I applaud your slightly disturbing enthusiasm, understand that the vast majority of level 100 rare pokémon you see floating around the online 'scene' these days will have been cheated for. You can cheat to pretty much tailor any pokémon to your desired specs these days, so even if you spend all that time breeding, rest easy in the knowledge someone with a set of AR codes and the method of application can get the same result in half an hour ;D

And if I actually thought Memory=Storage you'd have a point, that's not the issue here. What is the issue is that you picked up on something that was mentioned in passing, more likely out of accidental misuse of a term rather than general ignorance, and had to ***** about it needlessly.

How about we just agree to disagree. I make no bones about what I am, I sometimes enjoy being a dick just to be a dick. You, however, try to mask your being a dick with a facade of being a defender of other users, a hero who stands tall to knock guys like me off our high horses.

That's your bag, more power to you. I'll continue to be openly dickish and sometimes act like a smug and condescending prick without provocation, then you can jump in and act exactly the same way and go to bed feeling all warm and fuzzy because you're not a dick, you're a champion of the forum!

Well, sure, but I had a lot of free time in school and a gameboy. Same applies now, but with an emulator. Which I only use to play games I physically own. *cough*
